What Kind Of Home Are You Looking For?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Lift in the garage???? OMG, is my fiance on the blog? If not, I'll have to tell him there's a "car guy" on IHB he should meet. :)

It's scary enough no_vas lives practically across the street from me, and if he knew what my tool collection looked like, well...

And if Graphrix knew what I did for a living, he might want to be my new best friend.

Wait a second, what happened to this thread? We have a girl with an M3, who wants a lift in the garage.

And, no_vas is teasing me with what he does for a living. If you're a bimmer mechanic, and you do live in the presidential tract, then don't be surprised when I stop by.

No wait... this is just a TIC related trap. They know what I like by reading the threads here, and they are trying to draw me out, so they will know who I am! I knew it! Damn spies!

Sorry for sounding dingy. But when you guys talk about a "lift". Are you referring to an actual hydraulic lift like at the auto shops?

Reason: You can use a lift for a few different things, but yes...it's essentially the same lifts you see in auto shops. There are actually small lifts available that you can bolt onto the ground and can fit in some home garages. It makes it really easy to do things like oil changes, rotating tires (unless they are directional), installing brake kits, etc. I could go on and on. :)

KD, you go girl !

I currently covet an SFR 3 / 2.5, 1800 - 2200 sq ft. Main floor Master, pool....open floor plan, walls of glass. Privacy a must (due to said walls of glass), view a plus... Planning on a mid-century modern in Palm Springs area because I can't afford sh*t here in LA or OC !

Just give me an Alexander and I'll be happy. Or a Koenig or Neutra .....I can dream, can't I ?!

Trooper, Palm Springs? Would you transfer out there? If not, how could you live with the commute? Also, if you are going to move way out there, why not go a little further east and get a place in Arizona?

Troop,

I used to work for Craig Ellwood. Have you heard of him? He designed several Case Study Houses. He was not as famous as Eames nor Koenig. He was a much later generation after Neutra and Schindler. Another interesting modernist was Albert Frey and John Lautner. He was in the same league as Killingsworth and Soriano.

Oh, in that case, I can sure use a lift in a garage. I use to do oil change at home using the car jack. But as I am older now, I am alittle cautious

bk, I've heard the name Ellwood before, probably from reading up on CSH stuff. I'll have to swing by some of the houses and take a look... I know you say he wasn't as famous as E or K, but if Shulman's photographing him, he's got to be good. BTW, I'm going to see Shulman's exhibit mid-March...will let you know if it's worth the trip.

Do you know Randell Makinson from The Gamble House? I see him about once a week.

no_vaseline,

People on here have guessed that prices will continue to fall 1-2 more years. Even if you could buy it now for the 160 GRM would you not think that you could get it cheaper if you waited.

I was in Shulman's garage in 1989 when he was starting to compile his book. He even gave me one of his neg for a home designed by Harwell Hailton Harris in Studio City. He lives in a Soriano Case Study House.

Detached SFR with a garage. I have 3 cars, 2 beaters and my wife's car. But I'd settle for a decent condo in a nice area.

Halfnote, if you can get it for a price you can live with then do so. Trying to time the bottom is a gamble, 160 GRM would be more than adequate. Any less would be gravy though.
