I downloaded MyFitnessPal and punched in my specs. and it says my goal for the day is 1570 calories.  Isn't that a starvation goal?  :'(  Just from breakfast, it way over a third of my daily consumption.

If you're uncomfortable with 1,570 then set your goal date out a ways. Stretched over a longer period, you can up your calories but you'll still be losing weight. Calorie counters are great motivational tools especially for gradual changes that might not appear on the scale right away. Seeing it in black & white, you will see those deficits and know that it's coming.

So if you're successful, would you have to change your screenname to IrvineNotSoHusky?

Set your macros, and increase protein intake- the suggested macros aren't that great on MFP. I did a 40-30-30, and then 30-40-30. Also, know what makes you gain. Sweets are fine with me, never have to worry about a brownie or a bowl of icecream, but rice is my undoing. You will know what you are sensitive to once you start monitoring on MFP.

Coleman, those numbers are great!
Qwerty, I hear you on not eating till full. But when stressed I eat even when I am not hungry. Need to find something from Whole foods that tastes like cardboard and use it like a chew toy!

In-laws are visiting, and I am cooking Indian every day. So hard not to eat white rice once you see it :( A month more and then I will download MFP, dust off kettlebells and try insanity. Jillian Micheals is on Amazon prime.. haven't had a chance to work out with her videos yet. Bah! Last hike was more than a month ago.. body hurt climbing @ Peter's Canyon :-) More than weight, it's the energy level/ strength that take a hit with my bad diet.

Yes, it's easy to grab something to eat when you're stressed or bored.  Also for me, when I get very angry, which is easy to do with the kids around.  :P

We went to that hiking place in Newport Beach(?) and walked what was the "easy route" and almost died (the kids were fine).

I think I might join you all this time if you do the "fitness" challenge/challenged(?) again.  Just be sure to have a challenged category like our company does.  :P

I used to be a meat head lifting heavy weight all the time.  I had a bit more body fat but I was also much much wider and more muscular than I am now.

Therefore, it's not really praiseworthy.

Try chewing gum when that mood strikes. Your mouth will be too busy chewing to put any food in it. Extra Dessert Delights makes some delicious flavors that I swear taste just like the real thing - for ex: lemon meringue pie, foot beer float, mint chip icecream, etc.

Spaghetti squash. I tried it last night for a dinner. It's a bit of work, but tasted awesome! Good substitute for a grain. Anyone tried it? Costco is selling two-pack.

Must have done something different than us.  Made it like spaghetti after roasting, just did the usual, meatballs, sauce and subbed the squash for spaghetti.  It looked right, but that was about all.

Our 3yo literally threw it down.  Probably would be fine if we weren't expecting 'spaghetti' but we're expecting spaghetti and you get a squash that's just shaped liked spaghetti but doesn't share any of the other mouth characteristics of semolina based spaghetti.

We're tried the quinoa spaghetti, not right either.

Haven't bothered with the gluten free since I we don't have gluten issues, I see no reason to substitute more corn into our diets.

Expectations.. it's all about expectations :) I expected it to taste awful ;-)

Here is what I did: Cut the squash in half, brushed some olive oil, baked for 30 mins. When cool, scraped it out, added crushed peanut, olive oil, salt and lemon juice.

Our kid (7 yo) didn't eat it. She said she would rather eat quinoa and black rice. So there!
Brown rice and quinoa spaghetti is their favorite though. Both of them love it.
