And this is why it's a "social shift" when Apple changes things even if they have been done before.

Not one Android phone sees these kind of lines or pre-orders... not one.

Because people with Iphones are locked into one manufacturer.

My friend who has a samsung phone with android is changing to an Iphone 6 in OCT.  His reason is because the samsung + android has more bugs and freezes a lot more than Apples product.  So according to him, Apple makes a tighter device.

Not really.  The cause for freeze-up is usually because of apps, which Apple has sandbox control.  Android phones also allow for external memory cards and flash, which create problems.

I can also open up a Samsung phone if I want to change parts or make repairs.

Also...perception is not reality.

I got 1 of my  2 phones. I didn't realize it until the UPS guy rang my doorbell that Verizon is using two different delivery companies for my order.

@IC:

So if the problem is the apps because Apple has more control over what the developers put in the App Store, that still means that Android is more prone to app crashes.

Not sure what is the point you are trying to make here.

My friend sells samsung, HTC, and all types of other phones.  This time he finally relented and will be getting the iphon6plus.  His wife has an Iphone5.

With Samsung phones running Google's android, one can reasonably assume more bugs in this setup relative to the iphone & IOS.

Does that mean...

Most people in line were foreign, mostly from Asian countries where they'll buy an iphone6 for $700 and go home to sell it for $2500 since it's not readily available in some international countries for months.

Really enticing to buy 10 of these and go sell them in a foreign country - that could pay for my vacation :)

I'm at a Best Buy and they are pretty nice. The Plus is huge but the thinness makes it seem less so.

The 4.7 is a good form factor if you don't want an overly large phone, smaller than the GS4 and GS5. The engineering is typical Apple, clean lines and this design is almost unibody like the iPad mini.

So many people buying 6 cases here.

It's interesting watching people pull out their current phones to compare them to the ones the BB staff guy is holding.

They currently only have the 128gb gold (ps9!!!) for AT&T and a few for VZW.

Almost every person in the mobile phone area is looking for the 6 or the 6 accessories. I bet the Apple stores are even crazier.

My little review:

iPhone 6 Plus - 64GB
*Size: It's very manageable, and as mentioned above its thinness makes it very easy to handle for a guy with large hands like myself.
*Battery Life: It's the Best experience I've had so far with smart phones and full charge longevity.
*IOS 8: Where has it been all my life?  I can now say that IOS is very competitive compared to customized Androids.
*Screen: The image quality is top notch and it provides the experience iPhone users always wanted.  I tried Google map on it today and AWESOME!
*Camera: Much better than 5S, and HDR now takes a fraction of a second.  I love the time-lapse video.  My Dog and Cat chasing each other in time-lapse is pricelessly funny.

-I don't like that it gets too hot too quickly.
-I don't like that the power button has moved from top to side.
-One drop without a case means much higher chances of screen damage compared to previous Gen iPhones.
-Don't like the attention it gets (It'll wear off soon enough).  Several Asian girls have stopped me to see the phone.  Single guys take note.  #WOWitsSoBig #ThatsWhatSheSaid  8)

I love the phone, and my wife loves the 5S she inherited from me.  ;)

Yet if Android owns more of the smartphone market, doesn't the math say you will get some type of line for at least the manufacturer with the higher market share... Samsung?

Say Samsung's Galaxy S line is 1/4 of the total Android market (which is low) and that's equivalent to at least 1/4th the numbers of Apple's ownership (lower even more).

Have you ever even seen a quarter of line for any Galaxy S release? A tenth?

Let's talk resale value... my old iPhone 4 which is over 4 years old is worth $75 straight up from Best Buy ($200 if I trade in for a 6 at Best Buy), do you know of any 4-year old Android phone worth that much? I bet my 4-year old iPhone 4 is worth more than your 2 year old S4.

All these things when you put them together is how Apple is still able to influence the mobile market despite being over 2 years behind on some technologies.

What I find funny is that when Apple does something before anyone else, everyone says it's gimmicky... but when Apple does something after everyone else, they are "behind" or "copycats".

I can wait, gonna hold off on iOS 8 as well
Why are you holding off? Is there something wrong with iOS 8?
Hate cases, full frontal is the way it should be
I think for this one you may want to rethink... with glass curving around the front edge, it's probably going to crack easier... plus it will even out the camera bump. :)

20 LTE bands? Who cares?

If a call comes in while you're using the Verizon iPhone as a hotspot, everything stops. So much for 20 LTE bands.

Fix that first by adding a cheap second radio the way every other phone does on Verizon.

They didn't even mention fixing that yesterday so it's probably still broken.
I thought iPhones had 2 antennae so you can still use data while on a call.

I remember seeing a commercial for that.

No. It's still a problem even on the 5s on Sprint and Verizon.
http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/13/3328492/iphone-5-simultaneous-voice-data-verizon-sprint

Looks like if you use VoLTE on iPhone 6 you can finally talk and text simultaneously.

Yep, looks like VZW rolled out VoLTE so the 20 LTE bands do matter:
Verizon turned on its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) service around the same time as the iPhone became available, and I immediately turned it on. It?s in the iPhone settings under Cellular, and you set ?Enable LTE? to "Voice and Data" to activate it.

This enables voice calls over LTE, and that lets Verizon customers enjoy what those with other carriers have for years. It lets users surf the web while on a call, something Verizon and Sprint customers have been unable to do before this service was activated. Having experienced it on my Verizon iPhone 6 Plus I can see what I've been missing. It's worked flawlessly on the iPhone.

This will be a big feature for business users. The ability to check the corporate web while on a business call is very handy.
