Hey look at the bright side -- at-least no one is targeting a pizza shop with guns over some crazy Fox News conspiracy theory on Clinton and pedophilia

Hilariously enough the people on the ceiling over Sanders having to drive another block away to eat a nice dinner are the people who cant shut up for five minutes about how America's gone soft : )

and the same people who called for diversity training at all starbucks stores 2 weeks ago for kicking out non-paying customers are now calling for trump supporters as paying customers to be kicked out and harassed  :D

If that's what you got out of the Starbuck's situation...actually that's exactly what I expected from what you would take out of the Starbuck's situation.

Done wonders for the stock...collapsed 12% year to date, almost all from the date of their little re-education camp.

Calling the cops on black customers because they are black is not the same as politely telling a "propaganda minister for sociopaths" to go eat elsewhere

High officials in a regime run by a sociopath are not protected class

As I said before , it is actually a very encouraging sign that Sanders was judged by her actions and character and not the color of her skin or her sexual inclination

Trump supporters perpetually want to remain the victim, even when they are millionaires and in control of nearly boundless power

Bring it!!! You want to look insane? This is how to do it.

Resist too far? Pelosi tries to tamp down progressives' public shaming of Trump officials

The recent public shaming of Trump administration officials in restaurants has triggered an internal debate among Democrats over how far they should go in confronting the president and his policies.

The boisterous protests against Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Trump advisor Stephen Miller as they dined in different Mexican restaurants, and the ejection of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders by the owner of a Virginia eatery, caused some Democrats to embrace the strategy as an effective way to rally supporters and hold officials responsible.

Pelosi urged caution Monday about expanding the protests against Trump Cabinet members beyond official events. Linking to an article about Waters? comments, Pelosi took to Twitter to urge civility.

?Trump?s daily lack of civility has provoked responses that are predictable but unacceptable. As we go forward, we must conduct elections in a way that achieves unity from sea to shining sea," she said.

Other high-profile Democrats, like former Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod, called it counter-productive.

?Disgusted with this admin?s policies? Organize, donate, volunteer, VOTE! Rousting Cabinet members from restaurants is an empty and, ultimately, counter-productive gesture that won?t change a thing,? he said in a tweet.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer of New York went even further on the Senate floor Monday, saying that copying the president?s abusive tactics isn?t the answer.

"No one should call for the harassment of political opponents. That's not right. That's not American," he said. ?The president's tactics and behavior should never be emulated. It should be repudiated by organized, well informed and passionate advocacy."

This restaurant thing is dumb.

I agree that what the restaurant owner did is not the same than judging someone based on their race, but they are still an asshole. Not a good look, and gives fox news easy fodder for some anti-liberal outrage .

Either way, this is an event better suited to reality TV than national news.

Trump promised a hardline immigration stance, and now we have hardline immigration enforcement. Completely expected, and not something I would expect to change opinions one way or the other. People against him will hate it, people for him will love it. I guess we will see in a few weeks though if those approval numbers change.

both side-ism doesn't work here ... on one hand you have bald racism and on the other hand maybe rudeness -- although some one go check with that evangelical baker who turned away the gay couple

Trump 2020 campaign manager: 60 percent of Minnesota rally crowd was Democratic, independent

President Trump?s 2020 re-election campaign manager Brad Parscale said the rally in Minnesota last week was attended by 60 percent Democrats and independents.

Parscale said that the influx in non-Republican attendees was due to the ?positive results? they have seen in America from the Trump administration?s policies.

?The crowd at the Minnesota rally was 60% Democrat and Independent,? Parscale posted to Twitter on Tuesday. ?America is seeing the positive results of a @realDonaldTrump administration regardless of party. #MAGA?

I agree, just saying pragmatically this restaurant owner accomplishes nothing but to give fodder to fox news. Would have been more effective to heed the advice on her sign.

yes, but on that point about giving fodder to fox news, I don't believe for a second that civility will stop them.  for all of Obamas' flaws they were an utterly decent family.  didn't stop fox news from painting him as the anti Christ.
Christ, fox had a whole segment on Obama denigrating the oval office by wearing a tan suit : )

And he will probably get it

The theft of Merrick Garland?s Supreme Court seat is legitimately the greatest heist in world history :) and now we will see the consequences

All the right wingers gloating like little kids here think they are safe from all this given it only affects poor / brown people . But this is how fascism starts .  There is more to life than deregulation and tax cuts . Once rule of law starts eroding asset prices go down too .

A little alarmist....

The Supreme Court thing is BS, but that's politics not destruction of democracy.

That article makes it sound like Trump wants to crack down on people entering rather than crack down after their entry, which requires due process. A bit of a jump to say that means 'ending due process'.

and it's going to be great when trump steals 2 more seats over the next 6.5 years

The Supreme Court  theft was handiwork of Mitch McConnell -- that is what playing "civility" got Democrats.  They still haven't learned how to fight fire with fire and not cower behind their relatively safe seats every time Fox News or right wing echo chamber makes any level of threatening noise.

Trump is too much of a doofus to make any plans, let alone the next 6.5 years.

Ultimately this country's social fabric will start to tear as minority rule (by 25-30% of the population) endures and the gap between the popular vote versus the actual power structure widens

Either via fake electoral maps which keep putting GOP in power, lopsided Supreme Court and federal benches,  tiny states with 10x the political clout than they have population, etc etc.  Something will have to give and this Red Hen episode is just the preview of whats to come ...

Do you actually realize they can technically strip citizenship without offering due process ?  Oh, how bad can that be -- I was born here, so what do I care .

I think it is instructive to look at what happened in Philippines under Ferdinand Marcos (if any Filipino-Americans know more than me, a layman on this topic , please chime in here) --

Marcos' greatest trick was convincing people that all protestors were communist animals, so when went missing, few cared. Even after bodies were discovered

The establishment people and journalists talking about being "civil" ? They were the rich people who knew they won't be affected by many of Marcos' policies and therefore could ignore them even as the killings started

He was very  adept at convincing regular Filipinos that "as long as you dont commit crimes I won't come for you, I am only getting rid of the "filth" . He was lying of course as he jailed his most vocal opponents, people whose businesses he wanted to confiscate for his own use.

Filipinos were very susceptible to strongman personalities, just like today's Republicans

Marcos kept pushing - first it was all protestors were communists. then it was the free press .  then it was "bad businesses".  then anyone who looked at his family askance. And every step of the way there were people twittering on about being civil - SURELY Marcos wouldn't go that far, the economy is flourishing, surely it cant be that bad now, can it .

"It didnt happen to ME, so it must not be bad " -- right up until Martial Law

So here we are again , shifting goalposts and enabling all the gaslighting , even if inadvertently.
