Irvine is not rich

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program

Very funny the conversation on Crystal Cove. We were just there yesterday at the home of a mixed Asian/Caucasian family for a kid play date.....That family just moved here from back east and bought in CCove without knowing a lot about the area. Our talk turned to schools as both our daughters are approaching Kindergarten. To say they are gravely concerned about the Laguna School District would be an understatement. They quizzed me on my knowledge of the Irvine schools, and what I knew of private schools nearby. Although they did not come right out and say it, I get the sense if they knew then what they know now, they would have picked Shady or TR.

Can I just say, however, that has to be one of the most fabulous neigborhoods I have ever seen!! Forget the prices for a minute, what a great job they did there.

Ok again the Rich Asians are buying Irvine.

Historically immigrants move in close proximity to each other. Not Just Asians It has been Irish, Italian, and Korean etc. It gives immigrants a sense of community and it makes assimilation more of a transition.

So there is an Asian population in Irvine but overall they only represent 15.9% of the total population of OC. I would assume not all 16% are rich..; I see some Asians working in less then high paying jobs..; So I will assume not all are rich. The 16% takes into consideration the total population not just home buyers..; There are children and couples included so not all 16% will be buying a home..; I

t could be more like 4-8%..; So now 4-8% of the of Asians will be buying homes..; I haven't seen the break down of Asian median income in Orange so I can't even venture a guess as to what the increased earning potential of being Asian is..; If I went with 75% of Asians in OC are rich that leaves 3-6% or the population in OC left to buy the homes in Irvine. Now lets just say that 75% of the Asians that do not live in Irvine will move there..; That is a pretty high rate I think..; I mean if you own a home somewhere else are you just up and moving to Irvine?.; 2.25-4.5% of the total population of OC filling up Irvine. So now again we have Irvine covered by this stereotype what about the other 1m plus housing in OC. In 2005 Yorba Linda had the highest median family income at 121k. Most Cites hovered a little above the 60k mark in OC..

CK -

But aren't they glad they have a fabulous ocean view?

I love Crystal Cove too and can't wait until Laing opens another community next month.

LL -- Oh yeah, they love that area, no doubt about that. We drove up to the new custom models all the way at the top (I forget the name of them) when we were leaving. Absolutely breathtaking. Were too intimidated to park the Accord outside the models and go in though. So we drove down to Columbus Grove and toured something a little more our speed.

CK -

You're so funny! I have to admit - I do feel a little better when taking the Lexus up to look at the models in CC then when I've taken my Accord up there!

BK -

No!!!! I wanted to see different floorplans!

La Cima = Lucia (in Talega)

And now... Crystal Cove, too?

The designer who designed the original La Cima Plans left Robert Hidey several years ago . All they can do is to milk it to death. Don't expect any thing creative coming out from that firm. His glorious days are over.

Well off Asians like to live in rich neighborhoods that are close to asian stores - i.e. Irvine. Rich Asians prefer prestigious and reputable areas - i.e. Villa Park and Newport Coast. A lot of Asians move to Irvine over Huntington Beach because the homes in Irvine are newer/nicer looking. The Asians care less for the fun, the sun, and the beach. And the reason why the Irvine School District is so reputable is because of the influx of Asian students. For instance, although Asians only make up 30% of Irvine residents, half of the students in the Irvine schools are Asians. The truly wealthy Asians would choose Newport Coast over Balboa. Once again, they care more about the quality of the homes than the social environment. IMO, Caucausions care more about the lifestyle and head towards the coast. Asians, on the other hand, are more materialistic and prefer the bigger/newer homes. That's why the newer developments are so alluring to the Asian buyers. And Asians tend to allocate more of their income into buying a home than going out or traveling. That's why there's no nightlife in Irvine, but there are plenty in Huntington Beach.

Pioneer Middle School just started their semester. The population of Asian students at Pioneer is 65%. I agree with you totally. Caucasians are into the romance and lifestyle of a community while the Asians are into the practicality and convenience of a community. Asians buy things that go into the kitchen pantry while Caucasians buy toys that hang in the garage. Older communities like Old Town Orange, Floral Park, downtown Fullerton and Anaheim attract mostly Caucasians instead of Asians. Asians are way too practical and not into aesthetic.

Caucasians see backyard as a place for kids and outdoor gathering. Asians see the backyard as maintenance burden and a place to fry fish instead of the kitchen. Caucasian like to look of a front yard curb appeal while the Chinese like to get another driveway spot out of it. Caucasians like mature trees while Chinese see them as habitat for unwanted insects. Caucasians like trees that flower and Chinese prefer to eat fruits from a tree. Caucasian like candles and romantic incandescent mood lighting Chinese think candles are fire hazardous and florescent lighting is better for the eyes and energy efficiency. Caucasians like the latest linen ensemble from Restoration Hardware and Chinese shop linen from Ross and TJ Maxx. Caucasians like restaurants with dim lighting and Chinese like restaurants with dim sum.

Caucasians like sports that potentially break an arm or a leg or both. Chinese like Sports that do not require a trip to the ER like Ping Pong and Badminton. Caucasian kids like to do dare devil tricks with bike and skate boards while Chinese kids do the same trick on their Sony Play Stations. Caucasian parents send their kids to Tae kwon Do classes to learn self defense incase of confrontation by school bullies. Asians teach their kids to kick the school bullies’ butt on the exams without confrontation. Asians then rip off the Caucasian parents calling those martial arts classes as discipline control classes for their kids.

Why don't the rich, smart Asians just rent in the neighborhood they want to live in, like all the other rich, smart people do?

IAC will evict them for cooking with shrimp paste. They want to control their destiny. In the Chinese culture owning a business and a house is a sign of success. Being a landlord is a huge success. It is hard to change the cultural influence. Being on welfare and relying on social services are shameful so Very few Asians ask for governmental assistance. The family would work long hours and earn an honest living than to take any hand out.

I like all of the profiling and stereotyping, being backed up by research. I feel like bk could do a really interesting and informative stand-up routine. Bk, any lean towards comedy?

how much is the next Laing development in Crystal Cove? what is the least expensive development in Crystal Cove? How many models are there, are they open every day so I can check it out without worrying that the guard will turn me away? How do I get there from Irvine?

Fumbling -

The models are open everyday, so the guard should not turn you away. They're usually open 10 AM to 5 PM.

There's a party at The Tides this Thursday (if I remembered correctly) evening.

I think there are some developments starting in the low $3 Millions right now.

I was at... I think Pottery Barn by South Coast Plaza and saw a bed & linen set with some Asian flower design printed on the sheets. The linen was average quality IMO but they charge $200+ for just the sheets?? When I saw the tag I did a double take, someone had named the sheet set "bento". Who in their right mind would name bed linens after a lunch box?

For those who don't understand Japanese... google "Bento" and click on the image results.

I'm going to guess they're not marketing to Asians. Personally I like the style, but not the price.

As for frying shrimp in the backyard... I don't have a backyard but have seriously considered buying a grill with side burner for my patio. Only crazy Americans would design a house without exhaust vent through the roof for the kitchen hood. Mine sucks up smoke and blows it right back in my face.
