Whatever is going around, took me out for around 2 weeks, cough cough cough, bloody snots.  Highly contagious, got my kid and wife sick as well and I wash my hands OCD style.  Majority of my co-workers got "the cough" as well.  Went to Irvine Pediatrics 8-9am walk in twice in a week.  Total out of pocket cost for doctor/drugs = ~$200

Whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger

Sounds like a strain of H1N1. (jk)

I don't think it's the flu, I was still able to work (miserably).  Had the flu once and I was not able to work and in bed for bout 3 days.

that's doctor office copay, and drug copay total over 2 weeks.. generics $3.. had to pay for MIL as well since they got sick watching my sick child :(

I had the same thing. I took antibiotics and it went away. Did your doctor prescribe you antibiotics?

Probably viral, but i did the zpak thing.. probably only selected for resistant bacteria

i was taking airborne 3 times a day and zicam every 3 hours. not sure if they really helped though as the cold didnt really last longer than any of the other colds ive had.

This is the peak of the flu season. Most people don't need any medications other than rest and some tylenol. In general if your symptoms last longer than a week, then seek medical attention. Unfortunately antibiotics will do very little for the flu and common cold which are caused by viruses. Your best bet to avoid the flu is get vaccinated. It is not too late.

If you plan to get a prescription for Tamiflu for the flu be sure to seek medical attention within 48 hours of symptom onset. Unless you are in a high risk group (age < 2, age > 65, pregnant, or other medical conditions), there seems to be little benefit of the medication after 48 hours. Even if you start the medication on time, most studies have shown limited benefits ~24 hours shorter duration for a ~$120 retail medication.

Good luck out there and try to stay healthy this season.

Big Pharma?

Everyone I know got this cold/flu thing.

It's not like the H1N1 that puts you out for a while, but this one gives you a lingering cough.

And yes... antibiotics does not work on viral ailments. Usually those get prescribed if it caused other issues like a sinus or upper respiratory infection.

Kids and I got the flu shot, got sick immediately. Stomach flu again for kid 2 and me. Husband is giving sleepless nights with his cough.. been a week already. I am sick of sick people in the house, and yes, we are all OCD hand washing. Kid 1 has a cold since yesterday and wait for kid 2 to get that, and dad's cough.. UGH!

Ps9, I hear you on the copays..

My coworkers and I termed this cold "The Cough".  Pretty much everyone has gone thru it, but all at different times, suggesting an incubation time?  Usually a couple days before they turn.
