And don't get me started about the speeders around the Woodbury Town Center parking area, either. You know, the ones that don't yield to pedestrians, the ones that like to rev their engines like they're off to the races, and the ones that just generally go above parking area speed limits.

And, the ones in that center who don't understand that not all four-way intersections leading out and in to the center are also four-way stop signs, but straights one way have a stop sign but not the other. I've almost been hit a few times there already.

Yeah! That is hilarious. I always enter from the Commons side of Woodbury Town Center. I want to go straight through that first intersection on my way to Panera or the Counter and people on the right and left always fail to realize that I have no stop sign. I am always aware, but I pretend like I am not and give those drivers a good scare. Its pretty funny.

culver shopping center coming in from the deerfield side by 711 ring a bell to anyone?

[quote author="gec518" date=1207712775] Sure, I rolled through, barely. Like I said, there wasn't another car, another person, animal, anything around.

but thats when a lot of accidents occur. if you assume that its ok to roll stops at 10 pm because no one is around, you might be surprised and unprepared in the rare instance the street isnt clear. i like evening walks but the number of times i've watched drivers roll through the stops right in front of me has made me extremely cautious. the intersection where groveland, townsend, and the town center meets seems to be the worst.

as for cops hiding, i think the idea behind it is to instill fear that they could be anywhere and everywhere at any time. i've been surprised several times by a motorcycle cop hiding behind the towers on long meadow. because of that i'm always more cognizant about a full stop there. i dont ever presume anymore just because i dont see the cop.

If you were at an intersection, and there's a tiny sign "no right turn on red" across the street blocked by a tree, I'd say it's fair for you to complain.

But we all know what a stop sign is, and that we're supposed to do a full stop before proceeding. We choose to break laws when we do California rolls or jaywalk. Trying to wiggle out of being responsible for our own actions, is like a kid breaking the TV and pointing to another playmate: "it's his fault!".

I didn't assume it was OK to roll, I looked left, right, straight, everywhere and nothing to be seen, except for the car parked with its lights off halfway down the road. The cop was so far down the road that she didn't pull me over until I was halfway into my apartment complex. Sure, if you follow the letter of the law to a T then guilty as charged. It just didn't seem necessary to me. Especially since I am actually over cautious. I too enjoy walking the neigborhood and try to practice as I preach. That's what burned me even more. When I see (and hear) all of the racers blazing through Woodbury, it just pisses me off that the cop couldn't have issued me a warning or something and saved the ticket for a blatent violator.

Interesting tidbit, today at lunch my buddy kinda "bumped" a cop car (well, it was more an SUV). Nothing intentional; as he was parking into the spot, he miscalculated how far their bumpers actually were from each other.

Must be encounter-a-cop day today for me.

Momopi, I agree. Which is why I don't look at my ticket with that sinking feeling--I rightly got what I deserved this morning.

[quote author="bltserv" date=1207706127]The Irvine PD never would use the public sidewalks in an effort to remain stealth.

Its just as bad over here at Quail Hill. This guy at least only was tagging the people

that made almost zero effort at the stop sign.

My Wife and I were on our way home after a Bike ride one Day last week when a Cop on a Motorbike overtook me, no big deal you say, well, it was really, he was riding on the Sidewalk!

He stopped at the intersection so I said to him "Well, I guess we'd better stop this time" as we stopped at the stop sign...

Luckily he laughed :-S

I've lived in Woodbury for almost 2 years now and since they've completed the Woodbury Town Center, I regularly see a motorcycle cop just chilling on my morning and evening commute. I always come to a full stop since I've lost count how many people I've seen busted but there's still people who completely run the signs and I've yet to see one of them get stopped.

I have to agree--they need to either make that intersection a 4 way stop or place a big sign that say cross traffic has right of way. There were many occasions where I almost hit other cars coming from Ralphs or Trader Joe. That's a liability issue for TIC.

bltserv--love the photo :-) Did you take that photo in Woodbury?

My husband told me there was a motorcycle cop parked on Townsend, just past Groveland. He said he didn't see him until he went through the intersection. Of course, I'm sure that is the idea. Fortunately, my husband made a full stop. By the way, this was at 6 o'dark this morning...

That was shot about a month ago behind Quail Hill Parkway about 5:00 PM on a weekday.

I sat and talked to him for a moment. At first he was not happy about getting his picture taken.

But he was nice enough. I watched him write 2 tickets in about 15 minutes. But he was letting plenty

of people California Stop no problem. Including me. The only people he wrote almost completely ignored

the stop sign.

I always think it is funny when people make up their own stop sign traveling from the woodbury community to the town center.

There is a motorcycle cop posted most days @3:30 at Warner/Santa Ynez in Westpark. He hides in the shade/shrubbery and nails unsuspecting motorists for some violation or another. It is a T intersection, so maybe there are more rolling stops because of no cross traffic.

I just noticed my "homeless newbie" status. I have lived in Woodbridge for 20 years, and paid off my townhome about 16 years ago....

I mean, cops do not hide in alleys waiting to catch thieves after they commit their crime. They are visible as to deter crime.

Wrong. It's called undercover work. You just don't see us....and that's the point ! :)

as for cops hiding, i think the idea behind it is to instill fear that they could be anywhere and everywhere at any time.

Correct. It's called "omnipresence".

bltserv - did you take the pic of the motorcycle cop right after you got the ticket ? If so, you are one brave soul.

Another spot to note, if you are ever visiting West Irvine -

Be warned of the corner of Asbury and Robinson.

The police have been in Woodbury since day one at the stop signs. A lot the New home agents found this out the hard way. I stop and wait for the front of the cars hood to pop up then proceed it actually annoys other drivers but too bad. What ticks me off is people who do not stop at red lights to take a right. Those are the people that i have seen get rearended.

Keep up the good work Irvine police.
