Congratulation! success stories like this are just too far rare. There are those who never even attended colleges are incredible and smart people too. I could think of of several who could be my English tutor.

Sorry, I am Chinese.

These are a must:

Degree from a top college, LV hand bags, BMW, Lexus or and Mercedes, Irvine address, Music lessons for my kid and suitcaseful of cash.

So you'd be disappointed with my bro-in-law when he was accepted to IVC.

...

But then graduated Hastings and passed the bar just a few years later.

Brilliant.

Not to disrespect law. Law is a non technical field and there is no threat to life and safety like other majors such as medicine, structural engineering, architecture, civil engineering and etc. You can study law at the best schools or school for profit like University of Phoenix for example. Have you seen those schools for profit offer courses like Interior decorating, criminal justice, CSI, psychology, business management and law. You can go study law regardless of what undergraduate degree you already have or lack of. In this society we need non proficient lawyers too. 50% of all cases need losers. Hasting at #54 out of 146 is not exactly stellar.

Ok you are right I am sour. I made a sacrifice to live in a tiny cramp place. I can't even host one party to invite all my relatives and having to do several. It is embarrassing to do it at a multi purpose room and share the facility with neighbors. Endless waiting in line for same mediocre food. I pay more at Target and Costco compared to my relatives from Fountain Valley. I am losing my patience behind Darthvader drivers. I am tired of my neighbors' farting habit in their bathrooms. I am tired of paying more for everything. I am tired of Mello Roos. I want to skip my HOAs. I am tired of hearing my neighbors bickering in their homes. I am tired of local traffic. I am tried of never ending construction. I am tired driving up the wrong driveways. I am tired my mother still can't find my house. I am tired of my guests ask where is my living room. I am tired my furniture and TV are sticky from the kitchen grease. I am tired the the landscapers blower at 7am. I am tired people always park in front of my house. I am tired keeping up with the Wangs. I am tired my daughter could not keep up with the school competitions. I have nightmare of IVC, Cal State and UC schools. Irvine is all about the good schools!

Wait. So which is better?  Don't need to get sour bc your daughter didn't get into an ivy.  Listen to the majority on this forum. Ivy is not end all be all. In fact, some prefer their kids not to go to an ivy. Consider yourself lucky she didn't get in.

I don't (and can't) read all your posts. My English isn't good enough to get through all of it but from all your education posts about your daughter's college process - I detect sourness that she didn't get into an ivy.  But maybe I'm reading into it incorrectly.

Let me restate this. I was disappointed that how good Irvine schools are and years of reading Irvine blogs "so and so went and graduated from Ivy".  I thought hundreds of kids will get to attend Ivy yearly. That was my perception. So what is all the fuzz about top high schools when Cal State University destination is the norm?

I am not feeling soured like you claimed. She was rejected from the 3 she applied to: Harvard, Yale and Columbia. She will be attending a good school ,her top choice, a school with a smaller population.

Not sure but I don't recall anyone claiming that Irvine schools will lead into acceptance to Ivies.

But that might have been before I joined the IHB.

Irvinehomeshopper..

General speaking once you are in a high school where you have more Asian students than white students like Uni and Northwood..... the competitive school environment becomes unhealthy and your chances to get into an Ivy goes down while parents work overtime and have no time to spend with their kids. It is a lose/lose situation for both parents and kids.

I think what is more important is to discover your kids natural gifts and talents and support them, love them, and encourage them as parents to become their full potential as adults. Perhaps I am not into this whole status thing.. and don't really care if my children get into an Ivy or not.. but do care they become productive successful adults and I would be part of their lives. Life doesn't end once you get into the Ivy, it is just the beginning.

So Irvine parents brag as much as you want how great the high schools are while your kids are still attending. Not so fun when they ended up at a Cal State University. I just came to realize that is a Chinese thing all along. pricy gears but can't hit a ball or fancy sports car but driving snail speed. Great high school but so so college. I guess the moral of this long thread is money can buy fancy gears, fancy sports car and top rated high schools but top college acceptance is not for sale.

I'll admit that I only skimmed this thread but not sure what real conclusion you can draw from Beckman college acceptances versus IUSD acceptances based on the data IHS posted.  The data is pretty lacking in terms of being able to analyze much of anything.

#1 - you are a freaking idiot if you buy a house in irvine thinking IUSD alone gets your kid into a top college.
#2 - you are an even bigger idiot if you now think tusd accomplishes that instead.

So you are #1 above. Except you may or may not live within IUSD boundaries yet still chose to send your kid to an IUSD school. You are #3 - an even bigger idiot than #1 and 2 above.

I planned this goal a long time ago.

Buy in Irvine for the best schools. Send kid to the top college. Pick a career that makes a lot of money. With money then buy a lot of LV bags, drive fancy car and buy oversized $4m McMansion in Irvine.

Live happily after

PS. Eat 85 Celsius pastries.

My best friend went to Harvard and now interviews Harvard applicants on his weekends. I will tell that we connect at a deep level as friends but we are very very different in our thinking. :) I am actually trying to convince him to investment in real estate but he is so scared lol. At the same time he can ace any scan tron exam you give him.

You guys have to give IHS a lot of credit for this thread. If you don't understand what he is trying to say... YOU ARE AN IDIOT AND HOPELESS! I used to be one of those idiots posting on IHB in 2010, until Irvine Home Shopper took a bat and knocked some sense into me. This guy saved me from making the biggest mistake of my life.

True that

So "IHO knock-off" allow me to tell you a little bit regarding the places I lived at and the year I moved there. Obviously, you need a lot more help than I thought.

1976 Monterey Park
1979 Rowland Heights
1980 Diamond Bar
1982 Chino Hills
1984 Irvine
1986 Cypress
1992 Foothill Ranch
2000 undisclosed
2005 undisclosed
2013 undisclosed

See what kind of conclusion can you draw?

This game assumes I give two shits about your life story (I don't) but I do care about your daughter so I will play your game a different way:

2000 undisclosed aka not irvine but continued to send daughter to IUSD school believing IUSD = ivy.
2005 undisclosed aka not irvine but still continued to send daughter to IUSD school thereby continuing to fail her. Just think: if not for your failure, she could be going to harvard, Yale or Columbia this fall. Isn't that really the gist of all your IUSD rants on this forum?

Feeling buyer remorse knowing you kid will likely be going to a Cal State Univ?
