Homeless camps coming to Irvine

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Irvine was known for a few things:

-Low crime (gone)
-Beautiful spaces (gone)
-High home prices (gone)

At least the homeless won't be able to bring down test scores?

This is crazy. Lets ask cadence park sales office these questions tomorrow.

Not good timing, they could have delayed the opening by blaming the bad weather.

I noticed there are multiple homeless threads on TI.
Yeah, first on Next Door, now here, Irvinians unite!

We don't want this to happen:

Craaazy!

I do not think so.  The recent price increase in Baker Ranch and other neighborhoods are benefiting significantly from the housing price increase in Irvine. If Irvine hourse price is dropping, it will impact the communities around.  Tent City is not only about Homeless people living in great park,  it is about drugs, crime, gang, higher crime in the whole area.  It is much worse than what you would expect, if you know any one who went to homeless tent or who live in orange/Santa Ana where those homeless people were, they will tell you, OH, NO, that's really really bad news to the whole area. The Crime goes up, the housing price goes down, more important and the most important, we expose our kids and elders into danger

Baker Ranch is looking better and better every day.

Baker Ranch, Parkside, and Iron Ridge prices will be going up 10% soon.

Where's Mike "Parkside Lexington" ?? The man is probably on cloud 9.

Ready2Downsize is sittin' real happy now and probably telling herself: "Suckas!!!!!!"

Mike "Parkside Lexington" is already a happy camper. They are selling the models at that development. The entire community should be built and sold out by June/July.

One of the Sups who proposed Irvine as a location for this homeless shelter brought up a few interesting tidbits during a recent John and Ken program:

1) The proposed site was at one point in time zoned as a homeless facility. (verified?)

B) The Sups had offered to build commercial there but Irvine said no (revealing part of the motive to push the Irvine site IMHO)

III) If the County begins enforcing vagrancy laws WITHOUT an alternative site to house the homeless, the Feds will sue. IF the County has an alternative AND if the homeless refuse to go to it, the County can enforce vagrancy laws. So the logic, per the Sup, was that they need the Irvine site so that they can get the refusals, and then push the homeless to other areas.

Me: "It's a bold strategy Cotton... Let's see if it pays off for em"

Where would they send the homeless in the Sup's scenario? Across County Lines? Jail? Nothing but crickets from that question.

There is conclusive proof and studies that have already shown... providing housing to the homeless WILL save money versus the costs being spent on the homeless for emergency services with ambulance, fire truck, hospitals along with the costs of incarcerating them in prisons, the staff needed to run them, pension costs, etc.etc.

All this was outlined in the senators proposed legislation.

?HOMELESSNESS IS THE MORAL ISSUE OF OUR TIME. WE ARE NOT HERE TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS? OR MANAGE HOMELESSNESS...OR REDUCE HOMELESSNESS? WE ARE HERE TO END HOMELESSNESS ONCE AND FOR ALL?
-Mayor Eric Garcetti

I applaud you Mr. Garcetti.

If this problem is not addressed, there can be a hepatitis outbreak.

?Homeless people defecating on LA streets fuels horror hepatitis outbreak, as city faulted

An outbreak of hepatitis A is spreading through Los Angeles County after leaping from a large homeless contingent in San Diego, threatening thousands of people and fueling criticism that local officials have not done enough to contain the deadly liver disease.?

If you have a chance read the article. Mind blowing.

Cause of Skirball fire was ?illegal cooking? in homeless camp, LAFD says

An illegal cooking fire at a homeless encampment was determined to be the cause of the Skirball fire, which began last week, authorities said Tuesday.

The fire was sparked just before 5 a.m. Dec. 6 in a brush area adjacent to where Sepulveda Boulevard crosses under the 405 Freeway, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The LAFD?s Arson-County-Terrorism Section investigated the fire and the results were released via email Tuesday afternoon.

?At the time of the LAFD?s arrival there were no individuals present at the area of origin,? LAFD spokesman Peter Sanders said in the release.

No arrests have been made in connection to the blaze.

The Skirball fire has burned 422 acres, destroyed six homes and damaged 12 others in the Bel-Air community.?

My comment: Think about this scenario can happen anywhere. If they don?t have a place to stay and eat. They might go anywhere.
