@ Woodbury owner - you mean the illegals who cut your grass and clean your house who you probably try to nickel and dime? The agreement that exists with Mexicans is they do all the shorty jobs that no one else wants to do, we pay them very little and when they need medical care will provide that. In exchange you get all your fruits and veggies at a low price, you can get your house cleaned and grass cut for a reasonable price, etc. sounds like a win win for everyone.

I've had both Mexican and Korean gardeners.  The Mexican one was a little cheaper ($15 a month), but didn't do anything except blow some leaves here and there.  I then tried out a Korean one and I couldn't believe the difference in quality.  I'm paying $15 more per month, but my landscape has never looked better.

For house cleaning, I tried an eastern euro and Mexican one.  Prices were the same, but the Mexican one (current) works so much harder and takes pride in what she does (whenever I have a problem, she apologizes and fixes it).

For fruits and veggies, I just checked what I have and my Avocados are from Mexico, Bananas from Ecuador, Pineapple from Costa Rica, Strawberries from CA, and Peaches from CA.  All prices I paid were reasonable, but maybe the CA ones were picked by illegals.

By chance does your Korean gardener have a yelp page?

Boy do you have things twisted! When the Birth Tourism families from China falsify documents claiming financial need and apply for Medical the State of California pays the bill. Those funds come directly from the pockets of tax paying California residents, not Chinese citizens.

I think the percentage of people doing this is very low compared to the bulk of birth tourism people who pay full price for services and then, in turn, subsidize these the people falsifying financial need.  Remember, once these people give birth, they generally return to their home country.  Who knows if they will take advantage of the benefits 18 years later.

Now, the other type of immigrant (ie. the illegal) who come in the hundreds of thousands over the border DO take advantage of the benefits for years and years.  Just 1 benefit, 12k/year per child in public education adds up quick.  With limited resources, shouldn't the feds go after the VERY LOW hanging fruit?
Those birth tourism applied the medical benefit when labor here in the local hospital system, that along causes tens of thousands per labor that WILL come out from tax payer like us, get it?

Don't get me started on the strain on hospitals, and hospitals not getting reimbursed for the cost. Hospitals have closed due to this.

@Paris - any thoughts on this? (From a medical worker point of view)

Total tangent, but am curious about getting a housecleaner. Roughly how much do you pay (monthly or twice a month)?

If the birth tourism operators got a proper facility, with proper permits, licenses, and insurance, there'd be no problem. This shouldn't be a problem because Mainland Chinese seem to have enough extra cash to buy luxury goods at SCP so paying a little more to do it legally should be within their means.  The problem is these clowns are operating out of residential properties (apartments, Lambert Ranch, etc) where actual residents live.  The neighbors should not have to put up with this egregious breach of laws and common decency.

They can't do that because what they are doing is actually illegal.

Bottom line is, they they should not exist here at first place.

why not legalize birth tourism. monetize it. for example, the platinum package would cost half a million, including VIP access to hospitals, unlimited access to major attractions in LA/OC counties...etc

They already have that!  It's called a E-5 visa!

Also...priority medical access is already thing.

A powerful Japanese gang boss who received a liver transplant at UCLA Medical Center donated $100,000 to the Westwood hospital shortly after the surgery, The Times has learned.

A plaque dated November 2001 at the entryway to a seventh-floor surgery office reads, "In grateful recognition of the Goto Research Fund established through the generosity of Mr. Tadamasa Goto."

Or send the country an invoice. (Where did I hear that from?)  ;)

How many Chinese do you think are coming here for birth tourism purposes and then stiffing the medical bill (the ones that don't, most likely pay full un-subsidized rates)?  How many people cross the border from the south and have babies here and then don't pay the medical bill?  I can guarantee you one of these groups has a significant larger number of people.  Yes, both groups have people who don't pay and then the burden falls on tax payers like us, but wouldn't it make more sense to put resources on the group that is causing the most strain on our medical system?

Maybe they can approach Segerstrom and ask to lease the Wyndham SCP and change it to the SCP Birth Resort.  Much more luxurious than an apartment and has a pedestrian bridge over Bristol to SCP.

Focus on the issue discussed here.  Whether or not illegal immigrants utilize benefits or not is not part of this discussion.  And for a fact can you provide a concrete report indicating that one of the group utilize medical benefit outnumber the other?? and this concrete number is not just based on your assumption.

DHS states that 62% of the illegals immigrants are from Mexico and that 1% of illegal immigrants are from China.  Obviously, this does not mean there is a 1 to 1 correlation to the group that utilizes the medical benefit, but it should give you a good idea of which group is more of a strain on the medical system.

Any neighboring countries by land will cross over illegally over any others by boat or plane.  True for Europe and Asia as well.

You obviously neglect the fact most of the birth tourism come here legally but utilize the medical benefit illegally  :o and those are not counted into DHS statistics as illegal immigrants geez..

They can just walk over, it's so easy. I read or saw a news clip, that they are using drones to transport drugs into US.
