[quote author="PANDA DREAMING OF IRVINE" date=1211789420]Wondering if anyone knows what percentage of the job market in Irvine is real estate related? 20%, 25%, 30%? 40% Is the Real Estate industry now as predominate as the aerospace industry was back in the early 90's? Thanks in advance.</blockquote>
Well, it is kinda hard to break down the numbers to the specific industries, however finance, insurance, RE sales and leasing, and construction account for 15% of the civilian labor force, whereas only 12% did in 2000.
Now, here is the rub, in 1999 the median household income was $72k, and in 2006 it should be almost 90k, instead it was just over $84k, which means people in Irvine were making less money in real dollar terms.
Another interesting find, is that in 2000 9% were self employed/not incorporated, but in 2006 only 6.7% were self employed/not incorporated. Funny, how the bulls will always cite that the EDD data didn't ask them and all there self-employed friends if they were employed. Maybe they will now, seeing as how there are less to chose from.
