Do a search here for "toxic waste".

And if you're too lazy to do that, try this thread.

That's El Toro in Irvine not Tustin.

My bad. There's so many toxic plumes under the spots of Irvine that are undeveloped because they were formerly millitary bases I get confused.

I think that the folks who sit on this blog all day to complain about the toxic plumes at Columbus Square should go get a life. I think that Columbus Square has some very nice homes in a very quiet neighborhood. I've been there and know how quiet it is. As for the homeless shelter, I have never seen any transient wandering around the area.

However, I do think Columbus Square is a crappy location. It's a nice little neighborhood in the midst of a barren base. It's not within walking distance to anything of interest. I do feel bad for the residents who bought there - unless they're the types who simply come home each day after work and lock themselves in their home. The area surrounded by Redhill, Edinger, Kensington, and Valencia has nothing but those homes.

There should definitely be a significant discount for the location disparity at Columbus Square. On the other hand, I still think Columbus Grove is ideal.

Is Columbus Grove the one next to the trash processing facility?

Searching the forum, it was debated whether or not it was a cement factory or a recycling center or a trash processing facility.

reason said: "I thought it was just a cement factory. But someone else also said it?s a waste collection place near Warner."

Hope that helps. :)

Here's a refresher on the history of the land VoC is built on, it has always been used for housing, unless people were dumping toxic waste in their backyard.

El Toro on the other hand, is a toxic waste dump, no doubt about that.

The answer is both.

Waste Management has a trash collection facility within what is known as Construction Circle just south of Warner. I think it's actually a recycling center but it smells like trash... badly... I've personally been there myself inquiring about recycling electronic equipment.

There is also a cement "factory" that is very noisy during the day (think "ka-chunk-ka-chunk" sounds).

If you drive down Warner from Westpark towards the District... you can hear... and smell... what I'm talking about.

If you were thinking about buying in CS but didn't because it's barren now, you will be kicking yourself in a few years time.

Do you have a key with this map? Where does the mile long park run?

It runs diagonally across the whole site, just south of the regional park.

I said that (somewhat) tongue-in-cheek. There is a trash processing facility there. I have a storage unit at Jamboree and Warner, and the grime that covers everything is pretty bad. Actually disgusts me a little, and that's just my stored "crap". I can't imagine living there, but I like to have my windows open a lot - some people probably don't mind.

Couldn't the same be said for virtually all of Irvine? There are a few exceptions, granted, but very few people are really walking distance to a restaurant or venue of interest. If you want to go someplace, lets face it: its a driving town.

A lot of negative things that are said about columbus grove/square can be said for a lot of other parts of irvine - not sure why these two places get trashed so badly, but they do. Its like people forget Westpark is right across the street from Columbus Grove. That the railroad doesnt cross through a bunch of other neighborhoods. Or the powerlines - how the hell do you think you turn your lights on? The power lines are everywhere. We are probably all going to get cancer from our damn cell phones and microwaves before any of the negative things said about Grove/Square impact you.

Anyone have any idea about what they're going to put in the "orange county urban regional park" ? I've heard they are going to leave this hangar, but what kind of park?
