Kitchen Cabinets

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Finally pulled the trigger and went for just painting the cabinets.  About $2400 otd and we can pick any color.  Went with standard Swiss coffee white in kitchen and bath except for Industrial Age grey in our master bath cabs.  So far so good and the ugly mismatched maple is gone.  Post some pics later when qwerty's cousin's leave.

Yup, we'll see how it holds up, looks good now.....  One of the crew he hired for this job was his first time.  Some sloppy stuff, and he dropped like 3 deuces in my bathroom over 2 days.  He must have IBS.  also noticed my brick paver stones got paint splashes outside, guess they were using it as a table for painting the cabinets.  James said he'll clean it up, he's responsible as usual, and that's pretty impressive for any contractor.

Interesting... why not?

It's not like ps9 spend $20k... just around $1500 (I'm subtracting for the master bath work).

Well it all depends in the price range your house is. Also, I can get a new kitchen for less than $20k. (Cabinets and countertops)

My other thought, he might sell his house soon or something. (From reading his posts - as he is looking around) If I was in his shoes, I would not rehab the kitchen especially when the house is in the $900k-$1 mil range. (guessing on the value of his home)

I was just thinking, it may work if it get sanded and the painted doors matches the cabinets.

Another idea, is to get brand new cabinet doors.

I'm always looking for a new house :)

That aside, painting the cabs was a risk, they might not last, but a temporary solution and doesn't cost arm/leg.  If I get 3-4 years out of it, I'll be happy and my eyes will too.  They took all doors off, sanded it, primed it, then sprayed it outside in my yard.  They also sprayed the trim inside the cabs as well.  A lot of work for $2500 in my opinion, took 3.5 guys and about 2&1/2 days worth of work.  It seems harder than painting walls.

Much harder than painting walls... when they did the kitchen I asked them how much to paint the joining family/great room and it was only a few hundred more and it only added a few hours to work time.

And the home I'm talking about, we actually painted the cabinets to sell it. It was that maple color and really dated it. We painted them white, which made the white appliances actually not stick out and the kitchen looked much bigger and updated (despite the non-granite countertops). I think we paid just over $1k to do that and considering we got more than that over that last list price... seemed like a good move.

Didn't want to put too much into the house in case wife green lights BP.  Plus we ended up selecting the same cabs, wife didn't like the simple shakers, so painting it was the obvious choice.

Here are the pics of our master bath cabs being painted Dunn Edwards 'Industrial Age' Gloss

So nice to finally get rid of the ugly yellow maple.

If you want to see grey kitchen cabs, IKEA has that kitchen setup on their floor display with a white Quartz countertop.  Kinda liking it, except it'll be for the bathroom.  Grey cabinets at eye level is still too much for me.

Yeah... still on the fence about grey cabs in the kitchen but in the master bath (or any bathroom) is a good choice.

So are going to loft it up soon?

Looks like you have tile countertops?

@IHO

Lofting has been vetoed, I love my high ceilings, it'll be a shame to cover it up.

@eyephone

Yup, builder grade ugliness, at least they're durable and still white after 15+ years.  If BP doesn't work out, we're gonna replace with probably white quartz.

we redid our countertops in the master with prefab quartz. 800 for each vanity for materials and labor. it looks so much nicer.
