I got a speeding ticket this morning...

[quote author="SoCal78" date=1230956051]^ I thought the trick was to spot the guy you want, then rear-end him in your car. It forces communication. No? (Warning: this tactic does not apply to an officer.)</blockquote>

It should be avoided with pedestrians too.

[quote author="rtlguru" date=1230960276]To me, going to traffic school is worth cleaning your record just in case you get unlucky and caught again soon after.</blockquote>To me, I would apply the same logic for fighting the ticket first. I got my only speeding ticket about 15 years ago at a trap near a state line in the NE, and I successfully (and honestly) contested it with a nice letter to the court explaining that the vehicle in front of me prevented the line-of-sight necessary for a radar reading.

My uncle used to own a deli, so one of the higher ranking officers would give him his business card when he came in for food. Whenever my uncle got pulled over, he just pulled out that card and he was free to go. It was seriously a get out of jail free card.

This was in NY though, don't think it's as lenient here in California unfortunately.

Back east(NY, NY, CT), PBA cards are worth more than gold. Get rolled, flash your card and get a slap on the wrist.

ISM, if you haven't already payed for your ticket, PM, I'll be more than happy to help you beat your ticket.

and for those not in the know, PBA = Policemen's Benevolent Association. Basically, you pay to join the club and get to drink yourself silly at a very discounted rate. I recall $1.00 beers at the one I belonged to... There were also no known hours of operation and not open to the general public.

All the money went to families of officers killed in the line of duty.

This thread + both myself and my wife getting speeding tickets within 2 weeks + well known budget problems = there must be a directive to issue more speeding tickets to raise revenue. My wife was in tears yesterday because she missed my son's pick up from school because of the cop on 133 giving her a 75mph in 65mph (yes, 10 over) ticket. Apparently he was overly authoritarian with her and as a mother with a minivan full of kids she expected some sympathy. He must've been CHP (can they give tickets saying "Irvine Police" on them?), because in my encounters with the law I found them pretty professional and respectful (and one lady officer on a motorcycle was pretty hot too).

Two weeks ago my fiance got a for going 60mph on Trabuco where the speed limit is 50mph. The cars around him were going faster too he just got pulled over because his his car better fit the profile of a young driver. At least the Irvine PD was very nice to him once he saw he was a 30-something adult vs. a teenager.

My roommate got pulled over on the 405 fwy in Torrance going 80 mph.

Seriously, who drives 75 anymore? 75 mph'ers, merge right please.

Seems like they're trying to generate revenue by giving out more tickets...

It's true, my Friends wife works at a PD and She said officers had a directive a couple of months ago to raise more revenue by handing out tickets....

She doesn't work for IPD by the way..

Oh, plus the cops are picking on cyclists around Deerfield park where BCI start from...this is for rolling over stop signs etc which I admit is wrong but it saves clipping out and back in to the Pedals....

Is there any way I could get more information on this directive, like the date it was issued, etc? Is it public info, eg is there a California equivalent of the Freedom of Information act?

I had a friend who just got a ticket for expired tags. He was out the country for a couple of months and forgot to renew his registration before he left. He got pulled over on the second day he was back.

Yeah SW, just like I told you Penn St. would get rolled by SC in the Rose Bowl.

The Conquest continues my man.

Unfortunately, I don't have any control over the Nittany Lions defense, or lack of... But I can control my insurance rates from jumping up from being at the wrong place at the wrong time...but anyways, your point is?...

Point is you got that wrong and need to recognize.

When I posted that SC would spank Penn St.

You replied it wouldn?t happen.

Forgot about our exchange until I read your post.

No problem with you saving people money on insurance.

You should know better than to go against SC

We rule!

I will never root for the University of Spoiled Children, not even against, (Takes a deep breath) Texas... Ok fine, maybe a lil bit.

You all need to chill. There is no "directive" to hand out more tickets. Quotas are illegal, and we cops (contrary to popular belief) DON'T like to give out tickets.

<em>It?s true, my Friends wife works at a PD and She said officers had a directive a couple of months ago to raise more revenue by handing out tickets?.

What department is this Peter. I'll report them right away. It's illegal, and the officers and the officer's union knows it. I don't believe a word of it and I'm calling bullsh*t.

When someone gets a ticket for "70 in a 60", it usually means they were traveling at a much higher speed, but the officer was kind enough to "knock it down" to just 10 MPH over the limit so the ticket isn't so expensive. We won't pull someone over for going 10 mph over the limit. Guaranteed. So your 80 mph in a 60 zone, gets knocked down to "70 in a 60" zone, because you were polite.

Anyone need any more lessons?

HINT: If you are going to PM me for hints on how to get out of a traffic ticket, at least be respectful.
