2011: Year of the iPad 2!

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Dude.. IHO... I would totally look into the Flyer's Stylus option; really play around with that.  The short amount of time I was able to doodle around a few notepads and on the actual E-book; make notes, highlight and make the sucker up.  Watch the second video again, you can actually take notes while it records the background noise; so if you're in a lecture, your notes have the context of the actual lecture.  No other tablet has that function, that I know of...

I have the standard HTC Notepad Widget, well I had it, it was replaced by Evernote, but I could type up a simple note or doodle with my finger; but my phone is too small to doodle something substantial like directions or something...

Yes, I can see using the Flyer as my main work "notebook"; I have to admit, I still use an analog notebook everyday, to take down orders & notes; it's getting real heavy & tend to fall apart before the end of the pages...  The bar-code scanning option would probably come in real handy when looking up product codes & of course picture taking ability...

Yes... check out Asus' new Padfone... nice concept but... kinda of gimmicky... most smartphones these days are plenty big; not sure who will use this thing... from the advert maybe the stereotypical older Asian folks who wear thick eyeglasses...

Yes, with the Padfone, you will be like God, all knowing, all powerful!!!  Take a bite of the "apple" please...

LOL... the more I watch the advert, the more I'm cracking up...  get the Padfone, and you can pick up chicks, avoid work, watch a movie while you're suppose to be working, present some phony "work" stuff to some hotties, transport you to another dimension?

The PadFone is stupid to me.

What if I want to talk on the phone and use the tablet? I have to either use speaker phone or a BT headset. Some devices aren't meant to be combined... MP3+phone, okay... GPS+phone, okay... icicle gun+phone, maybe. That's why the Motorola Atrix is also a weird concept for me but it's better than combining with a tablet because you are adding functionality (ie physical keyboard input) whereas the tablet is just enlarging things.

It would have been better of the tablet could function with or without the phone, but from what I read, it doesn't which makes it less usable.

"seeks to bring together the strengths of both without completely duplicating the hardware."

No double monthly data package to pay for either. Pretty interesting.

For those who jailbreak or root... this is already the case*.

*Unless of course the tethering police catch you.

A bit of a off-topic... but just when I thought my desktop was just good for it's keyboard, and the HTC would be my main, PC... Google had to go and do this...
https://chrome.google.com/webstore?hl=en-US

I like where this is going...!  I see the vision... I can finally see a day where I would no longer interact with anything Microsoft anymore... just like McDonald's, it'll still exist, but you won't see me eating there... well only on certain occasions for the in-door Playground & um... hash browns...

saw the new Simple Touch Nook today... yes they are out early!  Very nice and... simple; the e-ink has no moving animation, but it is a touch screen unlike the 1st reader...  very quick, and easy to navigate...  this would be about the perfect size tablet for me...  no other devices quite like it!  As I type these words, I'm sure there are hordes of hackers working hard on rooting this little guy...!  Yes, can't wait to see Angry Birds on e-ink...

I don't think the e-ink readers are running Android... so no rooting... and I don't think the hackers care.

I finally got hold of a Transformer, better than the Iconia A500 because of the keyboard dock that turns it into a netbook. If you live in NY, you can get a 10.1 Galaxy Tab this week... bleh.

wrong...

Operating System Android 2.1 ?clair OS
Processor        800MHz TI OMAP3 Processor

sweet...  you got the Iconia from Costco.com?  Better return policy than BB?  So it looks like the Transformer backorder issues are getting cleared up...  I'll wait until they perfect the Chrome notebook before I buy another computer again...

Eventually Android & Chrome will become one...  that'll be the day... Microsoft is trying really hard with Windows 8 nice concept... but... Google has it covered...

Yes... I stand corrected... the Simple Touch reader does run Android... but I don't think it's worth rooting (and 2.1 is not very good).

I don't think most other e-ink readers run Android, the Kindle runs Linux.

The beauty of the TF, is you get an Android "notebook" too.

As predicted the hackers were hard at work throughout the night.. ladies & gents I present to
you angry birds...

they just found the web browser on the Simple Touch...

By Friday they'll find a way to make phone calls on the thing...!

I totally wish the e-ink screen refreshes faster, but oh well...

I totally agree with you Star... this device is for reading, not movie watching...  This would be great for emails, Google Books & Reader only...  maybe graphic novels or children's books...

The hacks keep on coming...!

That goes back to why I said e-ink readers are not worth hacking. Anyone who wants to consume moving images can't do it with e-ink. Go back and look at that video for Angry Birds... it's not even playable.

You should wait... Vizio is coming out with a $349 10" Honeycomb tablet soon and ViewSonic is releasing a 7" tablet with a front camera and stylus to attack the Nook Color and the HTC Flyer.

IHO.. what do you think of this..?

Dell prototype tablet with slide keys..

just rumors, the article says it will never come to market, what a shame, I could see a market for it.

Tried the Nook touch stock browser, it works but is very limited.  Useful if you need to check some news or stocks while reading.. the B&N clerk was so excited when I show him he cracked outloud and ran away to get the manager, really funny..

Really getting used to typing on touchscreen, but darn autocorrect still wants to change IHO to OHIO..

Saw the Dell... Asus and Sony (I think) also have tablets with a slide-out keyboard that are actually releasing soon. Asus' is different in that the display slides up at an angle to mimic a notebook formation.

Not too sure about Dell's split-key layout... but they have it right that is should only be on a 7" or smaller form factor.

The problem here is we're getting a flood of Android/webOS (the HP Touchpad will be out July 1) tablets and that's just going to confuse the consumer more. Options are good... but as I've explained to Lane on OCR... being able to walk into any store and find an accessory goes a long way towards convenience. There are at least 5 different custom cases for the iPad 2 (not counting the different colors of the Apple iCovers) and I can't find a single one for the Transformer at Best Buy. Heck... can't even find a TF at Best Buy. Their in-house tablets, the Xoom, Tab 7" and Iconia... only one case each (if that).

Do you see Targus, Kensington or Incase scrambling to make accessories for these Android tablets? Because just like a consumer... they don't know how well they are going to do.

Anyone see any parallels between Irvine homes? Heh.

I totally missed the Asus slider, thanks for showing me...

Having multiple devices, is what the "people" are asking for; and the people want Android...!  People want to make their devices, user interface, completely theirs and only theirs.  Sure the Iphone/pad works for a lot of people, but not everybody...

BTW...  You Angry Bird Fans...  check this out...!

P.S. BTW... the Tab 10incher just release their commercial... really funny, of the Ipad mock-up... & if you want to see what RC's cat looks like...

Correction... techies want to customize and tweak their gadgets.... the majority of consumers want it to just work... Apple is good at stuff like that.

There is a problem with that Tab commercial... no place to buy it like that for at least a week or more unless you live in NY (I wonder if there was a line and if it sold out).

Just flew to & from Florida over the weekend on Delta... never knew how much you can get done with WiFi in flight...

Just saw this news today...

http://www.texastechpulse.com/american_airlines_in_tablet_deal_with_samsung/s-0036277.html

Sweet... I will definitely be flying American on my next trip...!

BTW... The Irvine Flyaways - Big Blue Bus has WiFi from Irvine to LAX, and those drivers drive fast... trying to tailgate those suckers while trying to surf the internet signal is HARD...!

As if our daily routine with the kid & family wasn't hard enough; I had the bright idea to take the family to Temecula for a "vacation"...

But needless to say, the smartphone saved the day more than a few times... worked like a charm...  The kid still can't sit still for more than 5 minutes anywhere... finding kid friendly restaurant with booths and good reviews on Yelp or Google Place on the spot... didn't help much; but the - Rescue Heroes, Maisey Mouse reruns on YouTube certainly helped get the vegetables down...

Trying out the App... Poynt, helped get me to the nearest/cheapest gas stations...  Also great in helping me find the South Coast & Wilson Creek Winery events...

Again.. the best camera is the one that is on your person, which is NOT the Cannon point & shoot but the HTC...

Of course... I was glued to Google Maps, Navigation & Places...

Being a self-employed mobile worker for the past 9 years meant that I haven't had a decent vacation where I can turn off any cell phones or laptop... I even took client calls driving down Mount Haleakal? in Maui... so driving thru the vineyard was no different...  But answering emails was much easier with the HTC versus packing another luggage...

Keeping in touch remotely with the latest Android news on the go with Reader Widget...  Almost fell off my chair yesterday when I learned that I won't be getting my Gingerbread!!!http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-desire-wont-be-getting-official-gingerbread-update

But looks like HTC just found a way today...!http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-now-says-desire-will-get-gingerbread

It's one of those things... you just can't put to words... the smile on my face and I can't even really explain to the wife why I'm just happy...  To be home in our own beds tonight & looking forward to my coffee in the morning with some Gingerbread soon... ^_^

In other Android news...

Can't wait to get my hands on the Evo 3Dhttp://www.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-3d-review-roundup

& will be playing with the Sensation this week...http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-sensation-4g-now-available-t-mobile-stores
