Villages of Columbus looks beautiful. Isn't that where you live? It reminds me of the back lot at Universal Studios where they created "Wisteria Lane" for Desperate Housewives. It's picture-perfect whenever I've driven through there.

i do live in the villages of columbus - columbus square in Tustin, just north of the district. the neighborhood is perfectly fine and relatively new (mostly built in 2006-2007 and then finished in 2011-2012). these guys like to give me grief cause of the disclosures you had to sign about the toxic land on the base and not being able to plant fruit trees, even though if you look at the map there is no TCE below columbus square. This is almost an identical setup to Pavilion Park, meaning PP is just north of the superfund site and has no TCE below it but PP doesnt have the disclosures columbus square did. William Lyon being conservative with the legal paperwork has caused folks here to criticize the neighborhood more than if there was no disclosure. Also, the proximity to santa ana.  The 1.5 mile buffer down edinger from where i live to the irvine border of harvard/irvine center drive must make the irvinites feel much safer then where i live as well :-)  Keep in mind this 1.5 miles literally takes a minute and a half to drive.

Drove over to the baker ranch site.. man.. passing that prison can't be a nice thing to tell your friends.  "So right when you pass the prison it will be on the right hand side"  wait Wuuuuuuuuuut???

LOL. True. I'm uncomfortable with how close it is to Baker Ranch. The only plus is it's actually a jail, not a prison. I've lived near a prison before, in Chino. You get annoying test sirens. Extremely loud. Very eerie. You won't get that noise disturbance living there by the jail.

Yeah, those are really nice!

I always drool over your clubhouse.

What about that neighborhood across from Irvine high school? The one with the missing letters on the sign at the entrance. Can't think  of what it's called. It's so run down.
Dang... SoCal just dissed The Willows. There are ganstas that live there.

Foothill Ranch is pretty awesome in the sense that you can leave your door, hike into Whiting Ranch and arrive here. Then, hike the three miles out and you are at your doorstep, literally.

At the end of the day, I continue to drink the kool aid of Irvine.  Irvine is an amazing place.  This is the reason why people from around the world go to live there.  I've talked to many people who move from huge homes in other states to go and live in a place the size of their old basement!  People don't downsize that much for nothing.

That's where the guy got ate by the lion...and the woman was dragged by her face while her friend played tug o war hanging on to her foot.

this has been posted a few times re: jail expansion over in the GP threads but probably most appropriate here in this thread.  we considered baker ranch as a potential until we saw its proximity to the jail.  having said that, I know the new GP high school will be really close as well, but for me, thats a 10+ year problem that I may or may not have to deal with - depending on if I still live @ PP.

You suppose to look other way when you see the jail.  ;)

So, the good news is that the homebuilders are putting up a wall (and trees) on Alton so that you won't see the jail or the fences when you drive up to BR.

And the BAD news is that they are also adding an entrance to the Musick facility on Alton.  You can even see the cutout on Alton where the entrance will be.  If they use that entrance to transport the occupants, you'll see a lot of "Orange County Sheriff's" buses with blacked out windows on your way to and from your BR home.

I would have thought they would try to put the wall up before the BR grand opening, but obviously that's not going to happen.

Major mistake. An unfinished wall before the grand opening?  That alienates 75% of this board.

Hey it could be motivation for kids:  "Do you want to ride the yellow bus or the Sheriff's bus with the blacked out windows?  Go do you homework!"

Has there been a survey yet asking...

"Would you

A) Want to live close to a medium security prison.

or

B) Want to live near a landfill and on top of a toxic plume?"

Personally I'm not afraid of either, but some kind of survey on the subject would an interesting read.

i think most people would vote they would rather live near a landfill and on top of toxic plume - these things are somewhat out of sight out of mind, any potential health effects of living here are down the road and may or may not be traced to the landfill/plume. There is plenty of cancer going around in areas that dont have landfills or toxic plume. People see the prison and think they will be the first victim of a potential escapee, they can see the prison everyday.

Which neighborhoods/villages fit option b?

Pavillion Park :-)

I will tell you, the one thing I don't really care for is that a couple times when I was driving down Irvine Blvd. between Alton & Bake, I'd see a jalopy -- at the light, the person would signal me & make a "roll down the window" sign. So I did and what do you think they asked me? "Hey, how do you know how I can get to the jail?" Nice. You're going to get the gang buddies from The Willows dropping by for visiting hours, I'm sure.

Edited for improvement.  :)
