Good morning, happy people in the land of IHB! Punch here just wanting to vent (again). Guess who got pulled over for not really stopping at a stop sign? :-) It was on the corner of Townsend and Groveland, and while I normally know to watch out for 'em, I was absent-minded this morning and have therefore landed myself a moving violation.

Usually, that dude is on the corner of Townsend and Vintage, or lurking about on the corner of Long Meadow and Vintage, and that, too, usually is my route, but nooooooooo, I wanted to take the 133 this morning. Things happen for a reason, right? Haha. So today I find myself thankful for having an ex-boss who taught me how to not dwell on things like these and just chill. Something must be in those Aussie waters because nothing would faze him. Maybe I should chant or something.

So now, I must try my best to channel his coolness and not really think of the one weekend that I'll miss out on because Orange County doesn't like us violators taking online traffic school classes

Anybody else been initiated by our lovely Irvine PD? By the by, he was actually courteous. Heh.

Right, no rolling stops in Woodbury. It certainly makes sense with all the kids and new elementary school. I saw the IPD cuiser at Long Meadow & Vintage last week at dusk...parked with his lights off, behind another car, almost impossible to see...sneaky! I was glad to see him there, though.

I have done my fair share of traffic school... I received all my tickets in the OC, so I also could not do it online.

The best traffic school I found was the improv one. Actually not tooo bad, they have a commedian as your instructor so it is better than most, imo.

They also give you 2 free tickets to see the improv after you finish the class.

sorry to hear that, punch. the rolling stop ticket is a hard one to swallow. theres safe rolling stops and unsafe ones so the line has to be drawn somewhere -- just completely STOP. i've had my fair share of near accidents with drivers while taking walks around woodbury and i dont think i need to explain why almost getting run over pisses me off. so i'm glad about the cops there.

Just every once in a while I'd love to do a big old smokey burnout with a 1-2 and then a 2-3 rolling burnout.... Just DAMN the consquences! ha ha.. ok maybe not.

good luck and relax

Thanks, acpme. was totally wrong to not go to a full stop, so I knew I deserved the ticket (I still squeaked a "did I really just barely stop, officer?" though)...I walk around the area too and it bugs when I see the drivers at the intersections race with each other to the stop sign, stop past their line, and then try to beat the other driver out of being the first to cross the intersection.

All that said, it's still a bummer. I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment so I'm not looking forward to sitting through 8 hours of traffic school.

In the last 3 days, I have seen cops (2 on motorcycle, 1 in a patrol car) waiting at the stop signs in Woodbury.

Yeah you just gotta be careful around Woodbury. The motorcycles are usually posted up on sidewalks and sometimes they are just hard to spot. AM and PM seems to be the worst as they are continually pulling people over.

Overall, Woodbury is a ticket buffet for IPD.

What, there were no homeless people for the cops to pick up and then drop off in Santa Ana?

Yeah, I saw the cops @ the stop signs in Woodbury too. Both times I've ever been pulled over due to rolling stops. Now I stop, and wait a second, and subsequently piss off the lady on the cell phone in her BMW behind me.

On a related note, my hope that grows stronger with the increasing global warming drumbeat is that pressure will mount to convert most stop signs to yield signs to conserve vehicular energy. And control systems for lights will have to be coordinated across wider areas to do the same. The current municipal traffic planning philosophy has turned the art of impeding flow into a competitive sport, with the hopes that if one makes it difficult enough to drive through an area, the traffic will magically go somewhere else. When all municipalities do this, of course it keeps the traffic homogeneous and very inefficient.

Rant over.

After leaving Woodbury and heading to the 133/241 the fun doesn't stop there as you know. CHP loves the tollway :-)

The Irvine PD never would use the public sidewalks in an effort to remain stealth.

Its just as bad over here at Quail Hill. This guy at least only was tagging the people

that made almost zero effort at the stop sign.

I've had a rolling stop ticket at Yale and Meadowwood. I'd try to explain I got in the habit of rolling them because I have been rear ended 3 times because I stopped at a stop sign in Irvine (true story). He didn't buy it though :( Now I stop at all stop signs and always keep an eye on my rear view mirror.

Keep an eye out for the guy out on Irvine Blvd. (between Yale and Culver, going towards Culver) right across from Sierra Vista. I always see that guy out with a radar gun.

Just wondering, where is the nearest police station for Woodbury and/or Portola Springs? I know Portola Springs has a fire dept. but it seems like they are quite far if the police were needed in a hurry.

I think I've seen a couple of instances where they were on the sidewalk, too. And a couple when they had their radar guns out. The cop did tell me that they were getting a lot of complaints that drivers were rolling stoppers, but you're right, Seventhree, it really is a buffet.

IACRenter, I noticed that, too. I usually go to my folks' in Corona on weekends and see them there, just kinda sprinkled about.

24, not sure where they are either? I only know of the Civic Plaza location, and the substation that they have at the Spectrum.

Caught on Keystone and Regal. Worked a long full day, looked both ways, then got a ticket. I'm pretty sure they target the morning and afternoon commute. Be on high alert at those times in Woodbury.

Did my time. Now I know to watch out in certain areas of Irvine.

I think I was one of the first to get busted at a Woodbury stop sign a little less than a year ago. The cop told me they were responding to many complaints of speeders on Groveland and the danger with all the people wallking, biking, driving in Woodbury. I can attest to the speeders, I have a view of Groveland. I got nailed at Groveland and Townsend on a Friday night around 10. Not a soul in sight, other than the cop car hiding down Townsend. I thought the ticket was very pety. Sure, I rolled through, barely. Like I said, there wasn't another car, another person, animal, anything around. Now, if they had been hanging around during rush hour they could have nailed many other blatent violators that I see constantly drag racing between Townsend and Groveland. I mean, is it really necessary to floor it for the quarter mile or so between the stop sign and the light.

I went to check out a house in Cortile Woodbury area. On the way home, I actually saw a cop in a car pulling over another driver in Woodbury entrance from Jeffrey where the Woodbury towel is.

Be careful there folks.

Here's my gripe about this one. If the concern is to prevent people from rolling through stop signs and for the safety of "children". . .the cops should be visible not hidden! I mean, if I saw a cop parked anywhere near a stop sign, I would come to a full stop, make and eat a sandwich and then move on. If I see them enough time, I would have a tendency to stop properly. I may get ticked off at getting a ticket but will probably continue to do rolling stops 6 months later. I mean, cops do not hide in alleys waiting to catch thieves after they commit their crime. They are visible as to deter crime.

A ticket deters one person at a time (may a few more that saw the poor guy getting pulled over) but a visible officer would deter a high number of violaters.

Also, Woodbury has some slightly obstructed intersections that makes you have to roll through even after stopping.

[Thanks] IrvineCommuter

Actually, a white BMW sped past me as the cop was writing the ticket, 'course he was too busy writing to notice.

Another thing..I know that none of the vehicles I'm on the road with when I'm traversing those residential streets go at 25mph. I know that there aren't any postings for the limit, but if houses are around I thought it was understood to be 25? Kind of confused there. And don't get me started about the speeders around the Woodbury Town Center parking area, either. You know, the ones that don't yield to pedestrians, the ones that like to rev their engines like they're off to the races, and the ones that just generally go above parking area speed limits.
