Man you just got on and want cliff notes already?

I meant, a brief about yesterday's meeting. What did County CEO Frank Kim say yesterday? Any site evaluation results from him?  Thank you.

I've got a great idea!  Lets have a city with really high walls and gates, and have the police run all the poor and brown people out of town.

Then we won't have to build any affordable housing, nor any homeless shelters.

That's an unreasonable suggestion unless you get rid of all of the chain retail stores. People in Irvine wouldn't know what to do without Costco or Target or Mcdonald's or places to use their coupons.

Looks like Cemetery and Homeless Shelter are a possible "one-two" punch to values, unless you get a teachers strike and IUSD hires a bunch of scabs who aint gonna educate gooder. At that point, you're really screwed.

PS - This argument isn't a "for or against helping the down and outers". The argument boils down to this basic question: Why locate a shelter in a densely populated planned community when there are literally hundreds of empty and useable acres the County has elsewhere to properly build and service a shelter?

It comes down to generating heats. What get more attentions will get more benefits out comes. They do know darn well that its mission impossible. But without squeaking wheels, and noises, there would be no cause.

At this point, I see it a shot in dark. I can and welcome the cemetery, but the homeless is where I draw the line. Its the exact reason, why I live in Irvine, is to not have those around me. I will be glad to donate whatever to keep them out. I bet that is what they wanted to hear all along.

So are you okay with the city issuing a $40 mil check for the cemetery? I hope it's not going to be like the consulting fees used for GP.

Agree . Building a homeless shelter in a city where there are no homeless people is a slap in the face to local taxpayers .  This is not a problem we need to solve in Irvine.

I think Irvine residents need to take a page from these Obamacare repeal town halls and make life really bad for local politicians.

I also think these politicians think they can get away with it because they believe a high percentage of Irvine residents are keep-to-themselves , docile immigrants.

For that matter Orange County also includes Newport Beach and Corona DelMar - how about trying to build a homeless shelter there and then see the reaction from those extremely vocal and well connected residents  ?

While I don't live anywhere close to the great park neighborhood , this is the time for all of Irvine residents to show solidarity regardless of where they live and kick these politicians' butts.

The Santa Ana river trail by Anaheim Stadium is owned by whom?  Is it the feds or Orange County or the city of Orange?  Why do the authorities allow them to camp there?  Shouldn't whoever owns that property be kicking them out for trespassing?

And if they are kicked out where would they go?

The property values around that area are probably tanking due to the increase in tents in the past 2 years.

I think this article says it's maintained by the county.

The tent city property is owned by Orange County which means this homeless problem is owned by all cities inside OC.

If the overlords of Orange County decide that Irvine will have the next homeless shelter, then that's where it's going.  However, I'm sure money talks, and the next shelter will be put in the cheapest area available.  GP is not a cheap area.

When I was looking at the OC Supervisors agenda for 5/23/17 there was a link to a $600,000 signed contract dated in April 2017 for temporary short term housing. The contract was between the County of Orange and a vendor that had the name "Irvine" in it, yet the vendor's address was located in Santa Ana. I didn't think of downloading that document because now I can't find it. The link is gone. What I did find were two documents I've attached.

Being that the vendor had the name Irvine in it, I wonder if the shelter will be going to the Great Park. Guess we'll find out on 7/1/2017 when the contract begins.

I am surprised at the lack of organization and protest around this issue. Is it just TI, that does not have a method of organizing? Is there a better place to get with people who want to oppose this? I am thinking about starting a walk in my neighborhood just to spread awareness about this proposal.

They got other stuff to do. Plain and simple the Pavilions market opening is more exciting than this.

we are just fake tough guys/gals behind keyboards here on TI.  You'll have to take it to the mean streets of Woodbury Town Center to get your message out.

Before we start this protest, can we band together in protest towards our HOA to clean the damn community bbq grills in a timely manner?
