Really disheveled homeless-looking dude wandering the streets

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Anybody else notice over the past coupla days in Westpark, Woodbridge, and Northwood a dirty, tired looking guy with dreadlocks wandering the streets? This is the kind of thing you don't see very often in Irvine - made me wonder, do we even have a single homeless shelter or some other community service that we could call up to pick this guy up? He looks disoriented, probably hungry...?

Probably an out of work New Century broker still stunned that it all went bad so quickly. The repo guys took his car and left him wandering the streets.

<p>ISM,</p>

<p>I know exactly who you're talking about. I saw him while driving on Edinger near Villages of Columbus around 6:30 yesterday. A few months back, he was walking along Irvine Blvd near Jeffrey late at night. At that time, his dreadlocks was really long. I uttered these exact words as I drove past him, "What the hell is that?"</p>

<p>And last week he was hanging on to the light pole near Walnut and Jamboree. But as of late his dreadlocks have been trimmed down.</p>

<p>I saw him yesterday on the corner of Jeffrey and Irvine Center Drive. Sounds like he gets around a bit. </p>

<p>My husband and I call him DD (Dredlock Dude).</p>

<p>Last week we were getting off the 5 south on Oso Parkway. There was a couple (probably in their 30's or 40's) at the end of the ramp with signs stating they were hungry and needed food.</p>

<p></p>

I once saw an Irvine police officer writing what looked like a ticket or a warning to a homeless man near the Tustin Market Place. Imagine, being broke and now you got a ticket.

<p>There is a method to our madness. Write ticket, he doesn't pay, goes to warrant, we arrest him, he goes to jail for a few weeks, they make him shower and eat decent meals, give him new clean clothes, mandatory medical check up, he is out of your hair for awhile. Any questions? Win win in my opinion.</p>

<p>As Effen would say, "Rinse, lather, repeat". </p>

<p>Trooper-</p>

<p>That's the "3 Hots and a Cot" vacation plan. Best when combined with a 3-day court weekend, as the city jail holds you until Tuesday. Timed correctly, you get 4 days before you even see a judge.</p>

<p>Not that I would know anything about that </p>

And none of this would be necessary if the mental health institutions hadn't been defunded by President Reagan. Come to 5th and Wall in downtown L.A. sometime...it's unbelievable. Up to 10,000 homeless in a 4 block area at any given time. Polls done indicate half have mental health issues, half are there by choice (refuse to live in shelters because of the "no alcohol, no drug" policy they have)....and I'm not exaggerating.

<p>I just can't help with this comment: I would rather see our $2 billion a day borrowed by Bank of China to help the homeless than to you know where! ( I voted for the guy twice! ) </p>
