Just thought I'd recap on the estimates I got since Orlando's Painting finally got back to me today.  I was surprised that Orlando's Painting charged the most since they are the most Mom & Pop of all these operations.

From the MOST expensive painter to the LEAST expensive:

Orlando's Painting - Most expensive

Certa Pro

Xenak

3 High Painting

Perfect Painting

Irvine Pacific Builder -  Least expensive, but only uses flat paint

Does VOC matter if the painting is happening while the place is vacant?

In the past the answer would be yes, because paint was oil-based.  However all paint is water-based as of 2014 so as long as it's LOW VOC it should be fine.

Paint is the most toxic when it's wet.  Once it dries it doesn't really matter anymore.

I even visited Dunn Edwards with my kids and asked their consultant if I should invest in Zero-VOC just for them.  Her answer was that the Suprema (LOW-VOC) line is good enough with the current technology in paint.

I was surprised at the answer because I was expecting them to push for their most expensive paint line - Dunn Edwards Zero-VOC Self Priming Everest.

Just keep the doors and windows open while the paint is drying and all should be well.  But don't go out of your way now to buy HIGH VOC paint to prove me wrong  ;)

So is it still Perfect Painting or are you going to surprise us again and go with Orlando's?

Once I've signed on the dotted line it's a done deal. I have no interest in paying close to $4K to paint a 2K square feet house with Orlando's.  And I didn't even requests quotes about the closet and pantry deletes with their initial estimate either.

There is a free drop off for paint and hazardous materials over at the Construction Circle just north of Barranca and east of Jamboree... at least it was free the last time I dropped off a few cans of paint.
I'm not sure but I think I may have mixed up my drop off areas. I still think there is one off Construction Circle but there is another near Sand Canyon and south of the 5, next to the Irvine Animal Shelter adjacent to the dog park.

I dropped off some electronics there and it's free as long as:

1. Resident of Orange County (so not just Irvine)
2. Paint is no more than 25 gallons per drop-off
3. Electronics is not more than 125 lbs

This place is closer to WB/SG/CV/PP... although some people might use that as a reason NOT to buy there. :)

Mr. Zerolot didn't want to spend money buying paint samples NOR spend money on a color consultant.  My interior in the house now looks like a giant peach.

Lesson of the Day - do a test swatch before painting and don't let ANYONE talk you out of that test swatch.

Let the paint settle a bit... has it been a few days?  We painted our walls Inside Passage and it was yellow when we first walked thru after painting.. few days later it's more brown/taupe

Sorry to hear about the color.  So what color did you pick?  Sometime the color will grow on you, give it some times and you might feel different about it.

I will wait it out and see.  The paint is still drying.  I hope it becomes more of the brown/taupe color.

If I can vet paint colors, I can get paid to be a design consultant.  :P
