Solar Panel - Which company to go with?

Maybe that's it, I only turn on the AC when we are home and if it's too unbearable.

It's usually cool still in the afternoon and only gets hotter at night.

But AC only gets used during summer so not sure why your bill runs so high during the winter/cold days.

I'm a tech geek, so I'm basically always in front of a glowing rectangle. All entertainment and work involves electricity.

My Edison bill is only $1 a month. Had to go with SunPower also, since it was through the builder.

Did you get any year-end adjustments from Edison? How long have you been in your house?
I've only lived in the house for 4 months. So, I'll be curious to see what my net credits will be at the end of the year. I only went through the builder for my panels, because I would have voided my roof warranty, if I used an outside contractor after COE.

My previous home was 3100sf & every single room had either 4-6 recessed lights. I was constantly telling my kids to turn the lights off when they left a room. Plus, being a family of 5, so we use a lot of vampire power. I also use the AC  quite a bit, since I get hot easily.

I get excited on super hot days now, because my panels create excess energy to add to the grid.  :D

Been reading up on upcoming the Tesla announcement. Did not know Solar City was also owned by Elon Musk.

The battery initiative sounds promising... solar + batteries = primetime?

I see. You're in for a big surprise then. Please report back here when you get your adjusted billing from Socal Edison >:D

Elon Musk is the chairman of the board of Solar City. Lyndon Rive is the CEO of Solar City.

I think I read somewhere that Musk is the largest shareholder, Rive is his cousin.

The reason why I get excited on the hot days is because I can crank on the AC down to 72 & not have to worry about how much my bill is going to me next month. Someone is usually home during the summer & that AC is kicking 24 hours a day. I know the net credits will very minimal. My whole reason for getting solar was to crank that AC, not to make money off of the excess solar energy.

Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you that it feels good to use the A/C 24/7 during summer. Our house is the first to have solar power in PS included by the builder. I'm just saying we were shocked when we got the adjusted billing from Socal Edison.

I'm sure Solar City is going to have a Solar+PowerWall package.

I may jump on this just because of the battery.
So I hear in a year or so there will be another car that will compete with Tesla at greater than half the price of Tesla.

Not bad... $3000 for 7kWh battery or $3500 for 10kWh... Installations starting this summer. Solar city + powerwall + model S/3... c-c-c-combo!

Most people will probably lease it from solarcity.

Yeah - I don't think homeowner has solar nor a Tesla. So I have no idea why he wants the tesla battery.
Sigh. This is the same kind of logic that can't connect freedom of speech to military veterans.

I think your the last person to bring up character on TI. I'll just leave it at that.

If I'm wrong. Okay, what's your reason why you want a tesla battery? (Maybe you can tell us about how much you like your Tesla and/or solar panels. Also, how the tesla battery will help you charge your tesla car from the solar panels)

You can't post a statement like that and just say you'll leave it. If you have a question about my online TI "character" have at it. I know you've been trying to poke at me but I've mostly ignored you.

I've actually been trying to avoid you but what is the accusation now? Or are you going to be like Tyler and just claim some shortfall without explaining it?

This is where you post without doing the math because you are busy trying to take a jab at me.

Let me connect it for you since you still don't understand how the military is connected to our First Amendment rights.

1. I don't really see the value in solar panels because my electricity bill isn't that high.
2. Thus, the excess energy I'll be producing will go back to the utility whose credit isn't always equitable (as exampled by other posters here).
3. But, if there is way to store this excess energy so you can use it when the sun is not out, and not having to rely on the utility, that's a pro for solar.
4. Additionally, if there is a blackout, you can use the battery, that is another pro.

It has nothing to do with owning a Tesla car or solar panels (which you think), it's an impetus to think about buying solar panels AND the battery because there is better upside.

But, as the article that SubSolar  posted points out, this type of usage (despite what the Tesla site says) isn't prime time... so maybe in a few years. By then, I'll probably want to own an EV (and not some overpriced Tesla) and that would make even more sense.
