Friday Boredom - Your Pet Peeves

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Pet peeve:

When I didn't think of it first.  :(

"Woman robs bank using two cans of spaghetti sauce she claimed was a bomb"

Personalized each charger and corresponding laptop with owner's initial, and still they ask "mom, why isn't it charging?"- using wrong charger again!

Dated lyrics. Taylor Swift wants to "burn burn burn.. just another picture to burn" and wants teens today to understand the meaning.. Do the kids that grew up with her have any pictures to burn? unless they meant burn it on a CD.. or a hard drive.. shouldn't it be just another picture to delete? :-)

People who take the elevator multiple times every day... for a destination on the 2nd floor.

Maybe I can understand taking it up... but down? Really... how hard is it to walk down one flight of steps?

(and these people are young and fit looking)

People take elevators at the gym all the time.. for one floor. Most of them are buff :)

Guess the bad continues.
Don't ask others how much they earn if you are not familiar with their career choice. Ask what kind of work they do. That's a better way of engaging in a conversation.

Yea, and remember, it's a conversation, not an interrogation.  ::)

Not sure if it's a cultural thing where certain people feel it's perfectly normal to ask others about how much they make.  Probably just some people who are not as skilled in conversation as others.  I would just smile and answer "not enough", cause you know, we're all underpaid and overworked.  ???

Good one :)
Unfortunately I belong to one of those cultures where acquaintances ask questions that family doesn't. Will you try for a boy? Will you buy a bigger house? How much do you earn? Is your fied any good? Why are you not in IT? Sheesh!

Pet Peeve: When you have a workman at your house and he asks to use the restroom.

I say: "Sure."

And he says: "Don't worry. It's only #1. Not #2."

Mister, I don't wanna know WHAT number it is! Don't give me details.  :'( Just do whatever it is you gotta do. Let's not have this conversation, please.

I was just about to ask if the interrogator is from a different country. An American girl is unlikely to ask you how much you make. That's so rude. Maybe respond with: "What do you weigh?" or "Not a lot but enough" or "I'm down to my last dollar. Will you pick up lunch?" - Just kidding.

Is this type of questioning common in that country? Just curious because recently I was waiting outside my boy's classroom to pick him up and there was this other kid's dad waiting, too. (He is from the same area.) We started making chit-chat. I mentioned that I wrote some copy which I recently sold for a surprisingly good price although I never really expected it to. Right away, he asked me, "How much did you make?" I was kind of stunned. I just put my fingers to my lips, "zipped them up" like a zipper, and shook my head. Luckily he took the hint!

Boy... girl... what difference does it make? Americans will ask that one, too. I just reply, "I won't have more kids than I have hands." They know I have 2 kids so they usually just laugh and that puts an end to it.

"Why are you not in IT?" - This lady needs to get a life. Start rapid-fire questioning her.  :P

I love that reply- 2 hands, 2 kids :) If you have two of a kind, they want to know if you are having another one to try for the other gender. If yes, when? If not, why?
The lady got what she deserved. She was laid off a couple of months ago. I asked her if she got a job, or she was on UE benefits fully knowing she didn't qualify for UE.

Aww. Sorry to see. It must be so frustrating dealing with that mentality. Why are they asking? Do you think they are asking just to make conversation or are they asking because they want to compare your/my life with theirs? Sometimes I get the feeling they want to compare like it's a big competition. I like to ask people about their lives, too, because it's part of making conversation - it's good to look like you care about them instead of only talking about ourselves endlessly which can be really rude, too. For me, it's never a competition. It's fun to talk to people about what they do but I don't get jealous if they tell me how much they make or care if they don't make very much. Very rarely would I ask someone what they make unless I had a point in asking like if I knew of a job opening that is offering more or a way to help them. It's one thing to make it a conversation i.e. "Do you like your job? Mine is just meh - okay." vs. "How much did you make last year?" That is crazy rude! If it's a competition thing, I don't think you should give those people a number. I think any amount higher than theirs will instigate jealousy. Any amount lower and they are liable to look down their nose.

Pet Peeve: When you're making tacos for dinner and this happens. And no. The missing piece was not inside my box.

Iho, did you get a night job at the taco shell factory?
