NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
<p>There's a fair amount of interesting science fiction speculating on this. Brin's uplift wars of 20 years ago or so have humans increasing the intelligence of chimps and dolphins and orcas to sapient level, to increase status amount the aliens who've done the same thing who infest that imaginary universe. Keith Laumer had some interesting stuff which would make a great special effect sci fi movie, which has never been touched, where worlds are split and branch because of the change of slight probabilities, and humans have learned to cross the probability lines to worlds where several branches of primates all reached sapience.</p>

<p>I think the former is really doable, in less than 100 years, but we'd be stupid to do it. Heinlein had some stuff on this, too.</p>

i am proud i finally started a thread that made it deeper than three posts...but please what's all this to do with my start post ?? but then hold on... this is the IHB... it never stays on topic... i'm proud ;)

Adam,

I have no idea where you found that article, but current trends show that there are more women than men graduating from college. If this trend continues, we may have a future scenario where women are higher up in socio-economic ladder, while men are going to... salons to primp themselves for their sugar mama's. Might be a good idea to invest in businesses like "Metro for Men".

On the other hand, assuming that women still prefers to marry up or at least comparable level, men with college degrees will have less competition for a GF/Wife in the future.

Hmf, not being very P.C. here.

YAY! Free rent for a month .... 30 day moratorium on foreclosures. How will this help?

<a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080212/ap_on_bi_ge/mortgage_mess_rescue;_ylt=AkSrXT2s9ZFSINDDsjenn4Os0NUE">news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080212/ap_on_bi_ge/mortgage_mess_rescue;_ylt=AkSrXT2s9ZFSINDDsjenn4Os0NUE</a>

<p>I think it'll give people planning jingle mail an extra 30 days of free rent. Otherwise, here in Cali, it won't do squat. People don't want to keep their house if it isn't providing a third income. IMHO, in Cali, 95% of the people getting foreclosed aren't $200 short a month. The loan ARM adjusting up a point isn't busting them, they were busted before they even got in if you didn't have magic equity to refi and use to pay the bill and get a new teaser. </p>

<p>This is been gone over plenty of times. Too many homes were bought that could barely be afforded with the teaser rate on an option ARM. Without some of the magic loans we saw here's to the tune of $187 per month per $100,000 borrowed, they are not affording their home.</p>

<p>Ask yourself a simple question, say you bought a sub-3000sf home in Ladera Ranch in 2006 for $1M, what deal is the bank going to give you to make you not want to mail in the keys?</p>

<p>"...what deal is the bank going to give you to make you not want to mail in the keys?"</p>

<p>Is it possible for someone, let's say someone with no money down, to go to his bank and say "Yo! Since the current value of my house is 35% less in value than the price I purchased it 3 years ago, I am considering walking away, UNLESS you "re-sell" it to me for just above today's market price. And this time I'll put 20% down. Deal?"</p>

<p>You guys think the bank will go for for this?</p>

I like the idea, but not likely they'll have even 10% to put down. This is Kali, Major ! Might work in other parts of the country where houses aren't so high. Not sure if they'd legally be able to do such a thing, due to the language in the contract of the investors who bought the mortgage.
