Will the Great Park be Canceled? or just Delayed a while?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Does anyone have a CURRENT update on the Irvine "Soon to be WORLD FAMOUS" Great Park?? Wasn't Lennar suppose to sell a bunch of houses in that area and Finance Most of the Park? But these houses like there 1.6 Billion Dollar Central Park West Mess and most of there other Irvine Projust are all stuck with mostly ZERO revenue coming in ( except getting 40 cents on the dollar!). Also Doesn't Lenner also owe Irvine a TON of MONEY ?? To be a fly on the wall in those Irvine/Lennar Meetings. Cam someone please Update this situation.

It has been very quiet and likely will remain so until the marketplace conditions improve.

A few snippets of news trickled out last fall confirming Lennar wasn't doing jack squat.

SCHB

TIC is going to take it over. It's their destiny. Actually, i wouldn't be surprised if TIC's policy toward the great park was, do not touch even with 10 foot pole, due to the political mess that's become the true focus of the park.

Don't forget A-Town, that like a billion dollars as well.

I could see the Irvine Company taking the project over at some point. They will probably wait and position themselves as a "white knight" coming to the rescue of the City of Irvine. That way they can get all kinds of concessions. They will likely build more houses and less park...

IR,

I could also see them stuffing affordable housing on the the opposite side of any "park" so they can get the regulators off their back while creating a buffer to protect the Irvine image.

there was an article on one of the Irvine newspapers that said some of the first steps for the Great Park were starting to unfold. I think it was referring more to the public areas more so than any of the housing. From the article it looks like an overglorified soccer field.

Lennar's JVs, of which several massive ones are located in OC (Great Park, CPW, A-Town, I guess Heritage Fields), are finally under scrutiny.

The schadenfreud in my can't hardly wait to see what happens to this Co's holdings in the OC, specifically, Irvine's. Hopefully the fallout will be enough to enact some political change in this city council. We know CPW is on the block, TIC has to be talking about capturing the great park.

I think we can all agree that it was a great idea for Irvine to put taxpayer money into running that beautiful and necessary orange balloon in the Great Park. Money well spent.

sarcasm--off.

How many houses are they supposed to build before 2015 according to the regulators? I do not see how the City of Irvine can expect to make it (well they are obviously trying to fight the affordable housing numbers) when everyone is slowing construction. Seems like any slowdown on the Great Park would have a great effect on those numbers too.

You know the 1st thing TIC will do is erect a few more rental complexes in the park because we certainly don't have enough in North Irvine ;-)

Great...

Could have been a great airport w train access..

Instead it will be slum apartments for the poor

Maybe with a baloon ride someday..

Right 2000+ for a two bedroom apt is slum rent for the poor. My guess is they will build apartment/condo/townhomes that will be option to buy within three years.

I used to get email updates about the Great Park. Email search shows the last update I received was from Feb 8 talking about raising 500K for "the creation of a Preview Garden at the Orange County Great Park"

If they wanted to build an international airport, IMO they should have went south and looked for a coastal location, where planes can descend/ascend over non-populated areas, like a beach / ocean. Put in good rail access and maybe we'd see more trains running north-south to/from LA after 6pm.

The old El Toro AFB is toxic, and unless if they want to dig up all the soil and ship it elsewhere, the best thing to do with it is... a park and let nature do the clean-up for you. Hope they plant lots of deep-rooted trees.

i about fell out of my chair seeing that.

hint: Semper Fi

Gee Irvine dudes...

As I recall, no-one was ever talking about actually building an airport

THE FEDS FU#KN GAVE YOU AN AIRPORT ALREADY BUILT....

HUGE RUNWAYS, ADJACENT TO RAIL

for gods sakes, all you had to do was put in a civilian terminal and open it up.

YOU TORE IT UP

I REPEAT YOU TORE UP A PERFECTLY GOOD AIRPORT

FOR WHAT, BALLON RIDES

the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many....

we dont need another airport 7 miles away from John wayne.

People of OC voted "NO" on the airport so let it be.

That's thing that ticks me off about why we didn't go for an airport, the flight paths were already established due to the airforce base. At the time, planes wouldn't have descended over homes or taken off over homes.

Go south? You mean pendalton?
