Just curious if anyone has purchased or knows someone that has purchased the vizio 70 inch tv - its on sale now for 1,700
http://store.vizio.com/e701ia3.html

i think it is the cheapest 70 inch out there.  we have had a 42 inch vizio for the past 4-5 years and have no issues with it.

just curious what peoples thoughts on it were if they had purchased it.

Any recommendations for a tv?  looking at 60-70 inch, probably will not go with the 80 inch at this point, at 80 inches all the tvs seem to be over 3,000.  im not really a techy so i dont need the best picture out there. once it is in our living room i wont have the side by side comparison like i would in the store to see how much better another tv's picture quality is and am sure i will be perfectly happy with the picture quality.  i think our vizio pic quality is fine now.

I think buying a 60" for less than $1000 might be a better buy than a 70" at $1700.

Vizio is a decent brand although most people prefer the S brands (Samsung, Sony, Sharp). I like LG too. Our first LCD was a Vizio and it's still in use today (it hurts to think we bought a 32" for $600 back then when you can get a 60" Sharp for $699 now).

I think a Sharp 70" is around $1900... which to me is a better brand.

i agree, value wise the 60" for 1K is probably a better deal. My wife said the same thing.

65 inch Samsung was $1500 at many places this weekend.  Might still be able to get it here:http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN65EH6000FXZA-buy

It's not 'Smart' and isn't 3D but it has great reviews at Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN65EH6000-65-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B0074FGNDC/

i dont want 3D and kind of indifferent as to whether it is smart/dumb so this would work fine - i dont think i would really use the apps (netflix, hulu, etc) very often. and i dont think the tv browsers are all that good yet.

The 70" Vizio at Costco is $1500.

IHO - is that online or in the store? They had the 70 inch online then sold out now it is not even on their website. Did you see at the actual warehouse? If so, which one?

I agree and my dad ordered this a couple days ago.  I also had him get an Apple TV so he can use AirPlay (he has an iPad currently):http://www.apple.com/appletv/airplay/

very convenient - although not as convenient as when we move Tustin Ranch road is open. They are making pretty progress on that by they way. i think they are prepping the area on both sides of edinger to build the overpass to connect Tustin Ranch road over edinger. thanks.

That 70 incher is gonna look nice in your living room....Super Bowl party at your house?  We kill two birds with one stone...house warming and Super Bowl at the same time.  :D

we were thinking of a superbowl get together or a dinner. one of my friends is a big foodie, you met him at the one year olds bday party, he prepares a lot of good meals and enjoys cooking - ill keep you posted. but the superbowl is more likely.  either way the massive island will be put to good use. im going to measure the space where the tv would go tomorrow to make sure the 70 inch isnt overkill.

Vizio is based in Irvine, so if you buy from them, you're supporting local business.

The owner, Mr. Wang, used to own MAG Innovation, maker of MAG monitors in the 1990's.  I used to buy monitors from him wholesale when I worked in PC Hardware industry in the 90's.  We supplied hundreds of computers and monitors to some telemarketing company at the Howard Hughes building in LA, the one with the large elevator in the back where Mr. Hughes used to drive his car directly into.

About 12 years ago he was on a Singapore Airlines flight that crashed in Taiwan & killed half of the passengers.  My old college GF's father was on the same flight and they both survived.  After surviving the crash, he sold the monitor business and went into the flat screen TV business.

TVs are getting so cheap.. makes you wonder what's coming next that they are clearing the old models.
A question people: Can I buy a TV and hook up to my computer to use it as a monitor?

Two ways:

1. If the TV has a VGA port (which many do).

2. If your computer has HDMI-out (which usually is on notebook computers).

I use a docking station. Let me check.. It will make life easier for me if I can snag a 40 inch TV in good deal and use as a monitor. Thanks IHO.

not recommended... monitors tend to have better pixel resolution than tvs that is why vga cables (technology from the yetster-years) can still carry resolution loads of hdmi (1920x1200)... so if ur tv's 720p ur gonna get blurry imaging...

so technology compatibility wise... its always better to have a computer monitor "act" as a tv (picture quality will be superior) than have a tv act as a computer monitor

Do they have retna resolution on monitors yet?

actually i take it back... there are newer generation VGA cables that can support up to like  2048?1536px (QXGA) @85 Hz (388 MHz)... that blows the crap out of shitty ass hdmi... now whether most computer monitors or heck even video cards can support that lol is a different story though hahaha... i know ur thinking like WHAT? VGA trumphs HDMI??? how is that possible?? trust me... i went through the same thing trying to hack my ps3's hdmi encoding... had to buy a hdmi encryption decoder and the output is in VGA with no data loss... we live in a crazy world of marketing where perfectly fine cables that can support the load have to be replaced by newer ones cause the heads different =_=... haha money money money

so anyways if ur adamant about using a tv as a monitor since u dont play games, design graphics, etc... and dont mind potential color loss (less vibrant colors) and lower contrast ratios (particularly if u go low end on ur tv)... just see what resolution ur video card on the computer can handle... and then whatever tv u pick, make sure it supports that resolution...

ok... here... anything coming out of AAPL's mouth is full of marketing...

what is a retina display? it just means "high end" LED pixels than average being used that spit out high PPI's... if every computer monitor company was "aapl" then ALL the high end monitors above 700 USD with awesome PPI's would be called SUPER RETINA display... they blow AAPL's so called "retina displays" out the window man... they just dont market it that way (they wish they knew how to market it that way cause then theyll be making bank like AAPL but they dont know how hahahhaha)... only AAPL likes to pull some non-industry standard shit to trick the masses like its some super duper new technology when its not...
