Yeah, makes you think twice who you leave your kid with.

Absolutely.  I was at the toddler park the other day, and there was a babysitter there with a 2YO girl.  The babysitter sat down on the toddler picnic table, in the shade, and was glued to her phone for a good 15 minutes straight.  Meanwhile, the girl is running around toward the street, falling off stairs, etc.  Every time the girl tried to get the babysitter's attention, she responded with "callate!".

I snuck a peak at her phone...it was Candy Crush.

And no, qwerty, it wasn't yours. :)  But if that's what "cheap" gets me...I'll be damned before I try to save a few bucks at my child's expense.

When I was in Northpark I remember mid morning all the "nannies" would gather at the community park and have social time while the kids were running around (most of the time unattended since the nannies are so busy chatting with each other)

Nannies maybe "convenient" but this is why I'm a strong believer in highly regulated infant centers, preschools, montessoris. At least you know these places are regulated by DSS, there are multiple checks and balances in place and my child was active in learning, art and socialization with other children. half these "nannies" didn't even speak English and hardly communicated with the children.

That Santa Ana case is so sad....why is a toddler outside left unattended past 9pm anyway? Isn't that negligence? this is why I only trust the care of my most precious assets to ONLY the grandparents and a well known and time tested childcare facility.

Irvine has this huge marketing machine called THE IRVINE COMPANY.  haha  But seriously, the city is centrally located (Irvine has the most jobs of any city in Orange County), there's a UC school, master planned, an airport, lots of retail, very safe, etc....

Let's say Google wants an LA area office and an OC area office. What cities will they choose?

Well apparently they chose Santa Monica/Venice for the LA office and Irvine (airport area) for the OC office. Why? Probably because having offices in those areas offers a reasonable commute for 75+% of their potential employees in this area.

Plus apparently Irvine is the city that built all of the office towers :)

But ironically, The Irvine Company itself chooses Newport Beach over Irvine.

The article indicates, that it's the first time that lady babysitting. If you ask me, I would say she's negligible.

Previously I found a baby sitter on Craigslist. It turned out okay, but I won't do it again.
