Actually, they aren't EVERYWHERE in Irvine.



That was one of the things I noticed when I first visited here... that they didn't have a lot of overhead power poles. The main lines run down certain areas (like Harvard, Jeffrey and along the 405/5) but most of Irvine's power lines are underground (hence the huge amount of "Don't dig until you call Edison" signs).



Go to the LA suburbs... that's where power lines are EVERYWHERE.

WOW! What are the chances the final product will look anything like that? Or be finished before 2020?

They didn't start routinely burying the lower voltage lines that just send the power to the individual users until the 1960's or so. Areas that were developed before then have above ground power lines all over the place; areas developed after that have those lines underground. Irvine was built after that time period; LA county mostly before.
