So is there basecamp coming to GP or not?

A few days ago, I saw the signs and graphics for the future Base Camp are still up around the vacant land near Ridge Valley Rd and Ducks Ice Rink. I believe the city is still reviewing the revised plan for Base Camp. The city mentioned their ongoing review in a recent report last month.

With the new Sports Park expansion at Great Park opening this summer and Duck Ice Rinks this Fall, IHO, I doubt GPN will allow all those future patrons go to nearby TIC commercial properties, or Denny?s and Jack in the Box off Sand Canyon.

Good news! The city recently posted an update about the Great Park?s Bosque, Upper Bee, remaining Sports Park phases, Cultural Terrace planning, Base Camp, Five Point Gateway (Broadcom campus) and homes.

The beginning of Summer 2018 is looking promising with these new Great Park features like the new trail at Upper Bee and Bosque to connect Irvine Blvd to the Great Park. It?s great to have more passive park space soon like the JOST.

?The Upper Bee and Bosque areas, including pedestrian and bike trails, landscaping, under street crossings, children?s playground and restrooms are under construction and expected to open within the next 90 days.

The second phase of the Sports Complex, including six additional synthetic turf soccer fields, is expected to open in spring 2018, based on estimates provided by FivePoint.
The remaining areas of the Sports Complex are under construction and expected to open during the first half of 2018. These elements include:

? Championship baseball and softball field
? Five softball fields
? Seven baseball fields
? Flexible use athletic fields
? Auxiliary restrooms and support buildings

FivePoint and City staff have collaborated to refine the conceptual plans for the Golf, Agriculture and Lower Bosque areas. In June 2017, the City Council approved a boundary modification adding 25 acres to the Great Park Improvement area. Since then, FivePoint has been working on a redesign of the golf course and re-evaluating trail plans. Staff is awaiting submission of new plans for the Lower Bosque area (adjacent to the Great Park entry) and the golf course.?

Base Camp News (Great Park - District 1 - South)

?The City received discretionary applications from FivePoint Communities to amend District 1-North and District 1- South (located directly south of District 1-North) to increase the number of dwelling units from 2,805 homes to 3,548 homes. Applications also include plans for non-residential development (i.e., retail, office, R&D) and a 150-room hotel. Staff is conducting its review of the project.?

Thanks for the info.
I guess it's taking some time, but I really hope it comes!

Which great park housing communities will be a short walk to base camp?

I believe Parasol Park residents will have the shortest walk to the heart of Base Camp. Cypress Village East residents will have a short walk too.

If GPN builds the conceptual vertical/mixed use - 600+ residential units at Base Camp then those future residents could be above all the action like the residential units at Americana in Glendale or Bay Street at Emeryville, CA.

What about the cemetery?  I want my cemetery at GP as well. Need to pay tribute to the brave men and woman after I eat my sandwich at the food hall.

You still don?t get it? After all these debates and signatures collections, it will be built where Fivepoints want it to be built.

Don't take Yellow Belly J1zz Fever seriously. He's been trolling GP ever since his parents bought him a TIC condo. Hopefully he grows up before his kids do.

Was doing a search to see if any news had been posted on the base camp topic but nothing new has come up in ages... is this still happening?

The city posted an update last month:

?South (Located south of Great Park Boulevard, north of Wolfpack, east of Ridge Valley and west of the Orange County Great Park): FivePoint is refining a discretionary application for 586 residential units, a 162-room hotel, and 506,270 square feet of non-residential development (i.e., retail, office, and R&D)?

Any idea what kind of housing these 586 units will be? Size and price range? I hope it's not those ultra high density $600k 1 bedroom units or affordable housing.

The city is considering Fivepoint?s revised plan for housing (about 1,000+ residential units), office, R&D and retail at Base Camp of almost 300,000 sq ft (note: Cypress Village Shopping or Albertsons /Kohl?s is almost 180,000 sq ft).

Note: initial proposal was for 586 residential units.

Great Park Blvd is the red line that runs across in between lots: 591, 943, 604, 605, 921.

Lot 323 is near the tennis courts, the one acre playground and where the empty green aircraft hanger sits.

Beacon and Bosque streets are the lines running north and south on the right hand side.

Ridge Valley Rd is the red line which runs north and south on the furthest left hand side.

Bulk of the retail is closer to the Sports Park (Lots 921 and 323 and TSF = thousand square feet).
