Irvine's 5th High School

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
notTHEOC...again, the issue is not if, it's when.  Without GP/PP, the timeline can be pushed back to 2017 or maybe 2018.  This gives IUSD more time to deal with the 5th HS.

Additionally, they would not have to build the schools in GP.  They can locate the high school elsewhere.  The IUSD board chair expressed concerns that they have go through a similar process each time that they have to put a school in GP and that it may not be worth the headache.

Finally, the IUSD article mentioned that they are going to talk to TIC about obtaining land to build the 5th HS.  That discussion will likely go more smoothly if the argument is that the HS will mostly serve TIC properties.

TIC has plenty of open land in Cypress Village East perfect for a high school.

If IUSD doesn't start construction by AUG, Irvine will suffer overcrowding, and lose $20million dollars that they already spent preparing site "A".  But it's ok Irvine's got money to burn.

Irvine should start saving money by selling the GP Balloon. It cost $5M to purchase and ~$380K/year to operate. That number didn't include the initial cost for installation and previous multi-year operating deficits when it was "free."

Two different entities between IUSD and city of Irvine.

But I agree...the balloon was incredibly stupid.  I want to stab something everytime I see describe the balloon as "iconic," "incredible," or some other insane hyperbole.  Maybe they're talking about its status as a symbol of pointless spending.

The City of Irvine directly contributes to the school system. Measure BB passed in November 2012, allows for additional funding from the city ~$4M/year through FY 2014-15 according to the Irvine budget.

then Cypress Village will be premium priced.  all K-12 is within walkable distance + Parks

Except traffic is going to insanely bad around there in the morning.

They should have better school bus service in Irvine. I bet that would cut down on the amount of surface street traffic by an enormous amount in the AM and afternoons if parents didn't have to drive around picking up/dropping off kids.

You presume that Irvine parents would allow their kids to ride school buses.

I like that the city at least attempted to do something unique. Maybe they could have come up with a better idea. But it's hard to be more than just a good city if it's only about schools, safety and cleanliness.

Instead of a Great Park, Irvine is left with a boondoggle. Larry Agran and company wasted millions of dollars on no bid contracts, consultants, and designers. The public is left with a shell of a park and more tract homes.

Irvine commuter just hates PP because she didn't buy there. Easy for her to say to give the kids up to sbusd because she feels like its so far away from woodbury town center.

Eventually they will need to build this 5th high school.  Got many years to wait for that. ;)

1)  I am a he

2)  I don't hate PP.  I have posted many times about things I like about PP.  I just like Stonegate more...for the price range I am at.  I would be in PP if I was buying above $1 million.

3)  I didn't come up with the idea of letting PP/GP go to SVUSD...an IUSD board member did.

4)  I am fine with going to a 5th HS...it's just very far from most of the areas where the HS is supposed to serve.

Also, pp kids are going to an isud k-8 school and then to Svusd?  To someone's  point that wouldn't make any sense.
