LOL!!! Ok, that is funny as hell! Nice comeback, Troop! I've got nothing remotely comparable....

Trooper

I think they are my neighbors!!

You have to admit there needs to be some "diversity" in the world. ;-)

You have too much time on your hands and are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too creative to find those things.

The town is getting ready for a big all American 4th of July parade and celebration. Enjoyed the worlds oldest rodeo last night.

I will wear my blue jeans, white shirt, and redneck.............

Life is good.

Stay safe & have fun!

I spent time both in Tucson and in Phoenix. I like Sheriff Joe Arpio (sp?) also. He definitely makes prison/jail something that most people don't ever want to do again.... cleaning highways? How about chain gangs and rock breaking... in the desert.

Definitely old school.

good luck

<em>"Trooper, do you think that Cops shouldn?t have the right to carry concealed when they are off duty then?" </em>

25, that is an excellent question. I've pondered it for a bit and decided that yes, if there were <strong>no</strong> CCW's, I don't think a police officer should be able to carry either. Why would we be any better ? (Although, obviously trained better....so it was a toss up before I leaned more LEFT to make my decision).

I never carry off duty, unless I'm working a side job. I plan on being a good witness and not getting involved. I would have no vest, no backup and no radio to call for help....and if I'm in a gunfight, I want ALL my tools.

Well, the arguement for letting cops carry off duty would be that they are more likely to be targets. My cousin is on a gang unit, and he's unfortunately ran into people he's seen at his job when he was off duty, and he doesn't live near where he works either. Luckily everything worked out peacefully.

Trooper,

That is quite brave of you. I'm sure of course that you tend to avoid the places you might meet some of these "fine upstanding" characters.

Be safe and have a good 4th.

Bix, I'm more concerned about getting into a shooting and having my Department rip apart my tactics as a one person unit. It's frowned upon....

And yes, I am hyper-vigilant to my surroundings at all times. I also like to think that my "Spidey sense" is just as valuable as a weapon. With that said, you won't find me seeking out the Watts Tower as a tourist destination....but you'd be amazed at how many people do !

Speaking of the 4th of July, here is how I spent the first 7 hours of it.... <a href="http://ktla.trb.com/news/ktla-suicide-standoff,0,5834995.story?track=rss">Suicidal man holds gun to head in Police Station</a>

Anyone know where to get the photo where a gangster is holding a gun and saying something like "Keep guns out of people's hands, make my job safe."

OMG. Well, you certainly had an eventful night. Thank G-d no one got hurt.

Wow Trooper! Hope you were ok.

As for the Watts Tower's, yes, there are some extremely STUPID people out there. I routinely preach common sense to alot of people. Unfortunatley stupid is as stupid does....

let me know when you make it out to the burbs...

Did you ever make it up north around Prescott when you lived in AZ.

Very different area from the valley. Much cooler and very undeveloped and most of the area is comprised of several national forests.

Enjoy!!

Yep, I love Prescott, haven't been there in a long time though. I usually stopped by on my way to visit family in Flagstaff (where I was born).

Anyways good luck

Troop,

What an awful way to spend the morning! Did the guy keep the gun at his head for seven hours??? That must have been nerve-wracking for any officer directly in contact - you never know what a suicidal person will do, or if they'll go suicide-by-cop on you. I hope that gets the help he needs. One things for sure, no more guns for him!

Did you at least get to enjoy he festivities later in the day? Fireworks, bbq, parades, etc?

The OC is a great place for the 4th - Newport has the War Zone, beach, and fantastic fireworks at the Dunes, HB has the parade and great fireworks at the pier, Irvine, Laguna...

Bix

We went up to Flag several times last winter to let our dogs play in the snow. We also visited Williams a couple of times. Great little Route 66 town.

Give me a little notice next time you get to Prescott and we can meet down on Whiskey Row or at Prescott Brewing Co for a Pale Ale. I live just over 1 mile from the Courthouse.

Prescott has grown but it is still a small town. I think population is 38,000 these days. There are TIC apartments with more people in them!! LOL

Enjoy!!

CM_Dude,

No, his arms started getting tired so it eventually went under his chin, to his neck, to his chest then to his stomach. He had to keep switching fingers too and finally was down to his thumb. Was a long night for everyone.... and I actually worked again during the festivities on the 4th, so no fun (but I did get to see some of the fireworks from the HWD Bowl since it's so close to where I work).

During the shift on the 4th, we caught two gangsters with guns (separate occasions) and arrested 5 for street robbery (two separate occurrences). During both robberies, I was just driving down HWD Blvd when I saw people running and yelling. Never a good sign. Both times, vict's ran up to my car and say "Those guys just robbed me!" ...... talk about an adrenalin rush ! I went from 0 to 60 in about .05 seconds. Swing car around, put out a broadcast of suspects, set up a perimeter, call helicopter. etc. We were lucky and were 2 for 2 that night. Most times they get away.....

OK - whenever I'm having a bad day at work, I'm just going to think about Trooper's night. My day won't seem so bad after that thought. Glad you're OK, Troop.
