Mexicans are my homeboys from my Barrios. One of these days I should take you to the best hole in the wall restaurants in East Los Angeles and Boyles Heights. Try to remember this my amigo, without drawing nutrients from your root new growth will not sustain itself.  If you want to be a strong tree take care of your roots. You will be surprised that the sharpest weapon or person is not found in Irvine.

Im always up for some good mexican. Just let me know. Irvine doesnt have restaurants that measure up to mom's home cooking.

We may have another honorary mexican on our hands  :)

I love Mexican food, but I have to admit I'm a sellout, I like Mexican food at places like Javier's on PCH.
I really liked the one in the Spectrum but something change in their recipes about a year or two ago (around the same time they changed their chips from the thin ones to the thicker ones). They have changed the chips back... but some of their food just isn't as good as it used to be (not sure how it is at PCH).

I'm a sellout in the other direction... I love Alberto's/Alberta's/Albertaco's/Alerto's/Albatross or whatever those copycats call themselves... 3 rolled tacos or chips with carne asada all day (and to my early grave).

Costa Mesa - I like Taco Mesa. I know it is a mini-chain, but the chili verde burrito is ridiculous + guaranteed to fill up anyone.

I haven't tried the shredded beef burrito at SuperMex, I was a bit underwhelmed by their tacos, but willing to go back.

I don't want to insult you guys but I will do it anyway. You are all a product of cookie cutter and chain restaurant culture what do you really know about the best tacos? You guy don't even dare driving over the 55 fwy or let alone really immerse into the real ethnic culture. Your experience of Mexican foods is a caricature of what decided by the corporate laboratory.

So here is the list of the places I would recommend you to pay a visit  at least once in your lifetime but be sure to wear your bullet proof vest because I don't want to smell your sweat while I am enjoying the Catalina view from Indie's private beach.

Taco El Korita in East Los Angeles
El Chato in Mid City LA
Alebrije's in Santa Ana between Sycamore and Main

I doubt any of you have the bravery to go to any of these cities so
El Toro Bravo on 19th st in Costa Mesa is a long distance second best.

King Taco is probably the best Mexican joint.

I also really like Alertos on Brookhurst/Mcfadden and the other one in FV on Brookhursts between Slater and Warner by the KFC.  They have really good Carne Asada!

Haven't been to any of those but I do like the Carne Asada Tortas at Cancun Juice in Santa Ana.  Yes, it is a chain.

That's the one I used to go to before they opened an Al*b*erto's in Santa Ana off of Edinger/Grand. Used to be a Weinerdude and then a different mexican place.

Next time I go to the FV one... maybe I'll get some donuts too.  :P

Let me know ahead of time and I'll have a dozen prepared.

Not bad, I do Eat there sometimes but you will love Alebrije's.

The king Tacos is a chain started on East Los Angeles on Soto street. The owner became wealthy and lives in Newport Coast. He brought his chains to OC but he has long forgotten his root. Alberto's  and the knock offs were originally highway road side stops and moved to the rich suburbs. Both are average and coporate run. Chain culture efficiency compromises on quality.

I think they refer the largest floor plans as "villas", where you can have dual residences on the same lot. Some of these will have views, hence the Hill. So the website is correct.

The Grove are the smaller ones, or referred to as "estates".

And then there are the smallest floor plans, referred as "cottages".

So you have Villas > Estates > Cottages, or The Hill > The Grove > The Field accordingly.

Stole from annabanana from the first page:
The Homes
? Planned for 169 single?family homes ? 65 Cottages, 46 Villas, 58 Estates
? Lots expected to range from 4,250 to 6,900 square feet
? Homes expected to range from 2,850 to 4,350 square feet
? 29 Villas will be constructed on ?Lambert Hill,? an area of the property terraced up to 120 feet
above flat portions of the site. These homes will create an elite collection of homes with views
of the Ocean and Catalina Island, Irvine Valley, Saddleback Mountains.

Still no floor plans, unfortunately.

Looks like they've made a mistake on the square footage descriptions on the website, swapping the SF totals from "The Grove" and "The Hill".

From the descriptions I see, "The Grove" would be the estate lots at over 4,000SF.  "The Hill" would be the somewhat smaller homes and "The Field" homes being the smallest (indicated correctly on the web site).

It looks like the website has now been corrected with the square footage as I originally indicated...  As far as total square footage, "The Grove" > "The Hill" > "The Field".

I find it interesting that The New Home Company chose that the homes with the best views will not necessarily be the largest.  I wonder how that will impact overall pricing...

Good detective work. So we also have TNHC lurkers on this board (Megan??) in addition to TIC lurkers. Perhaps the Hill homes have smaller size so they can build more view homes to get more $$$.

If You were a developer building right at the beach sand would you do 50 narrow lots or 30 wide lots?

If you are cutting into the hill knowing that you only get 3 tiers and would you make the lot depth deeper to make the house bigger but run out of room to make the last tier?

This is why the beach lots and view lots are always small.

Im always looking for a place that has Carne Asada fries, nothing better than fries, finely chopped up carne asada and nacho cheese sauce. The best i have found is in El Cajon, on Second street.

I love carne asada fries and the associated "California burrito." Apparently they are big in San Diego but hard to find in OC. Where is this El Cajon place...2nd Street where?
