NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
hahahhaaa...... irvine has a 53% above the 1500 mark and laguna has a 55% above. whoa... that is a big difference.... now lets compare the cost of living in laguna beach vs the cost of living in irvine..... i am sure it will cost 2% more and i don't even need to cite any sources for that info....

anyways sat score is and can be boost up with prep courses. which cost a lot of money....

ok graphix you are right about the parent involvement.... and spelling is number 1 prority on this board..... my bad.... hahahaaa

<p>From the data, I deduce that the wealthier schools have MORE students doing well on the SAT. But the schools with the HIGHER average SAT score are actually not as wealthy. Thus it appears to me that Newport Beach and Laguna Beach have a population that does well in general due to their affluence. Whereas the higher scoring schools are all in Irvine. That simply shows that a segment of students in Irvine is more motivated. But regardless, ALL the high performing school is at least middle to upper class. NONE are in working class communities.</p>

OK, I will rant about education for a while........my credentials on this are well......a lot of education: BS in Chemistry and Math (Appalachian State), MS Physical Chemistry (Purdue Univ), Ph.D. Physical Chemistry(Wesleyan Univ.), PostDoc(C tal Tech), ExMBA(Stanford)........

What I found was this......it almost makes not difference where a kid goes to school......if he/she is motivated and intellectually curious he/she will do well. In my opinion parents that obsess over test scores are barking up the wrong alley. Focus on what you kids are good at and let them figure it out.

Of course, I speak with great authority here.......my oldest son graduated with a remarkable D average from Northwood...because he refused to do homework. Getting A's on all the tests was not good enough, he had to do mindless homework to show how smart he was. My youngest son sort of got thrown out of school and goes to an alternative school for those that don't fit in.

So, if you want your kids to be cookie cutter.....Irvine is a great place. Personally, I was not so impressed with Irvine schools.

One last thing.....I was a high drop out.

jcaraway,

Serious post....the story about my son was amazing. He was getting an F in physics his senior year. I called the teacher to find out what was going on....he got an A on all the tests, was doing all the lab work, but did not do 63 out of 63 homework assignments.......earning him an F. I do not know any smart adults that do work if they do not need to...regardless. I think that these sort of rules about homework are dictated by the school district and not the individual teachers.

And Irvine Renter, I did end up going back to high school. I graduated 498th out of 500 hundred students. Its hard to believe that there were two students as bad as I was.

<p>Although I agree that an individual kid can succeed in any environment, I'm observing the community as a whole.</p>

<p>In lower income areas, the average student tend to do much worse than in higher income areas.</p>

<p>Schools in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Midway City, Anaheim, Westminster, Stanton, etc have below average test scores.</p>

HS Teacher,

Because teaching is your specialty, I would defer to you about what is best for students in high school.

I can tell you though, that when you get to graduate programs at top tier schools like like Cal Tech, the students come from every sort of background that you could imagine. Some of the best students come from places like villages in shri lanka, china, and missisipi.

<p>It is my opinion that the school isn't the limiting factor in your child's education. The limiting factor is your attitude and expectations, and your childs internal drive to get it done. Obviously it helps if you child is reasonably bright. It really helps if your child works hard.</p>

In certain graduate schools, students who drink alcohols do better than non-drinkers. So, more beer for the high schoolers and grade schoolers! Get them started early.

<p>There are numerous factors affecting the success of a student. But teachers can't really focus on just individuals, we have to serve the needs of the whole public.</p>

<p>And it seems that the environment has a significant effect on students' academic performance.</p>

Does anyone know which phase is currently being sold? I was told that my lot has been pushed back to phase 6 and I am curious if they are getting any closer to selling that phase.

<p>Amazing, that R6. Started at $539k, up a few increments to $582k even as the bubble was starting to deflate. 18 months later, it has fallen to net of $485k, with a few upgrades.</p>

<p>I remember shaking my finger at that sales lady when they jumped from $539 to $565 in late 2006 saying "Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. You are are just <em>asking</em> for it with increases like that." "No, no, no" they told me. "These were underpriced at $539k."</p>
