Toyota moving to Texas

Numbers have no political bend...address the point instead of attacking the messenger thinking that invalidates the argument...lazy.

This is a long read but well worth it...not really my point of view but even blue state people see the debacle...

THE CALIFORNIA DREAM IS DYING
The once-dynamic state is closing the door on economic opportunity.

If California fails to offer young people and newcomers the opportunity to improve their lot, the consequences will be catastrophic?and not only for California. The end of the California Dream would deal a devastating blow to the proposition that such a widely diverse polity can thrive. Indeed, blue America?s model faces its most consequential stress test in one of its safest states, where a spectacular run of almost unbroken prosperity could be killed by a miserly approach to opportunity.

A lot of traffic in Texas now. Housing prices has significantly increased and high property taxes in Texas. On top of the unpredictable weather in Texas. In addition, this September the new Texas state law will allow people to poses and open carry guns without a permit. Despite opposition or caution from police in Texas.

Tesla moves headquarters from California to Texas

?From a legal perspective, there?s less of a regulatory burden in Texas,? Romano said. ?It?s a more business- and employer -riendly state in many ways. You have to jump through far fewer hoops in Texas or Florida as an employer than you do in California in terms of reporting requirements and more.?

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said the Tesla CEO supported his state?s ?social policies? as well. However, Elon Musk declined to weigh in on Texas? restrictive new abortion law after Abbott made that claim.

It will be a rough day for SoCal if SpaceX follows closely behind TSLA. Texas has a rocket testing site already up and running - something California cannot provide. Yes, Vandenburg will launch Falcon-9's every so often, but Florida really is still the USA's launch capital.

elon musk leaving?  no spin needed

There is a steady procession of young (5-10 years experience) engineers making their way to a competitor in CO.  One on my team told me she got a 30% raise as a baseline offer.  A friend bought a 3200 sq ft house in a beautiful mountain location on 1/2 acre before her 1st day...for $750k.  I know of 2 couples that went, where both got offers independent of each other.

De-Nile is also a river in Egypt.

The announcement that Tesla is moving its headquarters to Texas may not be a surprise, but it confirms trends that California?s progressive gentry simply refuse to acknowledge. Tesla, among the diminishing number of large manufacturers based in the state, joins a growing exodus that includes such tech giants as Oracle and Hewlett Packard, financial firms like Charles Schwab, and a host of high-end engineering and business service companies.

he fact that since 2000, 2.6 million domestic migrants ? a population larger than the cities of San Francisco, San Diego, and Anaheim combined ? have moved from California to other parts of the United States.

These same geniuses also insist that California ?always? comes back from setbacks, following the gubernatorial line about the state ?roaring back?. California?s amazing wealth creation makes a few very rich but does not work for most Californians. As of now, the state suffers the country?s second worst unemployment rate, the highest percentage of poverty and the second worst rate of homeownership. A clearly struggling national economy, with far slower job growth than expected, will likely not make things better.

One other thing about Tesla moving to Texas, aren't they unable to sell their cars directly in state?
in theory if they make a car in texas and want to sell it to a texan they will have to ship it out of state to do so

but they don't currently make cars in texas and even when they do they are still going to have the fremont plant going

I believe Tesla can't sell direct in Texas no matter where they make the car (and they are building a Giga factory in Tx).

It's some car dealership protection that Texas has.

@morekaos: I welcome less people in Cali... less traffic... less pollution... less lines at Omomo.

When I first moved to California in 1988, the population was under 30 mil. Now we're at 40 mil. So I, too, welcome people to move out of state.

I would be shocked if Elon isn't angling to change the law as part of the negotiation with TX govt to relocate there.

Exactly.

I NEVER thought I would leave California and I give us at least 50/50 odds within the next year. If it weren't for one of my kids still being here, I'd have left by now.

Part of the reason we don't have enough water is we have too many people. And part of the reason for increased climate issues is more people.

So if there isn't enough water, why are we encouraging people to move here? Why are we inviting the world's homeless to live the California dream? Why are we encouraging illegal immigration and shielding people who aren't even here legally? Why are we just building more and more when we can't support what we already have?
