I usually buy the hot dog buns for the kids at JJ... never thought about the bao... thanks ps9.
irvinehomeowner said:So because of PS9, we finally ate at Capital... 12:30 on a Sunday, parking was crowded but I was still able to get a spot on the 2nd floor.
Wait for 4 was only 20 minutes... forgot about the OpenTable thing.
The dim sum here is good. But... I only eat the safe ones, baked bbq pork buns and the bbq pork croissants (which the kids loved). All the other food is pretty pricey even at lunch time... the bill was close to $85 and we didn't order too much (in addition to the dim sum we also ordered a few plates of misc chinese food).
Does the place next to Capital in the District serve the same dim sum? Might be better if I get that to go.

I think it's funny they have older Chinese women pushing around the steam carts and they can't understand non-Chinese or non-Chinese can't understand them, but then they have non-Chinese carrying around the non-steamed dim sum trays and I'm sure the Chinese can't understand them and vice versa.

Yeah... but I'm a dim sum newb so I need to ask what is inside some of them (plus my kid has a shellfish allergy).ps9 said:irvinehomeowner said:So is it the 99 Ranch one that is different from DJ and Spectrum?

Just point, don't have time to talk with my mouth full of food
Oh yeah... that's right, I am mixing them both up.99 Ranch on Culver is Sam Woo and 99 Ranch on Walnut is SW. Both are not related to each other nor Capital Seafood I believe.

I think the SW on Walnut serves dim sum at night... does Sam Woo even serve dim sum?

Send the food back. Flag one of the guys in suits and they'll take it off the bill. Or call Homer and have him talk to the owner for you
If it ain't broken don't fix it..
These dim sum joints are the only place safe to send back food without risking getting "altered" food back.
Homer - tell your staff to stop serving cold dim sum!!
