Where to live in Irvine?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I vaguely remember some kind of urban legend that said there is an entire tunnel system under UCI that was supposedly built to prevent rioters in the late '60s (or something like that).

not an urban legend... the tunnels are/were for operational use. it's not unusual for any type of large facility -- univ campuses, office complexes, theme parks, retail centers -- to have maintenance tunnels underground.

Interesting. I thought this was just an east coast Ivy League school thing...underground tunnels so students could get to class during snow blizzards etc.

[quote author="SoCal78" date=1246007646]Speaking of Columbus Grove.... this evening I just got back from my first in-person visit there. I was surprised to find... that I thought it was really charming. I actually found myself thinking that maybe I wouldn't mind a little TCE in my coffee if it meant living in one of those cute houses. The power lines... they weren't very adorable. But other than that, it was a lot nicer than what I had imagined and even better than photos I had seen online. (I tried to view Columbus Square too but got lost after turning west on Edinger. I ended up somewhere in Tustin Fields instead. I still don't know where Columbus Square is.)</blockquote>

You know, I have the same exact feeling. I don't mind some of the condos too much. They are really spacious, I remember walking thru an open house for one of those units about 6 months ago.

It was similar to this one: <a href="http://www.redfin.com/CA/Irvine/78-Fringe-Tree-92606/home/12253241">http://www.redfin.com/CA/Irvine/78-Fringe-Tree-92606/home/12253241</a>

In about a year, I think I would settle for something like that but preferably in the 550k range.

I love how they are looking to avoid mello roos yet expect their children to receive a quality free education, clean streets and parks, community centers, pools, etc.

[quote author="norcaljeff" date=1246078040]I love how every buyer is looking to avoid Mello Roos fees and yet each one of them voted for the stupid bonds.</blockquote>
I don't know about everyone else... but I alway avoid bond measures when they come up for voting.

I voted no on Proposition A (the Save Our Teachers homeowner tax) and was glad it was defeated. Irvinites yelled "Foul!" but were soon silenced when private companies stepped up and donated the money needed.

As far as I know CFDs are voted on by the landowners, therefore you or I don't get to vote on it, the builder/developer does.

[quote author="LoudRoar" date=1246100259]where did everyone go...?

anyone have a comment about my earlier comment? (who got a chance to read it)</blockquote>

why was it deleted?

[quote author="LoudRoar" date=1246102793]i deleted it out of paranoia... did you read it?

have any comment? its been all day and nothing...

i mean there were barely any posts at all in the irvine section today...what gives?</blockquote>

Yes, I read it. Some one has posted about the underground stuff before, I can't remember where. The fire claims are new though as far as I can remember. Paging Mr. conspiracy Theorist.. (you know who you are) What do you make of Loud Roar's claims?

well just so you know, the underground stuff cannot be proved really.

the fire stuff, 100% fact.</blockquote>

Why are you being so top secret?

For the fear of Donny Boy sending the TIC "muscle" to suppress the truth. haha

Ummm... do you mean the mineral rights below 500ft? Because, while I am totally down with the conspiracy theories, hardly anyone in OC has mineral rights below 500ft. The only place I know of is HB, and they are few and far between. You might find some in Brea or Placentia, but every other city you will not have mineral rights below 500ft. My house, not in Irvine, built over 30 years ago, does not have mineral rights below 500ft. If this were the case for an underground city, then Ladera Ranch has one too, because no one, not a single person there has mineral rights below 500ft. So... while there may be an underground system in Irvine, the whole not having mineral rights below 500ft doesn't mean squat other than that is perfectly normal for all or OC and pretty much all of California.

[quote author="acpme" date=1246107979]why'd you delete your posts? something about a domed city underground? tomb of the primes, perhaps?</blockquote>

I think he is trying to shed more light on the cause of the fire

All right, now you got my curiosity going. I missed the deleted posts since I was working all day. So what is the deal with this "Fire" and underground city conspiracy theories for Irvine? Inquiring minds want to know. You can PM me if you don't want to post it in the clear. ;-)
