Thanks for the explanations.

There is Upland nursery located to Village nursery in Orange.  Can't wait to see your waterfall feature once installed.  I too wanted to get one
By the way, is that also called raised planters where you are going to put plants against the common wall?

Thanks for the tip about that nursery!

If we closed off the wall and filled it with soil, yes, it would be a raised planter, however the HOA does not allow you to install a raised planter, so it's just a seat wall and the soil is to remain at ground level behind it. : (

The pavers look amazing, I'd be a happy camper too.  I will take a picture of the landscaping from the current place we are renting when I get a chance to show you what a crappy one looks like lol.

Just wanted to thank Lucky for the posts.  We have the conserveratory so we won't have the porch to worry about.  I think that we may go with tall vegetation/trees, especially in the side yard facing the street.

Aww, thanks, folks. :-[ You make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I'm very glad if anyone finds this stuff helpful or interesting. Before I got my landscaping figured out I was desperate for photos and info on some local landscaping, but very little was to be found, even here on TI, so I wanted to provide some content for others in a similar situation.

Here are photos showing Friday's work. This time I'm also including photos from both narrow sides of the house. Eager to pick out plants and trees. We visited Aki Nursery to take a look around and the nice lady there told us about a place called Emily's Garden off Harbor and MacArthur that is Vietnamese run and purportedly has lots of Asian fruit trees.

Looks great.  Thanks for the tip about Emily's Garden.  I'll have to swing by to see out what they have available.

Great plan, I like your yard.  What are those small curved on the side?

You mean in the last photo, right? Those are small planter areas that will each have a drain and a light and on the wall will be a trellis with jasmine. They are directly opposite of the windows in the house so that when looking out the window you see the greenery instead of the brick wall. : )

Little details, so nicely thought out ahead of time.

I was wondering why do you need that little patches of dirt on the side yards as it would make the narrow path way even narrower.  Now I get it.  Good idea.

Nice paving.  What time of day was the photos?  The house shadow is really heavy.  Also, how wide are the side areas? They look like about 4.5 foot?

Wait, maybe only 3.5 foot? The plans say that wall is only 5.5 foot.  Is that right?

I can answer that for lucky.  Yes, they are 4.5 foot.

Thanks! Took the photos pretty late in the afternoon. During the middle of the day most of the large area sees sun.

As @songkou said, yes 4.5' wide. The side walls are about 6.5' and the back wall is about 9.5' tall.

@stromung- Thanks!

Yesterday we spent two hours with our landscaper at the nursery where he'll buy all our plants and trees. He'll be buying them later today.

Meanwhile, his crew has been finishing up the pavers (by flattening them out and applying the sealer) and getting the irrigation system installed in the trenches they dug yesterday.

He estimates we'll be fully done by tomorrow or the day after. Can't wait!

I'll post more photos once there's something significant to show.

Wow, you even paved side yard too
I plan to do concrete for side yard to save few bucks
Nobody is gonna see it, hopefully
Based on a recent quote from a landscaper, concrete is slightly more expensive than paving stones.

I think that depends on who you go to.

"Home Depot parking lot" landscapers have really cheap concrete prices.
