Here are the reasons I love Irvine.

1) I love the fact that Irvine is only only a 15 minute drive away from laguana beach (the most beautiful beach in my opinion).

2) I love the fact that the weather in Irvine is perfect

3) I love the fact that Irvine is the melting pot of all ethnic backgrounds : white, chinese, korean, indian, flipinos, hispanics, vietnamese: we can all get along.

4) I love the fact that I can be proud of being an asian american in Irvine, without being discriminated.

5) I love the fact that Irvine provides a small entrepeneur with big dreams to become an enterprise.

6) I love the fact that Irvine is the next hot bed for Tech Startups ( Silicon Valley of Southern California )

7) I love that fact that HMART ( my favorite Korean Super Market ) is moving in as the anchor for the Jamboree Shopping Center in summer of 2008.

8) I love the fact that John Wayne airport is so close by since i travel a lot for business.

9) I love the fact that Irvine is right in the middle of LA and San Diego.

10) And most importantly, I love IRVINE Real Estate, and I also love this Blog!

Question to All of YOU.

I was wondering for some of the locals, why they decided to make Irvine their home. Also for the transplants coming from different states, what were the factors that made you guys move here. In my opinion... Irvine is the best place to live in this country.....

Happy Panda

Disclaimer: I do not work for the Irvine Company and I am not a Troll... I just happen to love Irvine, and hope to be there soon.

Why Irvine? Beats living in LA County or someplace like Anaheim or Santa Ana. The only factor for being here is work. When it's time for retirement, I'm outta here. Thank God.

Hey that is not fair I got them all and they are all here!

Panda, Suk Kee Kang is looking for you to be his campaign manager!!

Nice to hear about your positive attitude. You are the happiest Panda outside of the San Diego Zoo!!

"I have been seeing so many ?Panda Newbies? lately. Good thing that there is no population control like the children in China."

bkshopr,

I am the original Panda, all the other Panda Newbies on this blog are my children.

Irvine's a great urban area for boomer retirees, lots of things to do in a safe urban setting close to authentic ethnic enclaves and upscale places.

Pandamonium is happening now!!

Panda, you have given us many reasons for loving Irvine. May I ask you for one more reason? Why do you dislike Mexicans? Did you have a bad experience?

This is how you know he/she has not yet arrived in Irvine. Panda fails to note that - like it or not - there are plenty of Mexicans in Irvine. While they can be your gardener, your housekeeper, or your nanny, apparently it's not ok for Mexicans to be your neighbor (even if they might be Art Moreno or his financial equal). I guess God, in His infinite wisdom, did not create Mexicans, so it's ok to not want to be around them. With that attitude, I could do without Panda.

Eva, Please don't take it the wrong way. I like to make ethnic jokes, it is my personality, and I can see how some people like yourself this forum can be offended. I am not racist, how can i be..? I am a minority myself? I even make racial jokes about my own kind.

The truth is i just added "Irvinehousingblog's" line to mine as i thought it was funny. I never mentioned anything about mexicans in my original post.

In fact, I like mexicans just like any other race, and Yes, God did create mexicans and he loves them too.

And, to add to this point... my neighbor is Mexican. He has a nice ocean view property in Baja, a home in my hood (the low lands of VP), several cash flow positive rental properties, a business owner, and two sons that go to CSUF (not because it was cheap, they chose to go there). He is very cool, and has invited me to his ocean view property with his family. I take care of his house when he is gone, and he does the same. I can talk to him about the reality of the housing market. My Asian neighbors, well not so much. While I enjoy my privacy, and it is respected by all, but I am glad that the Mexican has my back and I have his. What neighbor would you like to have?

Oh, and before anyone gets offended, this post was approved by my Korean best friend, and the fact that I am from the Spanish Villa Lobos family. I will stop here, ignorance is bliss.

Wow,

This information is suprising. I knew that Chinese and Whites were the two biggest ethnic groups in Irvine, but definitely thought Koreans were the third largest group, however the hispanics are. I guess there are a lot less koreans living in Irvine than I thought. Clearly, the whites are still the majority in Irvine.

There's a lot of truth in graph's posts. A while back 2000-2002, half of my neighbors were caucasian or european. as they upgraded and sold their homes more and more asians have moved in. You'll notice that the neighborhood, for better or for worse, gets quieter, no one is outside in front of their houses. My asians neighbors don't spend their time in the front yard, or washing their car, or playing with the kids in the street. When I take my girls to ride their bikes/trikes in our cul de sac, there's not a single soul around. There used to kids playing outside, catching ball, but no more. I guess my asian neighbors are too busy inside to socialize.

Not saying it's good or bad, as some might even prefer this. However, the sense of a "community" can very different.

God also created the fallen angels, is it ok to not want to be around them?

That explains it. I wondered how I had missed that comment earlier in the day. Race and ethnicity are well worn topics around here. I'll shoot you a PM today or tomorrow to bring you up to speed.

I have heard from African American friends that Irvine is not friendly to African Americans.

And speaking of Mexican and Korean, I am Mexican and I used to have a Korean girlfriend who lived in Irvine with her mother. Her mother would refer to me as "that dirty Mexican".

Well, you know that saying that success is the sweetest revenge? Her mother wanted grandchildren in the worst way. I now have three daughters who are drop dead gorgeous and smart. I wonder if she ever got her grandchildren.

Several years ago my street used to be 30% Asian. Most of them have moved to Crystal Cove and Newport Coast. Now my street is 50% Persian. There is, however, one hispanic on my street. He's from Madrid and is only here on a work contract for two years.

He's from Madrid? Hmm. Not exactly what one would consider "Hispanic" by contemporary notions.

I also have to comment on something that Panda said earlier, something about being a minority, so how could he be racist... that kind of logic really bothers people like me. Having a majority or minority status has nothing to do with ones ability to be a bigot, a racist, or just plain ignorant. I suspect however, that Panda didn't mean to be malicious or insensitive.

What do I love about Irvine? My name says it all. What do I regret about Irvine? Over-development. Add too many people to anything, and it goes to shit.

Yep, I somewhat know the feeling. You know what they always say, the best revenge is being happy.
