?Dirty ol? coal? is making a comeback and consumption is expected to return to 2013?s record levels

?        Coal prices are soaring and global coal consumption is expected to return to record levels reached almost 10 years ago as the global energy supply crunch continues.

?        While investors in coal stocks are having a field day thanks to high coal prices, curbs on carbon emissions are taking a backseat as markets and governments scramble to stock up on traditional energy supply amid bottlenecks caused by the Ukraine war, analysts say.

?        Worse, slowing investments in new coal-powered energy facilities have tightened the supply of coal even further, Shaw and Partners senior analyst Peter O?Connor told ?Squawk Box Asia? on Friday.

It's helping a lot of poor foreign coal workers in places like Colombia - happy for them

Was in Fullerton the other day driving up Harbor and there was this ridiculous line of cars in the right lane... when I finally get closer I realize it was actually a dedicated lane for Costco gas.

The ironic thing was they were charging $4.65/gal but just up the road, there was an Arco that was almost completely empty... their cost? $4.79/gal. Even for a 20-gal tank, that's less than $3 savings... is it really worth that 30 minutes in line... and you're probably wasting gas idling in that line.

That Costco gas line always serves as a reminder of how many people are living check to check. I assume you wouldn?t spend 30 minutes in a gas line to save $3/week unless you absolutely had to. The interesting part is that you do see a lot of nice cars in those long as gas lines, which always makes me wonder if they can afford that car in the first place.

That's the additional irony. Add to that the fact that to be a Costco member you also have that additional cost.

It's just the perception of saving money.

I know a few people who make tons of money but still gassed up at Costco. Their solution? Instead of buying a moderately priced EV, they got one that's over $100k... hah.

I guess since you paid for membership, you would have to "take advantage" of it.  ;D

Meh.  I'm in that line but it's part of the routine.  Drop the wife off so she can start shopping, and I go fill up.  I've timed it when I was in the longest line I've ever been in, and it was a grand total of 14 minutes in and out.  Sure, maybe still not worth $3 if time was the only factor, but I'm there anyway till the shopping's done, and part of it is I'm more confident in what I'm getting.  Costco is known for maintaining their equipment and tanks to high standards on strict maintenance schedules, and their gas is toptier rated.  The station across the street that's often the same price or even a penny cheaper sometimes...is a bit more opaque in what they're selling and a lot dirtier in appearance.

I find it funny that people in general complain about how long it takes to get cheap gas...after spending 1-2 hours commuting every day!  I feel like I'm better off spending 14 minutes filling up less than 1x a month, and commuting 12 minutes each way.

If you're only filling up once a month... don't really need to seek out a Costco... unless of course you're dropping your wife off first. :)

I'm just not sure why more people don't go off-peak at Costco... seems like everyone is lining up at lunch or after work. It's the same reason why I don't eat out during high times... the less crowded the better.

I went to Spectrum Costco around 3pm last time and just pulled up to the pump. Next time I know when to go.  ;D

Gas has gone up a full dollar in the span of one month due to "unexpected" refinery maintenance. sketchy as hell.

More like $1.30-$1.40 now.

This Monday, my wife filled up gas at Eastvale Costco at $5.29. Today it's $5.85. A couple of weeks ago, it was $4.85. Oil price hasn't been this low for months. Last time gas was $5.85, oil was around $110. Fishy as hell.
