Biden v. Palin

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
socalmd - fair enough! My point was really that not many people really know what Obama is about. We know what he has told us, not what we have seen him do. That is not because he is hiding anything, simply because he has not been on the scene long enough, as opposed to McCain or Biden.

Ventouxbob - reading books about him? PLEASE. Books are written for a reason, and I'm sure that you would dismiss one that criticized Obama. My point plays into the hero worship that is going on here and elsewhere.

Trust me, I will do more research. I am dismayed by his inability to articulate the details about platform. The fact that he has a great website means nothing - he has a campaign staff of 2500. I want to hear, FROM HIM, what his core values are and his plans for this economy.

Right now, he is a better choice than McCain. 25w100k is right on. Why is it that Republicans can admit when their guy is the wrong choice, while Dems just pile on in an orgy of group-think? Any of you have anything critical to say about Obama, or are you going to continue to assert that he is the Messiah?

I am one vote in a state where my vote doesn't register. But I take my vote VERY seriously. Hopefully most of you will as well.

-I'll say something critical. no problem I don't agree with his stance thay we need to keep people in their homes.

people ought to know what they can and cannot afford.

CM_Dude,

It is funny, because I feel about Repubs the way you feel about Dems. So many Repubs were big fans of GWB when he seemed to me such an obviously bad choice for Pres. He even won in 2004 after there was so much evidence he was awful. Many STILL think he is okay. Many Repubs will vote for McCain and Palin. How many really know much about them? Not any more than those voting for Obama. They buy the Maverick crap and the Hockey Mom crap. Most people make up their minds about who to vote for long before knowing anything about a candidate.

No, I think he was referring to stuff like this...

Things Taller taller than John McCain.

Another critical thought . capturing and or killing Osama Bin Laden wont do a goddamn thing to prevent muslim fundamentalist terrorists.

However Attacking Iraq made it worse.

it's so fricking complex. the causes are:

-poverty

-lack of work

-lack of education

-oppressive regimes (backed by USA BTW)

-Lack of a peacefull (israel & palastine)

-unchecked birthrates.

[quote author="CM_Dude" date=1223438413]What we Republicans and Independents are offended by is the lack of seriousness exemplified by gleefully pro-Obama posts. Yes, Palin was a terrible VP choice, and my gag reflex went into overdrive every time she winked - but NONE of you really know squat about Obama. My vote will be based on who has the best shot at fixing the mess we are in. I am a lifelong Republican, but I did vote for Clinton in 1992 because he was the better candidate. Smug, gleeful children who adhere to a party line regardless of candidate qualifications do nothing to promote their party, they simply piss off those who take this election seriously.

Right now, my vote is 50.0000000001% Obama. It was 50.0000000001% McCain prior to the debates. We know McCain, we do not know Obama. I hope that Obama is the next Clinton, but we have less than a month left to see what shakes loose.

Biden said that global warming is caused by man. That is terrifying, as the science is still out. Anyone wants to argue with me on that one, bring it on, you will just demonstrate your ignorance of science for all to see. Certainly, industrialization may play into current trends, but the timeframe is far too short to produce anything but a speculative hypothesis. This is science that has been hijacked by politics. Biden was wrong. Hopefully Obama is more rational. Biden also said that he hoped that troubled homeowners should have the PRINCIPAL balances on their loans reduced to a level that they can afford. That is an absolute non-starter, and something that I hope is clarified by Obama. Keeping people in homes they could never afford is an unconscionable abuse of governmental power at the expense of those who have behaved responsibly.

Biden kicked Palin's ass. Palin's ignorance regarding the Constitutional authority for the office she seeks is extremely troubling. That and her refusal to answer questions at the only debate she will be in are reason enough to disqaulify her.

But Obama is not necessarily our savior. The sycophantic worship of some here is silly at best.

Providing a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq is lunacy - a political stunt designed to appease liberals who don't have a clue about military reality. His economic plan is straight-out class warfare. His solution for everything is to throw money at it. Hopefully, he will realize that cannot work and will prove intelligent and savvy enough to take the path Clinton took.

We don't know enough about Obama, but we do know enough about McCain. He just doesn't get it regarding too many issues, it seems. He also refuses to release his medical records (melanoma can be fatal), so the Palin issue is no longer abstract.

The next month will be quite telling.

So, to Gotti, et al - have the maturity and patriotism to take a hard look at your man, and drop the gleeful BS. This is about the furture of our country, not about winning or losing. This isn't a game.</blockquote>

Mccain said global warming is caused by man also. Ok well technicaly it's cows doing a lot of the damage.

do some research on global warming ok. You are in a big minority on that one.

ventouxbob - actually, I am exposed to a LOT of real research on global warming, as GHG emissions are now a part of every major land use decision. Science is a process, and the jury is still far from in on the true "causes" of global warming. There are many non-anthropogenic causes of GHGs that contribute to the as yet ill-defined "warming" of our planet. Trends indicate that there is warming, but records have not been kept long enough to truly, definitively establish anything except the existence of, well, trends! Certainly, there are hundreds of scientists out there, including those associated with the IPCC, who have extrapolated terrible scenarios from the limited data available.

No offense, but this is far too complex a subject to assume the worst because it fits into a political or social agenda. Let the scientists figure it out.

As far as McCain goes? He's done. Tonight he dropped the bomb - federal money to readjust private mortgages down to the assessed value of homes, so home-debtors van now be proud new homeowners. F@ck you, fiscally responsible folks! All of us suckers who didn't buy at the peak with other people's money are now two-time losers! No way in hell I am voting for sell-out McCain.

If we're gonna be a socialist nation, we might as wll have an energetic dictator. All hail Presdient Obama.

-well the scientists have been wrong before. so many times.

I certainly think we should all use less gas. in the name of resource conservation.

yes, it could be just a change in the weather. I'm sure. Like the ice ages.

ventouxbob - certainly, use less gas and conserve resources. The irony is that many, many true conservatives want reduced energy demands and better fuel economy for national security reasons. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the first true conservationists, and a Republican. Of course, calling the the unholy cabal that is the Bush administration "Republicans" is like calling Stalin a humanist... Perhaps an Obama presidency will motivate the Republican party to clean house and get back to core values.

I agree, let the scientists figure it out. Meanwhile, lets not overreact and create poor public policy based on hypothesis and unsound science.

LOL this from a grown person with a southpark fetish</blockquote>

In skek's defense (not that he needs it):

I fail to see the problem with discussing politics with an adult who appreciates a television show that often utilizes political satire for comic effect.
