The common denominator is not guns, it's mentally ill people.  Now that we've identified the underlying cause of these tragedies, what is the solution?  More therapy?  Maybe.  But I think we need to start from the beginning.  I think the biggest issue is how our children are being raised.  What is contributing to the mentally ill that want to shoot up the school or commit X tragedy?  Violent movies, tv shows, and video games all glorify the hero who is invincible and kills at will.  Do you think that puts ideas in the heads of mentally ill people?  For someone who is never the hero, never has anything good going in their life, the thought of being a hero in your own story for once would be the greatest thing ever.

If you don't think violent media influences these mentally ill people, imagine a world where we didn't have movies like John Wick and video games like Call of Duty.  Where else would the idea that you could use weapons to kill tens of people with come from?  I used to think it was a crazy idea that these things contributed to mass tragedies.  Why, I have no inclination to shoot up a school after I watch one of those movies or play one of those games.  But, I can now see how the idea can be put in the head of someone who is mentally ill.  Especially someone who has no support system and nobody to tell them what's right from wrong.

But now we find ourselves in the same position - do we ban video games and violent movies?  That won't work either.  We need to be more present in our young people's lives.  We need to do a better job at teaching them what's right and what's wrong, even if you don't think it needs to be said.  It starts with our schools and with our parenting.  We've raised a generation of neglected youth and it's starting to show.

According to BTB and others on the Florida thread, they played Duke Nukem and didn't kill anybody. :)

I totally agree with you, this post should be in the Florida thread.

We obviously can't ban violent media, but it is a contributor, esp to those who are easily influenced by it... except BTB.  :)

Thanks for posting this chart. So we are comparable to some African and South American nations in the homicide rate, and worse off than little more developed EU countries, Australia and China.

I don't take pride in that.

Back in the day the gun was used to hunt for food and protection from outlaws and wild animals. Also, to fight for independence.

Time to get this thread back on track...

Dopey Russian ads didn't swing voters ? federal coverups did
Much of the media coverage is hailing Special Counsel Robert Mueller?s indictment of 13 Russian trolls as stunning proof of foreign hacking of the 2016 election. Mueller may have other cards up his sleeve and the jury is still out. But the U.S. government likely duped far more voters than did the Russians on Election Day 2016.

Mueller revealed that 13 Russians and 3 companies were allegedly involved in attempting to sow dissent in the U.S. prior to and after the election. Most of their spending on Facebook ads occurred after the election, and they included spurring both pro-Trump and anti-Trump outbursts. Many of the ads were dopey even by Facebook standards, including a picture of Jesus getting ready to punch Hillary Clinton.

The officer who heard the threat, Marino Chavez, contacted deputies, who began an investigation which lead them to the suspect?s Norwalk home, where they found two AR-15 rifles, two handguns and 90 high-capacity military-grade magazines.
<snip>
His brother, Barcenas, was arrested Tuesday night on multiple charges, including possession of an assault weapon, import of high-capacity magazines, criminal storage of firearms, failure to register a personal handgun and possession of an assault weapon and a thumbhole stock.

He probably didn't have to go any further than Arizona or Nevada to get them and then still skirt around at a gun show.  Assuming there isn't a gun show loophole locally.  The operative question is how far would he go to get them?

Or get them through the internet either through seller or via kits.

Trump solution to school violence "Mass Shooting" is more guns to be carried by teachers in schools.

And to sweeten the deal, those teachers that carried guns will get bonus pay. Short of "Danger Pays" reserved for war declared zone.

When did teachers becomes security guards?

Genius, just genius ideas from our fearless leader.

Don?t forget he is a STABLE genius to boot , lol

But this numbskull has no idea that in all these shootings, they already had an armed guard. Going back , even Pulse had an armed guard. And Mandalay Bay had enough armed personnel to probably occupy France. And what was that ? Fort Hood ? wasn?t that a military base.

Sheesh .. let me walk all this back now .. lest be accused of spouting bigoted closeted broomstick (what was it now?)  talking points.

Why didn't anyone think of that?

"We have to look at the internet, because a lot of bad things are happening to young kids and young minds, and their minds are being formed, and we have to do something about maybe what they're seeing and how they're seeing it. And also video games," Trump said, according to pool reports.

"I'm hearing more and more people say the level of violence on video games is really shaping young people's thoughts. And you go one further step and that's the movies. ... maybe they have to put a rating system for that," he added.

PRESIDENT BONE SPUR!

President Trump on Monday claimed he would have run into a Florida high school to prevent a gunman from carrying out this month's mass shooting.

"I really believe I'd run in there even if I didn't have a weapon,? Trump told a gathering of governors at the White House.
