Veterans Cemetery coming to Irvine

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

It'll be just south of Broadcom. The view entering Irvine will be of a cemetery. Thoughts on the chances of this happening or staying at the original location?

I think there should be a Veteran's cemetery in Irvine, but the location seems odd. I also wonder what Broadcom's thoughts are about this too. They're going to have 8,000 employees moving in to their new main offices, with many religious backgrounds, with a view of a cemetery, while working in high tech.

The Broadcom factor is up in the air. They recently got aquired.

I can give you a lecture regarding the pitfall of acquisitions in another thread. (If you like.)

They're still going to move in to the building. Construction is moving forward. Someone is going to have a lot of tech employees move-in pretty soon.

I still think it's an odd location. Right next to Spectrum, an area of entertainment and for everyone driving, it will be the first thing they see. The original location seems more fitting.

So clearly you aren't a 5P homeowner. Lemme guess- you are a Broadcom employee with FS issues?

Good guess, but no.

As a side note: people buying in 5P knew that this was a possibility. It's not a surprise that it could be built there.

Well with two posts. Both on this issue, it's a logical guess.

And this has been discussed at length but cemetery didn't come up until after PP sales started. Not too long into it but some folks could argue, they didn't know.

I heard Broadcom employees are bouncing (leaving) to Space X. Also Broadcom announced layoffs around 700.

I agree to a certain extent, but vast majority knew and are now fighting it. The location they want to go to now will literally affect everyone in Irvine. It will go against the plan initially laid out. Moving it to this particular location will only appease the current owners of 5P communities.

200,000 cars a day will see a cemetery on their drives.

next to schools and homes?  lol

Look I think they are both odd locations.. and the Vets want to jam it right in there.  I get it.. but there was an alternative in anaheim hills.  Nope.. they want it smack in the middle.  Any pushback?  Use the vet card.

Vets are among the most entitled groups.

...and they deserve the privileges for their (and their family's) service and sacrifice for our country.

Is this a bad thing? Do people become upset passing lush green cemeteries while driving?

Doubt it will be lush or green.  Too expensive to water grass so it sounds like it will mostly be concrete crypts.  With 100 years to completion, it will just be one big construction site.

"...the cemetery would accommodate 200,000 burials, mostly cremations, in 10 phases constructed over 100 years."

I'm with momopi.

Veterans are one of the correct Constitutional things we are paying taxes for.

Interesting. What are some of the things that aren't "correct Constitutional things" for which we're paying?

Too expensive to water... Sounds like it'll keep with the desert motif

It's not like people want to move the cemeteries next a landfill or former toxic site.. just to the lush hills in Anaheim.  ;)

Or it can remain within the former Naval Base which is very appropriate.  Base was there first, houses came after.

My opinion has nothing to do with me trying to get a nice house in Irvine at a price that I can afford >:D
