FCBs are real!

do people actually think FCBs are NOT real?

happens routinely I thought?

the NYC condo story is a bit ridiculous though and I doubt the lady's 2 year old is the only factor.

plenty of people have been buying ridiculously priced properties in NYC (and then leaving them empty) for quite awhile now...

FCB is not just a Irvine or even USA thing.  It is global.  Chinese are buying a lot of real estate (and other things) everywhere.

According to the article, anyone can buy permanent residency for $500,000-$1,000,000 if they create 5-10 jobs.
So that's why all these mom&pops are all over Irvine (in the non-TIC centers).

I feel vindicated too:

For what the Lu-Meng family paid for their Irvine house, they?d get a home half as big in Beijing ? most likely in a high-rise building without any land.

Their current home in north Beijing -- purchased 12 years ago -- is a three-level townhome, with a rooftop garden. It has about the same amount of space as their Irvine house, but is worth twice as much.

Hence places like Irvine will always have FCB looking to buy.

I've even seen real estate shopping tour buses full of rich FCB ready to plunk down $$$.

Prices in Irvine will continue to increase despite whatever happens with the economy.

This story is so ridiculous on so many levels.  I would almost understand if they wanted him to further his education and become a doctor and hope for residency status for a U.C.  But to play in the NBA as a 5'10" 14 y/o?!  That's just dumb.  All that parent money and almost a 100% chance of failure in achieving his dream...I see drug rehab in his future.

+1

I hope they enjoy their home and living in Irvine but this kid is not a future LeBron James. They better start making other plans for his future.

I think the key take away here is that they moved their son here where he can actually pursue his dreams.  Many Americans now lose sight of that or take it for granted.

I'm supportive of pursuing the 'American Dream' but this story doesn't engender sympathy or inspiration. Parents buy their way into the US and drop $1M+ for an overpriced Irvine stucco box so son can become an NBA baller. Sounds more like a life of privilege.

I don't think we got the full scoop from the article.  Are they all in just for basketball?  Perhaps he does well academically too.

If the Chinese government posts the pictures of the economic fugitives, perhaps we'll find some at Diamond Jamboree.  The only problem is...Chinese all look the same to me, so I can't help in this "fox hunt".

Yo, you all are just jealous of their new money.  So am I.  But WTH, i'm selling my home soonish, and I hope one of these FCB scoops up my Irvine home for a record high sales price.
