Mac or PC ?

<p>Sarge - I think I get the top menu using firefox or you can use html code for new paragraphs and italicizing and stuff. How do you like the 20"? Have you figured out how to substitute for not having a right click on the mouse. I know there is a way, but I am ignorant so far. Anybody?</p>

<p>T!m - control-click? What is control-click?</p>

<p>But, I like my MAC mouse. Can't I have my cake and eat it too?</p>

awgee- control-click means to hold down the control (ctrl) button on the keyboard when clicking the mouse. Also, it is Mac, not MAC.

<p><em>So it's not just that Mac guy in the "Get a Mac" ads who thinks he's better than everyone else. Apparently so do many of the people who use Apple's computers.</em></p>

<p><em><a target="_blank" href="http://adage.com/article.php?article_id=123350">Research from internet ad network Mindset Media</a> confirms the ad's personification of Mac users as superior and self-satisfied. Its recent Mac user "mind-set profile" -- a psychographic ranking system that scores respondents on 20 different elements of personality -- found them to be more assured of their superiority, less modest and more open than the general population. </em></p>

<p><em></em></p>

The newer mice that come with apple desktops should allow you to just click in the vicinity of the right side of the mouse. The OS will detect that you wanted to right-click and operate as such. Aesthetically the mouse still looks like a single button mouse but it's not.

<p>ok, my cat must have stepped on my keyboard when I wasn't looking, because now my Mac is talking to me. Everytime I put my cursor over something, it verbally announces what it is...very annoying and I can't figure out how to turn it off. I'm sure it's some shortcut that the cats paws created by stepping on the keyboard....anyone....help ! </p>

<p>Also having a tough time figuring out Firefox. I like it, but it's a whole different animal. How do I delete bookmarks and open multiple tabs ? ISM ?</p>

<p> </p>

Trooper, I'm not sure if Firefox on a Mac works the same as on Windows, but you can open a new tab by hitting CTRL-T. (Firefox may substitute the Apple button in place of CTRL) You can delete a bookmark by right clicking on the bookmark you want to delete, then left clicking on DELETE in the context sensitive menu.

Trooper, try this.

Open the <strong>applications folder</strong> > Open <strong>system prefences </strong>> Click <strong>speech</strong>

Make everything is unchecked. I think that is it...

I have my system preferences in my dock for easy access.

<p>ok, I'm on my PC right now so I'll try these things when I get home. Winex, I don't have a right click button....when I attempt to feign a right click, it opens the bookmark page.</p>

<p>WoelsMe, I think I fiddled with the speech thing last night....it appears to only be for when you want to add voice activated commands, but again, I'll recheck tonight. </p>

there are two tabs in the speech window, <em>speech recognition</em> is the one you are referring too, the other is <em>text to speech, </em>that's the one me thinks... It might be different if you are running leopard. I tried to simulate your problem myself, couldn't do it, I'm running tiger.

The bookmark thing, either, control+click the bookmark > delete (actually, this only works for the bookmarks in the toolbar of the browers window) <em>or</em> in the Firefox toolbar under bookmarks > organize bookmarks.

Tropper, Found it...

Command-F5 > Turn VoiceOver on or off (Mac OS X 10.4 or later)

You're right, that is very annoying!

You might want to have a sit down with your cat. Left paw on command, right paw on F5 at the same time!? C'mon!

<p>omg Woels....thank you so much. I tried for over an hour to fix that last night. Hey, this might be a good joke to play on your Mac buddies ;)</p>

<p>I owe you a beer. </p>

So how do you like your iMac? I recently bought one for my girlfriend and she loves it.

Since it was her birthday, I convinced a couple of people to chip in and also get her an iPhone.
