US Appliance (for all appliance purchases)

So I was tooling around various websites looking to buy a refrigerator and washer/dyer for my dad's house in Vegas.  I obviously checked out HD, Lowes, Sears, etc.  Then I stumbled upon US Appliance (www.us-appliance.com)  Their prices were 10-15% less than any other retailer and the best part is that they don't charge sales tax (delivery out of Michigan) and they have free delivery if your invoice is over $999.  The small downside is from the time you order to the time you get your appliances will be about 1.5-2 weeks.  Hell they even sell TVs and some other electronic devices.

Seems hit or miss.  Either a "1" or a "5".  But, in defense of US Appliance, so do most appliance retailers.  If everything goes perfect, then you scored.  If not, seems like a hassle for customer service issues.
I placed my order on Sunday and got an email with the receipt/invoice earlier today letting me know that the refrigerator is going out tomorrow and I should get it in 5-7 business days from then.  I also picked up their 2-year extended warranty for the refrigerator since it was only $99.  I did find a coupon code online from retailmenot.com that saved me another $75 on the purchase.  It's a hit or miss with any of the retailers that I checked out.  If the price was closer I would have gone with one of the local big boys, but not when the difference was $500+ ($300+ plus sales tax).

Btw, that 7.5/10 rating doesn't look too bad.  I guess we'll see how it goes.

As a CPA you should know that you still owe your use tax even if the retailer doesn't collect sales tax.  >:D
The appliances are going to Nevada and I live in California so it's all too confusing.  I'll just let the retailers sort it out.  ;)

So I didn't buy from them because...

Lowes will generally match online prices.

Lowes includes free ship and white glove installation.

I guess I'll find out soon enough if I'm one of the 1 star customer rating or the 5 star customer rating.  haha

When we were looking at appliances during our remodel, we also considered AJ Madison. However, we opted to go w/ Lowes because of the free delivery and install, as well as the haulaway of our old appliances, which companies like US Appliance does not provide (to the best of my knowledge). In addition, I believe that Lowes had a sale, and we had one of those 10% coupons; with that, we found that the prices (even after tax) weren't that much higher than the online retailers.

However, I suppose if you're handy enough, you can handle it yourself.

So just to reiterate.. they match most online prices (there are a few they will not touch).  My refrigerator went from $3099 to $2300 because the sales associate stumbled upon a price that was better than the ad I brought in.

Right - now that I think of it, I believe that's what may have happened - there was a sale, which got us looking at Lowes, then they agreed to pricematch AND honor the 10% coupon. I'm guessing that's YMMV, since most places won't PM and honor a coupon, but I'm not complaining!

Ok, the appliances left their warehouse with the freight company and they emailed me the tracking number.  Estimate for delivery is 5 business days.  I didn't know that Lowe's price matches online retailers.  I guess in the future I'll him them a try, especially if I can hook up the 10% off coupon with the price match.  My dad is very handy so can hook the appliances up and there's no haul away because the house didn't come with a refrigerator and washer/dryer.

I bought all of my appliances online since the price was substantially lower with online retailers from the east coast.
Free delivery, no tax, coupons and the same rebates as with local retailers.
All of my appliances came directly from the manufacturer.  My microwave/fan combo came in damaged and manufacturer sent us replacement in no time with free installation as an apology.  All in all we saved about 40% from retail price including tax savings.
Highly recommended.

So they finally delivered the appliances on Friday.  Everything was in perfect condition and working order.  The truck driver helped my dad bring the appliances into the house (my dad tipped him $40 for his help).  Overall, a good experience with the slight negative being the time it took (almost 3 weeks).  4+ stars.

I echo these sentiments. We got absolute bargains through Lowe's after finding deals online, Lowe's then price matched and then beat those prices by 10%, which negated those sites which saved sales tax. Better yet, next day (if not same day delivery, depending on the circumstances) and a local place to go if I ran into any troubles. Highly highly recommend Lowes. They seem to be one of the few retailers with significant wiggle room to negotiate on appliances too.
