NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

If economy is the real topic , why are republican politicians running away from it

The focus is squarely back on scare tactics , immigration , Supreme Court and other social issues

Because this is what really gets the vote out and wins Reps contested elections.

Let's cut welfare for old folks. They've voted for it. They deserve to reap what they've sown. Get Big Guv out of their lives. They want freedom, not handouts!

Neither party knows what to do with SSI and no one is going to kick old folks to the curb.

Perhaps to reframe the SSI discussion what does this group think would work to support SSI given it's so near the tipping point (fewer contributors vs number of recipients)  How would you solve SSI? I'll go first:

1) No one anyone 10 years old or younger will have SSI. Contributions by this generation would continue, capped at 1% or so.

2) Anyone newly receiving SSI with a net worth over $3m gets only what they paid in, plus a 2% annual rate of return on their funds since contributing. The $$$ their employers paid in would be sopped up by present retirees.

3) Lifespans have lengthened. A 65 early receipt, 70 full is reasonable. Yes, this would impact me, but everyone needs to burden share.

4) Some kind of financial services tax needs to be constructed to take care of the remaining commitments.

So what would you do, besides screaming that granny is getting thrown out on her behind by them evil MAGA types?

Well, Paul Ryan has specific plans to cut SSI and Medicare, and many Dems have plans to tax the "rich" more to cover this shortfall.

Your proposals are reasonable, but you can already hear the screaming for each.

Net worth caps will get the Reps screaming. One certain argument is the tired fictional farmer trope - "But just because the farm land could be sold for $3M doesn't mean any income is generated for these folks to live!"

Raising the age will get the Dems screaming because affluent folks lead longer healthier lives AND can afford to delay receipt of SSI. Broke folks lead shorter lives, and engage in labor that breaks their bodies down more quickly, and they'll be most adversely affected by a few years delay.

Good luck taxing financial services!

Considering something like ~80% of our healthcare costs are related to end of life care, we need more palliative care and less life extension care - Yes, DEATH PANELS!  :o

Solutions are there. Entrenched extremists will ruin reasonable compromise.

I think it should been talked about versus thanks for voting for our party. But I think we are going to cut your benefits.

If you complain about it. We will label you as an angry mob. Lol

My personal financial plan has always assumed that social security would not exist when I am eligible. I have always told clients, plan your retirement with the assumption it won?t be there or you will be deemed ineligible for whatever reason. I have never anticipated it?s long term viability. If I get any I will see it as gravy, nothing more.

thanks for the senate seat!

Heitkamp apologizes for naming sexual assault, abuse victims in newspaper ad

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, a Democrat from North Dakota, apologized Tuesday after publicly naming victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in an attack ad aimed at her Republican challenger -- this, after some of the women said they did not give permission for the campaign to name them, and others said they'd never experienced abuse.

Heitkamp released a statement apologizing for the gaffe.

?We recently discovered that several of the women?s names who were provided to us did not authorize their names to be shared or were not survivors of abuse,? her statement read. ?I deeply regret this mistake and we are in the process of issuing a retraction, personally apologizing to each of the people impacted by this and taking the necessary steps to ensure this never happens again.?

Most women who were erroneously included on the list had a mutual friend who supported the open letter, Beck said. But she said she never gave  permission to add her name and ?didn?t even click the link? to open the letter at first.

?I?m angry. Everyone has a story and they should be able to be the person to tell it if they choose to,? Beck said.

Despite Heitkamp's assertion that she was reaching out out to those affected by the ad, Beck said the campaign had not contacted her to apologize.

She said she personally reached out to her campaign but didn't receive a call back.

Lexi Zhorela, 24, told The Associated Press she was listed in the ad because she had been tagged on Facebook by a friend who knew she had been the victim of sexual assault. "I'm furious," she said. "I have only shared my story with a couple of people in confidence. ... I didn't want it blasted for the world to see."

Zhorela said she'd intended to vote for Heitkamp in November but will "definitely not now."

After discovering her name listed on the ad, another woman, Kady Miller, wrote on Facebook: ?I don?t even support Heidi Heitkamp and I am not a domestic abuse survivor. Should this even be legal??? The Washington Post reported.

She Ruined Our Lives: Women Mistakenly Outed As Sexual Assault Survivors By Heitkamp Could Slap Her With Lawsuit

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), who is a vulnerable red state Democrat running for re-election, made what some are calling a ?category five blunder? by releasing an open letter that mistakenly identified survivors of sexual assault without their consent or knowledge.

Of course, the Heitkamp campaign issued an apology, but the damage has been done. Now, some of the women are seeking a lawyer and could slap Heitkamp with a lawsuit. Rob Port of Say Anything, a North Dakota-based blog, said there are 22 women in the group that's considering taking legal action.

Nope, I don't plan on getting a penny. That program is doomed one way or another.  If I do thats cool but my family will still be taken care of regardless.  Besides and extra $1600 a month won't really make a dif to me or them anyway.

I've planned mine the same way.  I'm assuming that I'll eventually get denied via a means test, the goal post will be moved (full retirement 70, etc) and/or that the benefits will be reduced

I strive to not be the average american and my clientele certainly aren't either.  I don't see this as a team sport, you eat what you kill, everyone else is on their own. It's why I hate it when others take advantage of the system or are lazy. Like I said, I don't expect to get anything but I am also OK with paying into it to support the promises made to my mother, she deserves what she was promised, she and her generation didn't know any better. .  The rest of us are screwed and if you don't believe that, you need to pull your head out of the ground and start looking out for your own.

Cmon Eye...you know I don't care. I've said it a hundred times here.  I think they all are douche bags, mine just spout more of my beliefs so I show them support.

Step 1: Be rich
Step 2: Don't be poor

The "man on the street" interviews destroy all faith in democracy, no? It certainly is the worst form of government, but for all the others.

All Republicans support people with pre-existing conditions, and if they don?t, they will after I speak to them. I am in total support. Also, Democrats will destroy your Medicare, and I will keep it healthy and well!
