Why I love Irvine

ELS,

You too have too much time on your hands!

But I love this.

Ritarobbers.

The other night, I was driving to Trader Joe's (Walnut and Culver) and saw a beat up Honda driving with a flat tire going flop, flop, flop, flop, with a buddy behind him (in an van) with his hazards on. I was waiting for them to pass to make a left into the parking lot and thought to myself... why don't you pull over and fix it, or just park the damn thing and have your buddy drive you somewhere to get it fixed,

Sure enough, by the time I left TJ's, 2 Irvine PD's had pulled over the cars, they didn't even make it to the stop sign on Walnut about 1000ft away from when I saw them..

Yeah - Irvine PD is on the job!

Someone in my neighborhood called-in seeing suspicous-looking people at the construction site down the street.

Irvine PD responded with at least a half dozen cars. All covert-like. It was really funny.

The Irvine PD reminds me of the police department in the Harold and Kumar goes to White Castle. . . .

For those who have not seen the movie (or just want to refresh their recollection), here is the clip:

Will you get this kind of response from Tustin police? Someone should do a test like this: let the two eighbours, one lives on the irvine side, one lives on tustin side both call in for a same issue, and sit back and wait to see which department shows up first with how many cars?

I think Irvine city and Irvine policy probably want to maintain their top three safest city title. I am sure if Irvine slips on the ranking next year, the police chef won't look too good. PRESSURE...

Janet, was this at the assisted living center on Walnut & Harvard? I saw two guys driving one of the Bobcats and they had accidentally crashed into the chain-link fence and were trying to put the fence back up. I made a yet-another WTF are they doing comments to myself and simply moved on. Why would two guys at night, with the lights on, Bobcat chugging away try and fix the chain link fence on a busy intersection of Walnut and Harvard?

Thanks IrvineCommuter.

That was a riot - you made my day!

A couple of months ago some fools had parked outside my apartment in a red zone at about 10pm on a Sunday night, and were bumping their bass for like 15 minutes while I was trying to get to sleep --- they got out to go inside a home but left their car parked in the red zone, so I decided to have a little fun and called the Irvine PD non-emergency line and told them if they wanted an easy ticket they would find a blue Acura outside my address... They thanked me, and I hung up and fell asleep. Next thing I knew I woke up to bright lights flashing through my bedroom.....Look out my window and there are TWO Irvine squad cars outside looking at every car parked within about a 500 yard radius with their spotlights! The Acura was gone, but I guess since they were here they decided to check every other car in the area to see what other offenses they could find. Hilarious. But I do love Irvine! Would not want it any other way.

I'm wondering is there's an Irvine PD charity one can contribute to? They are the greatest as far as I'm concerned, my first experience with them was when they escorted us through the ride of silence bike ride, the second time was when I called their no-emergancy # late one night to call about REALLY unruly Neighbors, I didn't want to bother them but they said it was OK and they'd had previous calls about the same people..they showed up 10 minutes later.

We had someone open a door on a Jeep and dig around inside. They took some doodads worth about $60. Irvine PD arrived in 10 minutes and was willing to have a crime scene tech try to lift some prints. We were shocked... We expected only to be told to come down and fill out a report on the following day.

Eff, we do the same thing in L.A....but it'll probably take 3 to 4 hours depending on the call load. Taking prints at BFMV scenes is pretty common now. If we get a good one, it can be fed into a national database and cross checked against others...just like on CSI. I've solved cases with prints from crime scenes...but it's not often we are able to lift usable ones, they are almost always partials or smudges.
