Kid is in HS but we have been able to schedule around the school to enjoy our place in the city. Most of the time we leave our kid in the suburb. We don't believe in making sacrifices for the younger generation just to deprive ourselves from enjoying life. Moving to a sardine can so the kid could attend a high API school may be ok for many families but not for us.

That's the best of both worlds :-)
Your kid is in High School now?

Not much of a beach but close enough to the water. The loft is near the Highline by the Meatpacking District very close to the High Line. All Holidays and Summers we lived a city life and for the rest of the year sleepy suburbia without a soul by 9pm. Coney Island is not much of a beach and near the ghetto side of Brooklyn.

SoCal- Yes! Lets do it this summer!
We have movies and beaches on the list, some swimming when husband is around..
Reminds me- I have some home improvement items on the list.. that will take up some time. Last year we had fun painting the bedrooms. Thankfully the carpet was being stripped. You have a lot to look forward to :-) I have changed the furniture in every room except the master bedroom now. So not much work left.. We should buy a home in Lambert ranch may be ;-) Bigger canvas to work on.

IHS- beach or city? :-) Both sound good!

guessing the sardine can reference is to the irvinites.  many of our friends enjoy nice vacations and live in a "sardine can" so you can have both.  but i get it...money isnt endless and something will be traded for spending more on your house.

getting back on topic, we are spending 3 weeks in scandinavia this summer.  thinking denmark, sweden, norway and finland.

You are referencing money and I want to correct this statement. I am not rich by any mean just normal like most of you. I work hard and choose to spend it wisely to maximize the end result so I don't compromise my quality of life and that includes taking advantage of opportunities like taking IHO's tax dollars for my financial gain, finding smart way to send my kid to a good school or out smart the people out trying to rob all of us. I don't make sacrifices or martyr myself for the sake of Children's education.

i think everyone would say the same thing that they arent making sacrifices or compromises...everyone has priorities, must haves, nice to haves, and dont cares.

you see living in irvine new homes as a sacrifice or compromise but it isnt to us.  we have different things that we value and look for in a neighborhood.  you can argue that irvine doesnt have what we think we are getting or what we value but you cant argue that what we value is wrong

Living next to a dump is not a sacrifice? I do get it. People have different expectations in high, moderate and none. Per my high standard it is a suicide than a sacrifice! Only my opinion so just take it as a grain of salt.

i appreciate your opinion and this one gives me a big pause.  LR and PS are closest to landfill but NWP, SG, WB are all very close.  so the question really becomes are we substantially safer living another mile from the landfill?  i dont doubt we are safer but key is if its substantially safer.  if its minutely safer, then it doesnt seem like its worth it.

everything is a tradeoff IHS.  a 5 point harness is safer than a standard seat belt in a car crash but is the increased hassle worth the benefit?

Psst: Think Santa Ana ;-)

I think that's something people use to mask their own failures in planning- like I always say, if not for the children, every mom I meet for coffee after sending kids to school would be heading Citibank :-) While bringing up children is hard work, many people make their lives revolve around their kids, mostly because they need it.. not because the kids need it.

Back to the topic now guys- Summer plans. Not Land fill, not sardine cans.
Oh, I have to throw this gem in : When you live in North Park, you won't ever take a vacation, because it's living in a resort everyday. (My Realtor). Now I know it's true- you will end up spending all your money in two HOAs and Mello Roos- there won't be any left to go to a resort :-)

Nice! Is it a package tour or are you planning every part separately?

planning each part separately.  we seem to enjoy our own pace much more and especially with 1.5 year old with us, we want full flexibility.

last year, we did 5 weeks in 5 countries and baby was 5 months old.  funny that it was all 5s :)  that was pretty easy as she wasnt mobile but this time, a bit concerned cause of how much she wants to run and play.  the full flexibility will help if we decide to just stay in 1 place the whole time and take it really slow

some folks were saying i can see much more than just 3-4 major cities in 16-18 days.  any one with scandinavia itins they want to share?

we have done a bit of travel with her even after she became full on mobile.  this will be the 6th trip but only 2nd international

western europe and major cities are pretty easy.  they are stroller friendly, great and easily accessible healthcare, plenty of food options, etc.  we definitely do not want to venture to developing countries though

the key is the flexibility as 1 day might literally be nothing but parks whereas another day, she might be able to handle hanging in her strollers for extended times for museums and stuff like that

CZ, did you find the pipe cleaner craft kit?

Day 1 of Summer:

As I type, I am decked out in the most beautiful pipe cleaner jewelry you ever laid eyes on. They made me a braided pipe cleaner bangle bracelet to go with my lei made out of cut up straws and fake flowers. Feeling like a pipe cleaner princess.

They've also made every animal in the kingdom. We wanted to go swimming but alas, it's overcast today.

is school already out?  that would explain kids at the park this morning..i thought they were all playing hooky

IUSD is next week (at least for our school).

Ours would have been next week had it not been for furlough days which they put on the end of the year. When is your first day of school going to be? We are Sept. 6.

TUSD out!
Baby CZ lost her first tooth, and got all 4/E report card home. No lost lunch boxes or cardigans/sweaters/jackets. I will call that a successful year.
Junior CZ lost several Ts, cardigans, and jeans, and paid for two text books, but got a stellar A+ report card, two student of the months, honor roll, etc. I will call that a mixed year.

Loving not having to be anywhere. Summer, how I've missed you!

Went to a water fountain play area today. My boys splish-splashed around the water jets for a couple hours. Thanks to all the shaded seating, I was able to stay longer than normal. (I'm still on the lookout for SPF 1,000 for my ghostly self.) Ate some Hawaiian snacks and went home. It's a nice day out. What a great life I have!

The Hawaiian place here is called Da Laua. It's the sister shop to the Irvine location at Jeffrey and Trabuco. It's the only place I know of that serves Spam musubi. Love, love, love Foothill Ranch. We have everything you can think of here! :)
