So should we schedule a pest control service for the day we move in?

[quote author="Shooby" date=1221703948]Just post your 800 number for pest control in the columbus square forum, you'll get a lot of hits. I hope someone's dog doesn't get bit by one of these, not sure how their immune system could handle it</blockquote>

Are you moving in Phase 11? You'll be right behind my house, I was in 10. I would honestly go to Home depot right now and buy a jug a termite killer and spray the outside of your house, the garage, front door, windows...even though its getting colder, columbus square definitely has a ton of bugs.

i was talking to a neighbor last night, who found mice in his garage. and about 5 black widows in his house, and crickets in his garage all night.

and my other neighbor had maggots in her garage, although i question the cleanliness of her garage in that instance.

These bugs are like mutant size! must be the toxic soil. lol.

we are moving in to phase 12. we are closing end of November. i'm going to be driving you crazy with questions from now on!:) like which plan are you in 1, 2, or 3? did you seal your own kitchen countertops and did you upgrade your flooring? have any problems with vintage design?

Haha, no problem. I got a plan 1, moved in last December. I went to Lowe's and bought a jug of granite sealer for like $50 bucks, and just sponged it on. Then with the recommendation of one of my friends, I also bought a can of spray to seal my grout in the floor tiling as well.

IMO, Vintage is a rip off. Yeah they have nice design, but $20,000 for flooring? I took that $20K and I applied it to the cost of my house.

Talk to Arlene, when I bought, Jeanne let me take it off. I'd rather pay less in mortgage interest than have nice flooring. So I took the standard carpet and tile, and I got quoted about $7,000 for hardwood floors and upgraded carpet for my place, and I will probably do that in 2-3 years. Take what I can get, esp in this economy. Vintage did an OK job, I still step on sharp nails in the carpeting and the edges were a bit hastily done. So I'd def take the $20K off and wait and find a better flooring company. They sure make a pretty penny off of us.

I'm glad more people are moving in. Hopefully the damn HOA's will go down now.

Hey Polarbecca, welcome to the neighborhood. We've been living in a Plan 3 since June 2007 (GREAT timing!). You can definitely seal your own counters. It's easy. Vintage Design did a great job in our place. We did walnut flooring throughout the 2nd floor. The tile lines in the kitchen and baths are very clean/straight. We haven't had the bug/rodent problems, but we do have crickets in the garage.

We bought in Phase 11, moving in Mid-October, we upgraded the entryway and master bathroom floor through vintage design, and bought shutters, but other than that, they were a little too pricey. Standard carpet throughout, though after we get our keys, we're gonna rip up the carpet on the second floor and install hardwood. Additionally, we're gonna cut up the ceiling for surround sound, mount the t.v. over the fireplace, and make a built in cabinet for the media niche. Its kind of ridiculous Camden doesnt offer pre-wiring for surround sound, I was planning on bringing a six-pack to the workers to see if they would run some wires for me, but no dice...

I have a friend who's closing escrow mid-November. She's buying a Plan 2. Maybe I can get her to join the blog so she can get to know some of her soon to be neighbors.

That would be great!!! Is she on lafayette? I went by our place under construction and they were working. How is construction noise for everyone as there are two more phases to go before the construction quiets down?

Noise is getting better as they finish phase 11 and move onto phase 12 and 13. I used to wake up to construction and it was quite annoying. But now, as they finish up the only thing that's unsettling is the dust.

i'm moving into phase 12. I walked through yesterday and it was noisy even on a saturday, i didn't realize the crews worked on the weekend as well. I also noticed the crazy amount of large spider webs. Now i'm completely paranoid and already checked out the various bug killers at lowes!:)

how many phases are there supposed to be?

my gf and i came to look this past weekend, but we're still in saving mode, looking to buy sometime between summer or fall of '09.

when will they stop building and be finished?

thx.

Haha, wait until you see the actual black widows. They are big ass crappers. Yes, ass crappers.

Glad its winter, with all this construction excavation, ants were on the prowl for a new home. Unfortunately it was my kitchen counter all summer.

I believe phase 12 is move in for Nov, and I believe there are a total of 16 phases, correct me if i'm wrong. And the last time I checked, build out was around 2013. Things might have changed since I last asked though.

From the site map on the lennar website ... There seems to be only 15 phases.

here is a map

Not sure why they are building so fast, but in 2008 they built 3 phases, 11, 12 & 13. At this rate with only 2 phases left they will be done in 2009.

i think columbus square is trying to complete all the condos first... merriweather, camden, and cambridge lane.

i think the place does not look as bad as it did before, but it's still definitely rather vacant looking.

I am thinking the same thing. They already started selling phase 13 which should be done in March 2009. Build out will definately be done by most likely 2009 / 2010

If you really want to buy in Camden Place speak to the sales office about calling you when they start selling phase 15 that way you can still buy because phase 15 will most likely close around the time that you are wanting to buy.

What bug spray were you using if any? I'm really worried about bugs now, when we move in.
