Wendy, in case you haven't heard, John McCain was held prisoner of war by the North Vietnamese for 5 1/2 years and underwent brutal torture. As a result of being suspended by his arms by ropes for a few years while his broken arms were healing from several breaks, he doesn't have full use of his shoulders. He is incapable of raising his arms above his head. In an article that I linked to in Forbes earlier in this thread (written in 2000), it mentions that he can't type because of the pain from holding his hands in that position.

McCain has a legitimate reason for not being able to type. What excuse does Obama have for not being able to use Google?</blockquote>

Yet McCain says: "They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don?t expect to be a great communicator, I don?t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need ? including going to my daughter?s blog first, before anything else." [McCain 2008]

<strong>Nowhere</strong> does he mention his physical disability as a reason - not even a hint.

That's what happens when you get your information from the NY Times. Exhaustive research I have done on the internet shows that not only do most articles NOT mention that John McCain has a physical disability, but most articles are on topics totally unrelated to John McCain! But here one of many references on the topic that Obama was unable to find through Google:

<a href="http://www.forbes.com/asap/2000/0529/053_print.html">article that mentions McCain's disability</a>

<em>

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.</em>

I like McCain. I wish he had won the nomination in 2000. I would have voted for him, and he would have been a much better president than Bush. He would have gone down in history as the incarnation of Teddy Roosevelt. Unfortunately, he missed his time in history. He is not the right man for the job today. When Franklin Roosevelt won in 1932, people were drawn to his upbeat and positive demeanor. People want a leader that is calm, collected and upbeat during difficult economic times. We turned to FDR in 1932 and Ronald Reagan in 1980 because they had that personality, and they represented a change from the party in power that was blamed for causing our problems. Obama has this personality and he is running in the same historical context. His landslide victory will probably be on par with both FDR's and Reagan's.

It's funny how the NYT still gets demonized by you even though I was quoting McCain's words on his Email aptitude in 2008 (in contrast to the Forbes article from 2000). From McCain's own words all I can gather is that in 2000 it was painful for him to type, yet in 2008 he was learning to get online by himself to browse for information and read his daughter's blog. If indeed he is so incapable to physically type on a keyboard, was he lying during that interview in 2008? Or is it the other way around? Was he lying in 2000 and trying to use his POW injuries as a reason that made him so disconnected from technology. Those two reasons don't seem to be compatible with each other.

Look up "Pessimistic Rumination" and how this helped predict presidential candidate victories in the past. It's actually amazing how much of an impact a positive tone/attitude can have. It also baffles me how the McCain camp is not aware of this effect and decided to play on anger and fear instead. If the McCain at the Al Smith Dinner had shown up at the debate, public perception would have been very different.

Again, exhaustive research shows that most articles on the internet have absolutely nothing to do with John McCain. There are even more articles that don't mention his physical disabilities.

But for the record, it's possible to set his daughter's blog as the home page in any browser. It's also possible to access any link via bookmarks or favorites or whatever a browser calls a saved link.

Of course you probably think that McCain got shot down in his fighter jet 40 years ago so he would have an excuse not to use a computer. But did the thought ever occur to you that it takes a higher level of cognitive skills to fly a plane than it does to type or use Outlook?

You still haven't addressed why Obama can't use Google.

That's just another place where we differ. As someone who lived most of his life in Arizona, I know John McCain very well. And though he is the far better choice for our country, he has several deep flaws. I can not in good conscience call myself a McCain supporter.

How many plane crashes was he involved in again? Maybe it isn't the cognitive skills to use Outlook that are important, but the cognitive skills to not crash a plane that are the problem.

That's an incredibly stupid statement. He was shot down by a missile over Hanoi. Would you like to retract that statement? Or do you stand on record as saying that serving your country is stupid?

Suggest looking at Fact Check on McCain and his flight history.

<a href="http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_mccain_crash_five_planes_did_he.html">http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_mccain_crash_five_planes_did_he.html</a>

Yes he even admits in his book to being responsible for a couple of the crashes.

In this day and age he would have been grounded long ago. But having Daddy as an Admiral

helped keep him in the air. Funny how Bush used that same tactic. Daddys Coattails.

Winex. Its time to face facts. The forthcoming election is LOST for McCain. He will go

back to being the angry little Senator from Arizona. Palin will go back to Alaska and

face her destiny in her state with a population thats half as much as Phoenix, Ariz.

Your arguments will be a moot point in 17 short Days. GO OBAMA.

It is truly appalling how you can conjure up something as ludicrous as me saying that serving your country is stupid from what I said. It is no wonder you have the ability to come up with the misinformation you do, you just make things up that are totally and completely out of context. And, you do it all the time.

Go check out the fact check link, and see how many planes McCain crashed. I whole heartily stand behind my statement.

And for the record: My family has been in America since 1631, and several family members of mine served in many different ways. It is on record that my family was involved with financially aiding the American rebels during the American revolution. My father served in Korea. My uncle served in Vietnam, and was involved in the 68 Tet offensive. I am very proud of all that served, well except the few distant relatives who fought for the south during the civil war.

For anyone to think I think serving this country is stupid from what I said, well... that is just beyond stupid.

It's better to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt. First of all, the FactCheck.org link can hardly be considered unbiased. Especially specially in this Presidential cycle. But even the biased source you are referring to states:

<strong>Did McCain crash five planes? Did he cause the 1967 Forrestal fire?

Is the information below true? I have heard that McCain crashed five planes. In searching the web I found this information. It was located at [DELETED]

Thank you for more information.

A:

No. Chain e-mails and Internet postings that make that claim are mistaken. </strong> It then goes on in an attempt to make something out of nothing.

It's quite obvious from your posts that you have numerous issues that impact your sense of self. I'm sure you would have us believe that had it been you flying John McCain's plane when it had it's right wing shot off by an anti-aircraft missile that you would have not only landed it safely with one wing, but that you could have brought it back to the United States from North Vietnam without refueling. Your attempts to build up your obviously fragile ego are equally amusing and pathetic.

You are truly amazing. You missed the point completely and you, once again, conjure up something that only you could possibly come up that is totally and completely out of context. It is impossible to have a discussion with someone whose only response is to divert the subject. You really should heed your own advice, because your foolish responses by changing the subject and attacking the poster shows how little you have to back up your points with any meaningful dialog.

McCain was involved in two plane crashes, one of which was when he was shot down. He was also involved in some arrogant daredevil flying, that cut the power for several homes in Spain.

I look forward to another fallacy that you will create from your distorted sense of reality. You certainly serve as a spin master against the Democrats, and anyone who doesn't agree with you. I just feel sorry for you that you actually believe your own spin. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

If that was an effigy of Obama, I bet it would somehow qualify as a "hate" crime. I'd also wager the house would have been torched by now. Yet...

<blockquote>

"I'm not defending this; I'm not criticizing it. It doesn't rise to the level of hate crime," said Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, who said he went out to the house himself to look at the display this morning.

...

Whitmore said that potential hate crimes are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If the same display had been made of a Barack Obama-like doll, for example, authorities would have to evaluate it independently, Whitmore said.

"That adds a whole other social, historical hate aspect to the display, and that is embedded in the consciousness of the country," he said, adding he's not sure whether it would be a hate crime. "It would be ill-advised of anybody to speculate on that."</blockquote>

I'm going to guess Mr. Whitmore doesn't remember the reason for the 19th amendment, Susan B. Anthony, or that women couldn't vote in California until 1911. Perhaps he is ignorant, perhaps he's secretly misogynistic, or perhaps he just needs enough people blowing up his official phone line (according to the LASD website it's (323)573-2387) to explain the amount of social and historical hate displayed against women in this country.

How about a woman in Redondo Beach (practically LA), a more accurate <a href="http://www.dailybreeze.com/ci_10856975">effigy</a> of Obama, hung by his tie with a chef's knife through his throat???
