Prepare to get the shaft from the State of California

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
[quote author="freedomCM" date=1235043962][quote author="awgee" date=1235042656][quote author="no_vaseline" date=1234975160]I?m really draconian on the whole issue of kids. If you want to have kids, fine ? just don?t expect me to pay for them. Don?t go on welfare, and don?t expect my tax dollars to go to pay for their education. I didn?t create them, I don?t get the joy of having them, you shouldn?t ride on my checkbook to finance their upbringing. We should cut all tax breaks for children (earned income credit), and force parents to pay for schools.

GOPers love to talk about wealth redistribution. Thanks to Prop 98, 40% of the state budget goes to subsidizing kids. Kids are a tax on singles, childless couples (straight and gay) and the elderly. The luxury of public schools was great when we had the budget, but we don?t have it anymore, so we should stop transfer costing their existence onto those who had NOTHING to do with their fabrication. We enforce child support, and this is no different.

At least with illegal immigrants I get a crew to pick crops, do dishes and cook in restraunts, and mow my lawn. With kids I get a huge sponge of my hard earned resources, <em>and they aren?t even mine.</em></blockquote>

Have to agree with you No_V. My kids are my responsibility and I see no reason why you have to pay for them.</blockquote>

Think of it as very expensive insurance:

They will be less likely to be committing crimes, using UE/welfare, using healthcare, etc if they are at least somewhat educated.

In addition, they are more likely to pay into social security when you are retired, so you might get some of that.</blockquote>

No_V - I see no <strong>MORAL</strong> reason why you should have to pay for someone else's decisions and responsibility.

[quote author="Oscar" date=1235091662]Oh yes, let's open the door for primary manipulation by opposing political parties, that will fix everything.</blockquote>

Never underestimate the ability of the California voter to be short sighted and emotional.

We don't have nor will we have kids, but I dont mind paying taxes for education for all the reasons Freedom stated, plus if they are educated they will earn more and thus pay more taxes rather than be a drain on the tax payers

<a href="http://lansner.freedomblogging.com/2009/02/20/state-to-offer-new-home-buyers-10000-tax-credit/15279/">What the hell??</a> The state is screwed financially and I will be paying an extra $1.2k/yr in additional state taxes and where does the tax money go? Why to help someone else buy a new house no less. Me and about nine of my peers are going to kick-in $10k to help buy someone else a new house while we rent. Anything to continue to prop up artificially high home prices. Lovely.

We have two children, we both worked and paid heavily for after school program. There are no free or discount lunches. We paid over $ 15, 000 worth of federal taxes and still owe another $ 6K of taxes when we do file this year.

I am at a point where I just want to quit my job, and seek out every single government programs available, like housing or section 8, foods stamp, welfare, free day care, WIC (except I don't want to have any more kids, so can't benefit this program), free insurance for we are currently paying $ 400 a month through our company for the family. Then when my kids turn 18 and goes to College they can benefit financial aids and grant!!!!!

It costs the taxpayer of California roughly $16,500 a year to keep your two kids in public schools. With no offense intended, you are not paying a $16,500 surcharge in California state taxes to offset the expense your children present the taxpayer. It may not feel like it, but you are getting your children subsidized because you are receiving $16,500 a year in benefits for your children at no direct cost to you.

John and Ken are idiots.

Not if her kids go to private schools (yes, I understand they don't). Where does all of that money go? The school district doesn't get it.

The school doesn't get it.... all the money the school gets is based on attendence. The money comes in and must go back out if count goes down.

Just as a side note... i DID get a return from the state.

cool :ahhh: :coolsmirk:

<strong>How California Became France Unable to afford a welfare state and unable to reform it.

By MATTHEW KAMINSKI

Sacramento, Calif</strong>

<blockquote>Neither side won with this deal, to which the one good alternative would be a time machine to take Sacramento's political class back five years and do it right then. In the event, Republicans split, and signed off on $14.5 billion in new taxes and a less than airtight spending cap. State personnel reductions are minimal, as well, further infuriating their base. The Democrats swallowed $15 billion in spending cuts, which unions vow to fight.

California is in a French-like bind: unable to afford a welfare-type state, and unable to overhaul it. "The people say they want all these programs, then there's nothing they want to pay for," says Hector De La Torre, a Democratic assemblyman. "The schizophrenia in the legislature reflects the peoples'."</blockquote>

I was unsure about the comparisions to France, but after reading the article, the author makes a compelling argument. While I may disagree with his angle, he's pretty close on the rest of it. The best editorial article on what the issues facing CA are, with minimal spin.

Bix is correct. The state allocates students based on attendance. If your kid goes to public school, you get the subsidy. If your kid doesn't because he's sick or goes to private school, they do not get reimbursed. This is why they make a big push for school attendance.

And all this time I thought it was edeucat the little critters. ;-P

A secondary goal I'm sure.
